So my girlfriend and I ordered Pei Wei with a nice BOGO coupon, and I got the "Thai Coconut Curry Chicken", which I actually quite liked, but upon ordering there another night without the coupon we were surprised at how expensive it was for such a simple meal. I got the "Mongolian Steak" my second time, which ended up not being my thing, because the sauce was too sweet (I prefer savory meals). I do appreciate that they have a handful of bowls that are gluten-free, and that it's at least a sizable portion, but for what is essentially a bowl of rice, a handful of sliced meat, and a sprinkle of vegetables it's too expensive. read more

We walked into a clean, moderately busy place, I have not been here in years. Smiling and helpful server, ordered up lettuce wraps and crab wontons, some edamame as well, yep Dr Pepper and my lady enjoyed some water with lemon. Nope forgot pictures! First time back in a long time. My gentleman and I decided to stop in for lunch and boy was that a good decision! It wasn't super busy yet and the line went pretty quickly. Man where did all the time go?? This used to be the best place to eat at. Great portions. Tons of sauce & Flavor & now it's a shell of its former self. Over the past few years I've always ordered the same thing sesame Chicken no vegetables & Noodles. And as time wears on the chicken has less sauce. The flavor is different almost every time. 70% of the time my customizations are completely ignored. & this last time I didn't even have enough chicken to fill the stomach of a 2 year old. This was the worst experience we have ever had at a Pei Wei. We have been to many different Pei Wei locations and we have all been quite satisfied with dishes we ordered in the past. We ordered a Chicken Lettuce Wrap, Chicken Honey Seared Rice Bowl, and Chicken Chopped Salad. The only dish that came out decent was the Chicken Lettuce Wrap and it's not even a main dish! Chicken Lettuce Wrap: The chicken was salty, way over seasoned. So much so, you don't even need that sauce. But the flavor is nice and Lettuce is nice and crisp. Honey Seared Chicken Rice Bowl: This was literately just 8 pieces of chicken nuggets on a bed of rice. There were no other vegetables or even a garnish? I've gotten better "Orange Chicken" at a hole-in-a-wall Chinese restaurant than this. Disappointing. Chicken Chopped Salad: I'm not sure why this is even here. But at least just make it taste good. This was terrible. I know Pei Wei change up the menu to keep things interesting and fun. Using fresh ingredients and fun fusion recipes is always their core focus. This pandemic is really putting a dent in my culinary experiences. How many bologna sandwiches can you eat? I still haven't gone inside a restaurant, but I have slowly opened my bubble to take out and curbside. So, today's big adventure was here, at Pei Wei. I have been here a couple of dozen times and usually order one of two things, so I am very familiar with what is what. I had lettuce wraps and the Mongolian beef, a favorite (for the record, honey shrimp is the other). Couldn't wait for the five-minute trip to get it home and rip into it while it was still piping hot. And that's when everything went pear-shaped. (What does that even mean?) Back to the story: Lettuce wraps were delicious. Hot and juicy, with perfectly chilled lettuce cups. The sauce was ice cold which was a little jarring over the hot chicken, but I can deal. A couple wraps in, and I was ready to dig into my Mongolian Beef. Wa wa. It was cold. Like an inedible cold. OK, I own a microwave so I gave it a 90-second zap. Better. Much. Except the meat was dry and tough. Chewy, even. The sauce was good -- nice and tangy. It's Pei Wei for goodness sakes. There is an inherent expectation of quality. Apparently this location did not get the memo. In a neighborhood where you can barely swing a dead car without hitting a restaurant, I won't be back. Sorry, Pei Wei, you lose. read more

I was very glad to see Pei Wei open inside dining after the pandemic. I probably missed them the most of all the restaurants. Todays visit was our first time to eat inside in a fairly long time-we have ordered take out numerous times. The inside was immaculate. Ordering was quick and easy. Staff was friendly. We got our food quickly and it was steaming when we got it and still after several minutes. Husband got the Spicy Korean BBQ. Portion was very generous. He enjoyed it and brought plenty home. I tried it and it was good, but too spicy for me to eat a whole meal. I ordered the Teriyaki Beef/Steak. I have always love love loved their Teriyaki bowls. This meal was far from being teriyaki. I had to ask an employee when they came by my table what it was. He confirmed it was teriyaki. The beef was very tender although a bit chewy. It looked like it was lightly breaded and lightly fried then coated in a sauce. The sauce was icky. Definitely not teriyaki. Description of the chicken teriyaki says tossed in a 'sweet soy sauce glaze'. This was more likely drowned by a thick, sweet caramel sauce. No soy sauce tasting whatsoever. Added to the very moist tender beef, it was like eating soft mush. I don't think it was cooked incorrectly. I think this is probably the way they make it now, but maybe too much sauce in bowl. But definitely too sweet and too soft and mushy-like. I wish they would go back to the old way of making the teriyaki bowls. Crisp meat, light sauce, lots of flavor. I almost never get a meal I cannot bring myself to eat. This was one. I will not be the one to eat the leftovers. I know restaurants are suffering due to Covid and lack of staff. This was not the issue. The issue is the icky sauce & revised menu. If you are going to leave out the flavor, why not leave out some calories too. Again, PLEASE bring back the original teriyaki. If not, take the name teriyaki off the description. Will give them another try to see if the chicken teriyaki will be better than the beef, but not gonna hold my breath. read more
