In January 2024, I had my first broken bone due to a skiing accident. Having a broken tibia meant I…read morewas in a full-leg cast for about six weeks. After those six weeks, I was moved to a short-leg cast, and was referred to physical therapy to start range-of-motion (ROM) exercises. Never having been to PT, I did not know what to expect, but I saw this Athletico was close by, so I decided to try it out. I submitted a request for an appointment through their website, and received a call that same day from Elise. Elise was extremely helpful and ensured I got on their schedule right away. I started PT about two days per week, starting with ROM exercises, then moving on to weight-bearing, then running/jumping. All-in-all, since I did not have surgery, my recovery was much longer, but we got through everything starting in February, and I was discharged in October. I can't say enough great things about this Athletico location. I came in completely nervous about this experience, but Ryan and Mitch were able to calm my nerves immediately and they helped me along every step of this tough journey. Being in PT for eight months, you start to build a relationship with those helping you out, and that's extremely true when it comes to this Atheltico location - all the staff, from my physical therapist, Mitch, to the few sessions I attended with Ryan, along with the amazing assistants - Maggie, Olivia, and Maria who helped me along the way - I always felt like friends with all of them while I was here. While they maintain professionalism, they also ensure to treat you not just as a patient, but as a friend, and it's clear that they truly care and want to see you progress in the journey. While nobody really "enjoys" going to PT, I'd say the treatment, services, and staff at this location made me truly enjoy being there and working towards my goals of being back to 100%. From someone who came in on crutches and a knee scooter, doing exercises like moving my foot back-and-forth or picking up marbles with my toes, I'm now running, jumping, playing tennis again, biking, etc. I was even able to take a full walking tour through Italian villages and cities with no problem thanks to this amazing staff at Athletico. While I'm hoping I never have to come back in here (as I'm never trying skiing again), if I do have PT needs or know anyone who does, I will always recommend Athletico Lakeview East. They employ all the latest techniques and take a thoughtful approach to each patient's treatment. Critically, they truly care about their patients and go above and beyond to help them get back to doing the things they want do. The ubiquity of providers may suggest that PT is something of a commodity service, but in my experience, therapy is actually a significantly more personalized form of care than required from my (also excellent) orthopedist when treating my lower leg fracture. Enter Rachel Ballantine. and her colleagues at Lakeview West Athletico for my rehabilitation. Rachel spent significant time at intake understanding the nuances of my pain and remaining physical limitations, consistently identified highly specific muscle groups and mobility challenges far better than I could ever articulate to her, and then tested and retested my progress to develop carefully customized, advanced, engaging, and varied bi-weekly sessions. What at times felt like a sixth sense was in fact the work of an incredibly talented professional who successfully rehabbed my strength, flexibility, and tolerance for impact after 10 weeks completely non-weightbearing. In addition to Rachel's immense skill, she connects with patients on a personal level extremely effectively - something I observed from the whole team working with a wide cross-section of patients from athletes to the elderly. I never felt patronized when awkwardly trying a new therapy and nothing was ever too obvious or irrelevant to vocalize - even though I'm sure I offered plenty of both. The entire vibe of the facility had both a seriousness of purpose but also a certain easiness I think born equally from the trust patients had in their therapist and the well-earned confidence the therapists have in their ability to make an impact. That easy manner extends to the convenience of the entire experience that the staff provides (especially Dom) - no trouble getting many rounds of visits covered by insurance, easy/flexible scheduling (or rescheduling as needed), and an online portal FAR better than "MyChart" et al from a hospital system with extremely clear instructions/videos for home exercises and account management.
