I stopped at this Pei Wei while waiting for a friend to finish up at a doctor's appointment nearby. I came in at that weird not-lunch, not-dinner time, so there was just one couple in the dining area when I arrived. I was quickly greeted by a friendly cashier who took my order and gave me a drink cup. I ordered the honey-seared chicken with a side of potstickers. I have been to Pei Wei Asian Kitchen locations elsewhere in Phoenix and in other cities, and as I live rather close to this location, my father and I decided to give it a try today. The food was good though there was a mixup with our order, and the staff were fine, but it was a bit confusing to eat there. I would give it a try again, but I would likely temper my expectations the next time. When we walked in, we saw a rather small area with a few tables and chairs. There was one employee behind the front counter (and we later saw another two in the kitchen). We placed an order for a lunch dish of honey seared chicken (crispy chicken tossed in Pei Wei's signature honey garlic sauce, served over crispy rice sticks and topped with red bell peppers and scallions) and an lunch dish of Mongolian chicken (steamed white meat chicken with garlic, scallions, and mushrooms, tossed in a rich and sweet soy sauce). I left off the mushrooms for the Mongolian chicken. I found the Mongolian chicken to be delicious though I had to figure out where the soy sauce was for the white rice (and there were none in the customer area and no one to help us for a while behind the counter). My father's honey seared chicken dish turned out to be very hot and spicy, which we assumed meant they accidentally gave him the hot honey chicken (crispy chicken tossed with spicy habaneros in Pei Wei's signature honey garlic sauce and topped with scallions). Unfortunately, we didn't realize that until after he ate it. Needless to say, he probably won't join me again to Pei Wei. We also noticed there were no trash cans anywhere inside, and my father isn't used to a restaurant where you order at a counter where you just left your dishes at the table to be cleared. We finally asked someone who confirmed that is how it works at this Pei Wei location. Confusing, but it makes sense. It just isn't common sense to everyone. This location is open daily from 11 AM to 9 PM. Not everyone knows this but Pei Wei was actually a fast-casual spin-off of the sit-down restaurant P. F. Chang's China Bistro, which became its own company in 2017, when its headquarters left Scottsdale for Texas. Came in for lunch after being out of town for a month and we had a great time. Past couple times I had come in the place seemed a bit, out of touch with its customers. Whatever has changed, and the people here, are doing great. My food, the Mongolian steak and the Thai coconut curry, were quick to come out and man were they generous portions. The manager there was very nice and even brought us some chocolate covered fortune cookies. I didn't know Peiwei had these ! After being told they were free and a good way to have a sweet desert after my meal it really put me and my wife in a great mood post lunch. I arrived at Pei Wei eight minutes after they were supposed to open. The door was still locked. I could see the cooks in the kitchen, but no one would open the door. I stood outside an extra five minutes and waited until they finally opened the door. They were waiting for the person that ran the cash register to come in. He was on the side of the building getting high. Once I finally tried to place my order, he told me I needed to order through the app. I am completely frustrated. I don't even know if the food is going to be good or if I trust it. This employee really needs to get it together. read more

Newly opened in this area and quite busy during the dinner time rush. They have a few vegan options with their fried tofu. Check the ingredients but so far the firecracker sauce is a safe option and you can add additional vegetables to make it lush. The pan Asian options are endless and dishes start as low as $10.99 but can increase based on the extras you add. We were super excited to see Pei Wei in our neighborhood. Today we gave it a try and did it disappoint. Everyone there was waiting. There was about 5 people. It took almost 20 minutes to get an entree and two spring rolls and two crab ragoons. Got home and it was completely disappointing. The spicy Korean beef had no flavor and little spice. The spring rolls were cold and the ragoons had almost no cream cheese and were very fishy tasting. After a little research realized they are no longer owned by PF Changs and it is obvious. Very fast foody unlike some of the other, older Pei Weis. Sadly, we won't be going back. read more
