I had the opportunity to try the Pedal Party over the weekend with some family and friends. We had an absolute blast. I would say that 90% of making this an enjoyable experience falls within the people you choose to ride with, as well as preparation. We were a group of 15 people, everyone over 21. It's BYOB, so make sure you bring a cooler with CANNED beverages or/and plastic bottles of water. Pros - - You get to play your own music - You choose where to make your stops - There's no limit on how long you take at each stop - They provide Koozies for your drinks Cons - - I'm order to get the bike to move, everyone has to pedal (It's a 2200 lbs bike). There are a few seats above the tires and a bench at the rear that don't require those passengers to pedal, everyone else will have to put work in. So this would mean, you have to make sure you ride with ENOUGH people who can REACH the pedals and who won't get tire TOO quickly. You don't travel far with these bikes but it does require a substantial amount of leg strength to pedal. - You will be on the street, meaning you might or might not catch traffic, depends on the location and the time of your reservation so do your research. NOTE - everyone who is riding must arrive at least 40-30 mins ahead of appointment to get started with paper work. You have to fill out about two sheets of paper. This was a 5 star experience for me. Our driver Zach was beyond amazing with us. He is funny, respectful, punctual, professional with his work, and supper down to earth. I purchased a gift card at a charity auction benefiting children with cancer, when I called to book I was told that my gift card (showing no expiration date, see attached pictures) had expired. I asked if they could honor it in good faith and was told the best they could so was offer a 20% discount ($76 towards a $380 value). I feel as though both the charity and I have been short changed. Clearly the only winner in this situation is Pedal Party as they likely got a tax deduction for their so called charitable contribution. It's a shame Pedal Party couldn't make this right. Knowing the group I had scheduled to go, PP would have likely come out ahead in cash tips and free advertising on social media. **editing to add that Pedal Party BLAMED the charity organization for not communicating an expiration date that was not listed anywhere on that card. Although, it was 10am and blazing hot outside...we pedaled through the heat and had ourselves a great time. The pedal party holds about 18-20 people. It's BYOB and bring your own food. There's even a draft beer dispenser on there! So bring a beer keg of your heart's desire! (I recommend Saint Arnold's Lawnmower) I The only downside is for the shorties. The seat is high so its hard to reach the pedals for the petite people. They get to sit in the back while the others pedal. The captain was pretty bad ass ringing his bell to mush on as we slowed down and making it an entertaining and enjoyable experience. Car honking is a must! No obscenities please. Pedal Party is a blast! It's like a trolley car, but the passengers are the engines - with their feet. A party on the go! Warp speed is about 5mph. 10 people pedal on the sides of the vehicle (plus two over the tires), three can sit on the bench in the back and one stand in the center, to make a total of 16 crew members. Pedal Party supplies the driver. Prices vary on the day of the week and length of time. Primo weekend night two-hour (minimum time) will be $25 per person with 16 people, but there are cheaper alternatives. They have prearranged tours downtown, midtown or Kemah. Also, you can make your own route. In Kemah (open containers allowed), you can have alcohol on the Pedal Party. UPDATE: Now you can have alcohol ON the PP in Houston also. You can not drink next to or leaning on the PP, you must actually be ON the vehicle. Tank up! Pedaling crew need to be 5'3" to reach the pedals (although closer to 5'5" to be comfortable). I had a Groupon for this ridiculous bicycle 'o booze and it shaped up to be a beautiful, sun-drenched, fun day with friends riding around Midtown. The driver kept asking us if we wanted to stop at any bars and we were kinda like... no, we'd rather keep riding around on this contraption. Which I guess surprised him. We did stop at a few bars for shots and snacks, but overall the appeal was staying on the bike. You can bring a keg, but unless you have the bike for all day, it is logistically simpler to bring a cooler with cans of beer. This was the most fun I've had in quite some time! We had 13 people (you can have have up to 16) in our pedal party, plus our super cool captain, Stephanie. They recommend a minimum amount of people to have on the bike is 8, otherwise you'll have trouble getting up driveways. Our tour was 10 am - noon, originally picked to be the east end of Washington. Just a word of warning, unfortunately, not a lot of bars are open at 10 am on Saturdays, so we had to amend our route. Stephanie was super helpful and helped us determine a route that included Onion Creek, Porch Swing Pub and a quick stop at Liberty Station. It was perfect! They have a list of rules to note once you sign up, but know beforehand that you cannot bring glass containers or liquor--just beer and wine. Since we were imbibing in the morning, we tried to get creative with some drinks. I was happy to find some plastic Riesling bottles at HEB; that, plus some Central Market peach bellini italian soda--winning! Another good combo is fresh orange juice and some Coppola canned sparkling white wine from Spec's. They also have the option to bring a keg. Pedaling was definitely harder than I thought it would be, but I loved it. Try to find friends that love to cycle so you don't have to work as hard. ;) Although coordinating with 13+ peoples' schedules can be a pain, it was SO worth it. We worked with Gene at Pedal Party to map out a progressive dinner route. We selected the following stops: 1) Sawyer Park for a few drinks at sun set (great timing as the place was not crowed and drink specials kept our bar tab low); 2) Star Pizza for dinner (we ordered ahead and were prepared to eat on the Pedal Party Bus/Bike... but all was well and we ate inside); and, 3) Washington Grill... great stop we arranged ahead of time and had outdoor gazebo reserved. We had awesome desserts and a few drinks. Gene (our Captain) was fun and also very funny. Note: This is not a sporting/athletic activity. It is just plain fun. This was a lot of fun --dare I say too much fun considering we started drinking in the morning and were hungover by 6 pm--and made for a truly memorable Saturday. Muneezeh K. and I had 2 friends who were leaving for jobs that would see them overseas for at least a year, so the theme was 'MERICA, natch. In a party of 16, efforts ranged from "meh, what's more American than this polo shirt and jeans I would wear on a random Tuesday" to "GOOD LORD HOW BIG IS THAT EAGLE FLYING IN FRONT OF THAT EVEN LARGER AND MORE GLORIOUS 'OLD GLORY?'" (Note: I was the latter). The group was fun, but the environment was very conducive to it as well. It wasn't just that we were on a bike, in eternal near-collision-mode, going ~8 mph down Washington on a Saturday morning, while drinking lower end of the spectrum domestic light beers that made it fun. Our Pedal Party captain ensured that he was just enough entertainment to encourage the lively attitude and engage with our group, without trying to make it the "Justin show" (I think his name was Justin). I would do it again. I imagine it would be even better knowing the entire group of 16 (not to say new friends were not made in the bike trenches). Strong recommendation to try at least once. Logistically: -People with really short legs can go along for the ride. There are as many as 4 non-cycling seats. -BYOB, including kegs (though we opted to rotate bartenders on the cans). -Try to plan it around crawfish season because that was awesome. -Presumably BYO Food as well. read more

We had a great time. The actual concept is fantastic and I had a great birthday. Only problem was our driver, Will. His attitude from the beginning was terrible. It was time to go and we weren't moving, so we asked if we could leave, and he replied "oh, y'all are ready? alright". No speech or safety announcements, and on top we had to ask HIM how to work the thing. He says "just pedal". He didn't have to do anything but steer and he MISSED the turns we wanted to turn at because he was on his phone texting. Not only does that waste time that I paid for, it's just disrespectful and puts a damper on the party. He was careless and made us feel like we were inconveniencing him. I just had my 24th birthday party on a Pedal Party bike this past weekend and I can honestly say it was the BEST birthday I have ever had! Myself and 12 of my friends rented the bike for 3 hours for the Midtown tour and I'm glad we did. I had read previous reviews saying that 2 hours was not enough and they were right. Three hours was the perfect amount of time to rent the bike and we opted for a night tour 7pm-10pm. The weather was amazing(not too hot like I was expecting) and we went to about 4-5 bars with enough time to thoroughly enjoy each one. Nate was our caption and he was absolutely amazing! He did a great job of explaining all the rules of the bike and how it worked and took us to all the right bars! He was a lot of fun and really made the experience an enjoyable one!! We had Carlos as our captain and from what I read on previous reviews, I wasn't sure how the night would go...but in the end, had nothing to worry about. He was on point and communicated everything with me beforehand on getting everyone there on time, filling out forms, etc. Because getting out later would cut into our time, which he didn't want, so I appreciated the fact that he was looking out for us to ensure we got our $$$ worth. I made sure to tell everyone to make it to PP HQ 1/2 an hour before we were set to go at 8 and it went perfectly. We were able to get everything done, went over all of the details and by 8 we were off! Needless to say, we had a blast and Carlos was awesome. He talked with everyone, gave great tips at certain bars and even took a group photo. At the end of the night, he let us know that if we made it back after 10 that we wouldn't get charged extra. Overall we made it in good time and sweated our @$$es off, and was completely worth it. Everyone I've met or spoke with at PP were real friendly, personable and never made us feel rushed. This is a fantastic idea. A people powered bar on wheels (it is BYOB). Half the entertainment is just watching peoples reactions are you cruise down the street on your way to the next bar. I had a great time although I am not too proud it admit I am still sore as I write this review. It is really not a lot of work to pedal and you can stay at bars and rest as long as you need to within your time limit. It is the bike seats that get to you. We showed up for our pedal party, which was paid in full, as requested, 3 days in advance. It was thundering, lightening and raining very hard. Obviously, we couldn't go out in that kind of weather. They would not refund our money. They offered us a "rain check" (okay fine for those of us that live in the Houston area). The "captain" gave me an email to request the rain check. 3 emails were sent without a response. A text was sent to the captain to see if he could give us any additional information. No response. Unprofessional doesn't even begin to describe this experience. What and a scam, especially if weather doesn't permit you to go out. Pedal parties are the BEST way to bar hop with friends and even total strangers. On our recent trip, I only knew 3 of the 16 people on our bike but it didn't matter. Nate cranked the music, we started pedaling and friendships were formed. I like to bike for exercise, but this is the most fun I've ever had on a bike. Stopping to check out new bars and have a drink, felt like a reward for all our efforts. With so much teamwork involved this would be a great social activity for any company wanting to have some fun with their employees. I would say, I wish I'd worn sneakers instead of flip flops, it would have made the pedaling easier. During our trip, I thought man am I going to be sore tomorrow, but you know what, I wasn't sore at all. When the temperatures cool off, we're definitely planning a girl night pedal party! By the way you can request your captain and Nate and Stephanie were the bomb diggity, both have an excellent sense of humor and kept our group motivated!
