I only review nachos…read more Lucille's BBQ looked like it had everything going for it. Massive plate. Wall to wall cheese. Pulled BBQ chicken. Jalapeños with actual heat. Friendly attentive staff. This plate arrived looking like it meant business. Then my old nemesis arrived. The Tin Star. The metal tin this plate arrived on is a nacho heat assassin. By mid-plate the cheese had gone from melted to molten slag. By the end it was frozen solid. The Tin Star doesn't care about your $16. The Tin Star has only physics. Now the taste. BLAND. Here's what makes this especially frustrating. This is a BBQ restaurant. They had the rub. They had the drizzle. They used neither. The nachos tasted like someone forgot where they came from and what they were making. A light dusting of rub and a BBQ drizzle and this plate is a completely different conversation. The "pulled" chicken was way too large for a nacho chip. Not prepared for nacho eatability, more like someone thought kids tenders would be good on nachos. The chips were store bought, over-salted, and failed under pressure they barely deserved. The chicken wouldn't even lay on the chip, it kept rolling off. The Black Olive Gang showed up uninvited and refused to leave. They are outlawed in Nacho Nation effective immediately. The jalapeños were the only thing that showed up ready to work. they were plentiful and with real heat. Such a unique flavor combination, and it was very good. You get plenty of pistachio flavor and actual pistachio pieces, and it pairs perfectly with the chocolate. So now their Boca Raton location on Glades has a neighbor here in Delray. I have to admit, I've drifted away a bit from fast-food-style places over the years and would generally rather sit down at a full-service restaurant if I'm craving a burger. That said, the Double ShackBurger I had tonight was really tasty. Loved that it arrived piping hot with lettuce, tomato, and onion. They also do a nice job offering different burger combinations and styles, and their website does an excellent job laying everything out. After recently trying the Chicken Shack Sandwich at their LaGuardia Airport location, that may actually be my current "go to" order at The Shack. The store officially opens tomorrow, May 6th. The sandwich was in a word outstanding served with a sude of the best potato salad, you will ever taste as well as complementary pickles, like the deli of old would do and even some delicious extra bread. I just loved it and I had to bring my wife back for a second visit. This visit was even better than the first. I got an over stuffed two meat sandwich of pastrami and corn beef. It was absolutely wonderful. Same excellent service. There is so much on the menu. I want to try that I will be stopping there pretty much every time I pass by.
