On my recent trip to Houston!…read more When I was searching for dowtown bars and dancing, Behind Closed Doors popped up. It looked dark, clubbish, and fun (exactly what I was looking for) and I couldn't wait to come here. After a 25 minute Uber ride we were downtown and walking to our destination. At first we could not find it but thankfully a nice gentlemen showed us where it was. Upon walking in, darkness with these bright lights paved our way. We sat down at the bar, but realized dancing did not start until 10pm. The bartender came over and said to us "we have a speakasy behind door #3" we were like WHAT! Let's go. So, we walked down the dark hallway and pushed open door #3 (hence the name) to find this super cool speakeasy bar. Dim lights, really modern decor, comfy suede chairs and best of all, some really great cocktails. If you are ever in Downtown Houston, I highly recommend you coming here. I promise you will have the best time. We did not stay for dancing.

This was my first time doing a pedal party and I would highly recommend you trying it! It's a great & fun experience. The meeting spot was in front of Little Woodrows. We had to arrive 30 mins early to sign consents and waivers. Operating the bike took some getting used to but we finally got it together lol. We peddled for a few blocks then stopped at two bars in Midtown. Overall this experience was great! Thanks Joshua! :-)

I would say that 90% of making this an enjoyable experience falls within the people you choose to ride with, as well as preparation. We were a group of 15 people, everyone over 21. It's BYOB, so make sure you bring a cooler with CANNED beverages or/and plastic bottles of water. Pros - - You get to play your own music - You choose where to make your stops - There's no limit on how long you take at each stop - They provide Koozies for your drinks Cons - - I'm order to get the bike to move, everyone has to pedal (It's a 2200 lbs bike). There are a few seats above the tires and a bench at the rear that don't require those passengers to pedal, everyone else will have to put work in. So this would mean, you have to make sure you ride with ENOUGH people who can REACH the pedals and who won't get tire TOO quickly. You don't travel far with these bikes but it does require a substantial amount of leg strength to pedal. - You will be on the street, meaning you might or might not catch traffic, depends on the location and the time of your reservation so do your research. NOTE - everyone who is riding must arrive at least 40-30 mins ahead of appointment to get started with paper work. You have to fill out about two sheets of paper. This was a 5 star experience for me. Our driver Zach was beyond amazing with us. He is funny, respectful, punctual, professional with his work, and supper down to earth. If it's your first time trying the Pedal Party, make sure you ask for Zach as your driver, you won't regret it. I hope you find this review helpful in choosing this experience.

As soon as you walk up the steps, it is going to smell good as hell! Nachos, jerk fries, things like that, made to order. There is a stage, there is a large bar (it has two sides to it), and some upstairs standing room to get off of the main floor. The music was good, everybody was pretty cool, even security was talking and chatting it up. It was a nice little vibe, except waiting in line to get in for as long as it took a comma I would recommend. The night that we went it was free before 11:00 or so, you got there a little before and as soon as we got to the front of line the guy cut off the free entry so that kind of sucked but that's not the end of the world. I was still suggest and recommend.

There typically is a cover for everyone, and Saturday nights they play Latin music. If you are a fan of dancing, this a great place to dance because they play reggaeton, hip-hop etc. I literally danced my feet off. The only reason why I am deducting a star (which honestly should be more than one star) is because the venue is fairly small and it gets crowded VERY quickly. The actual dance floor is tiny as large sections take up most of the space, and it becomes almost impossible dance. I actually went to the patio and danced out there because I couldn't take it anymore

The staff that was there said they open at 10pm and the management staff didn't tell them anything about being open for 9pm business!!??‍ (is that my fault or did y'all drop the ball?) *After parking my own fucking car (and remember they not open), a guy pulls up, changes his shirt really fast & then tells me I need to pay him $10!!...fuck I do...I parked my own shit & you wasn't even here or have any signage up...what about all the other cars & I quote "OH IM ABOUT TO WALK INTO THE BAR AND COLLECT EVERYONE'S KEYS"!!!?? Now ya just insulting me you ain't about to do shit & only talking to me because you see me.. FUCK OUTTA HERE! *Asked bartender about what drinks were "SPECIFICALLY ON SPECIAL" till 11pm and order 4x$5 drinks. I asked why is it $30 & not $20 because I only had 4 drinks & did he "ALREADY" add gratuity...he replies tax & gratuity was already& included so since he lied and actually charged me $7 per drink I didn't tip & left. There is a man who shows up completely naked, every weekend, with nothing but a sock covering his genitals. From what I personally witnessed, he repeatedly approached groups of women who were simply dancing and would get very close to them and start moving his body in a sexual and inappropriate way. I never saw him approach men in the same way. I know at least 8 women who have stopped going to this venue because they no longer feel comfortable there. It sucks because this used to be a place where we could all feel safe and comfortable enough to dance and drink :/

This Play Nightlife bar is located at the former Hamburger Mary's and Buddy's aka Kiki's on Grant Street of the Montrose Gayborhood. The entire complex has Hollywood neon sign on it. The left side is called Club Pause. The right side is called Play Nightlife. Together they are called Pause/Play (like on the music machine). On the weekends, Club Pause opens at noon and music starts at 10 pm. There are other activities like karaoke nights on Wednesdays and Thirsty Thursday etc. I'm usually here on Friday and Saturday nights after 11 pm. Saturdays seem to have a bigger crowd. Club Pause has bounce music by DJ Jimmy D on Saturdays and Sundays. It's a place to hang out and dance. I like to dance at Play Nightlife because the deejays are from the former Eagle Houston. CJ Fader was the resident deejay upstairs and DJ Jimmy Skinner was the resident deejay downstairs. Music is more danceable than South Beach Houston. There are not many parking spots up front. People usually park elsewhere and bar hop to Play from neighboring bars. There are 2 taco trucks in the parking lot. My favorite food truck Pixi Dust Houston is previously called Eagle Eats. That explains why I come to Play Nightlife more often than any other gay bars in the Houston's Gayborhood.

We came super early, like 9:30 pm. Yeah. We got our free pass. Normally, it's $10 cover charge, which isn't bad because there is a huge dance floor with high tech lighting system and sounds system. It was totally worth every penny. Because we love to dance. We adore the music to our liking, more like in the 90's oldies. Yeah, we are older than most people on the dance floor. There were also girls and straight couples on the dance floor and around the lounge area. Oh, there is a cool patio on the side. Restroom was clean.
