This review is on the cooking classes offered at Sur La Table. We decided to take the Lunar New…read moreYears cooking class to learn how to make soup dumplings. The cooking place was pretty cool. There was flavored water to sip on while we waited for the class to start. The whole cooking experience was shared between 4 different people. The table is kind of small for us to work on especially with how many people attended the class. The kitchen had a tv to see what was going on but for some reason it wasn't facing the chef so it was pretty useless. The class has helpers to the chef which was very useful. There was someone to helped with cleaning dishes, someone to help us when we couldn't figure out what to do or if we had questions, and someone who helped create the prep of ingredients. Our teacher was nice but it felt like we rushed through cooking the dish. The important stuff was pre prepared which was kind of a bummer. Like the dough for the dumplings was kneaded already and the filling for the soup dumplings were premade. I was also kind of bummed to know that it's super hard to make the soup dumpling filling. We also made some stir-fry noodles and green beans. It was interesting to learn how green beans are prepared to be so crisp via blanching in oil.

Our chef made sure that we understood his instructions to prepare the meal. He emphasized the importance of "mise en place" which means having everything prepared in advance. Our meal was Seared Scallops with Champagne Beurre Blanc, Saffron-Scented Risotto with Peas and Prosciutto, and Chocolate Souffle with Salted Caramel Sauce. We started with making the Risotto. Each couple was matched with another couple and took turns with the preparation. There was a 10 minute break to give the class participants the time to walk around the shop. We finished the risotto and made the scallops. The souffle was the only portion of the meal that the students did not prepare. We enjoyed the experience and decided to take another class.

DO NOT BUY A GIFT CERTIFICATE HERE!…read more As a special birthday gift during my pregnancy, my husband bought a $300 gift card from the Le Creuset store in King of Prussia, PA. This was during the pandemic and we did not find out until later that their gift certificates don't work on their website, only in store. Annoying, but fine. It took us a long time to get back to the store because of baby/pandemic, but we finally made the trip and picked out a new pan together only to be told that our gift certificate only had $50 on it. We were told to call customer service during business hours. We confirmed on our bank statement that we had paid $300. We called that Monday and were told to email customer service, which we did. With not a hint of concern or apology, we were told the card was already used in South Carolina. We explained that was not possible as it had not left my desk in Pennsylvania. We were then told that they meant it was used in Virginia, where we had also not been. When i suggested that an employee could have accidentally entered the wrong number and used our card, they insisted cards can only be used in person. When i suggested that they check surveillance footage since it should be possible to prove we had not been there, they stopped answering. A few weeks later when we emailed again about next steps/said that we would like to file a report, they sent us another short, unsympathetic, no refunds email. Its not a huge amount of money, but its a lot more to us than to a massive international luxury brand. I was horrified at the lack of any attempt to make things right or make any effort at customer service. If you really want a Le Creuset product (they used to be my favorite), do yourself a favor and purchase one from a store like Williams Sonoma or any other business that holds itself accountable and will look out for their customers.

As a long time fan of LeCruset I was excited to visit and was delighted with everything I saw…read more While other stores like Sur La Table also carry the line here I found a wider variety of specialized cookery. Some practical, a rice cooker for instance with a vented insert that prevents boil over and some purely fantastical, do I really need an individual sized Dutch oven? Probably not, but it was so cute! If you fancy yourself an aspiring gourmand then a LeCruset piece is a definite must. The quality can't be beat. I have burned a dish beyond recognition and the pot scoured clean with ease. And of course there are the colors, not unlike Fiestaware, it's a rainbow. Yes the price tag may seem hefty but you will never have to buy the same item ever again.
