Worth knowing the story behind it: Peculier Pub has been running on Bleecker Street since 1987, started by a Chinese immigrant family who got their start selling hard-to-find imported beers out of a small West 4th Street deli before turning it into a full bar. The name comes from Theakston Old Peculier, a favorite English ale of the family's, and the place has stuck to that original mission ever since: somewhere north of 300 bottled beers rotating through at any given time plus 27 draft lines, the walls covered in bottle-cap mosaics made from decades of empties. It's a short walk from Washington Square Park, so it pulls a heavy NYU crowd along with the beer nerds, and it gets loud and packed the later it gets. Was in the bleeker street area and needed a quick bite. Seemed good enough so I went in, their house lager is fine, standard manhattan pricing. Nothing new for bar snacks, standard fare and options--but the chicken fingers stood out as simple and easy. Pretty good helping of fries and chicken fingers! I am almost exclusively into charming or bougie spots-- I don't have range. Which would lead most who know me to think I'd never step into a sticky pub, and yet I am somewhat charmed by this spot in the heart of the NYU bar scene that I feel too old for. Firstly, I remember landing here the night after a notably terrible break up over a decade ago, so young and so heartbroken, throwing back cheap whiskey shots with new friends. The vibe didn't matter so much but it's loud enough in here that no one can eavesdrop on your conversation, and it's chill enough that you can just pop in and find a seat. While I don't find myself needing to drown any sorrows in whiskey shots, and I should say I also don't beeline to places like this ever, but I really don't mind grabbing a beer here. Plus, they have quite an interesting selection of hard seltzers, including from Asian American brand Lunar, and hard seltzers in interesting flavors like Hard Coffee (would not try but if it's your thing, more power to you), matcha, and yuzu, so you don't have to settle for beer if you don't want to. Awesome selection of beer both on tap and their can/bottle selection. It's quite a big space with a lot of tables/booths for groups of different sizes. My partner and I got a couple of rounds while waiting for a nearby reservation and enjoyed each beer we tried - we plan on coming back soon to try more! I thought I came here for their Happy Hour deals but it was no where to be found until we asked the waitress. It was a very limited Happy Hour menu which included beer and shot combo, well drinks and selected draft beers. Food prices were decent. I ordered a margarita which came out to be $12, not bad but it was worst when it came out to be super sweet. My heir chicken tenders and fries basket were super fresh and nachos were mediocre. It tasted good while it was hot on the plate. Waitresses were talking about their personal business in front of customers and did not offer water to anyone. Peculier Pub? You still mean my second home??? I have to update this review because, GOD. PP is still poppin' off. One of the best bars in the world. There is absolutely nothing bad about Peculier. This place was our saviour during COVID. It made things feel normal in the middle of chaos. They now have outdoor seating and as of June 11 2021 - you can now order at the bar and be unmasked IF YOU ARE VACCINATED. I've been coming here for nearly half a decade at this point (lmao.) I've met my best friends here and have fallen in love with all the staff. Service is quick af, on top of it and so so kind. The thought of gin will be forming in my head and it'll be there before I open my mouth. (They should enter Guinness World Records.) Prices are still great. The beer selection is MASSIVE and always being updated. They always have specials and if you're a cocktail slut -- they'll make you one too. (Check out their hot drink in the winter time!) Come with friends or alone -- If you're lonely, don't worry. Sit at the bar and you'll get into a conversation with one of the million regulars. Years later, I still have very intimate feelings about this bar. Thank you for harbouring my loud ass group of friends. We will never ever leave. I don't think I could live without Peculier. They have a great selection of local as well as international beers and a decent list of ciders. They've also got some local beers on tap. If all of this doesn't excite you, there's also a cocktail menu and an open bar. So basically if you drink , I'm sure you'll find something. They have outdoor seating only now because of Covid. But the inside looks pretty huge. Would definitely come back just to sit in one of those booths when it's finally allowed. Tried the Margarita Sour from the tap menu which was definitely very sour but something different . Also had the Swedish Pear Cider which had a funky initial smell but actually tasted pretty good! The price for most beers were in the 6-10$ range. Tried the Mojito and a Rose based cocktail( don't remember the name but was different and tasted great) . I've been coming to Peculier Pub for a decade now. It's one of those bars that you might just find yourself in one day, and then find yourself constantly going back. I've had nights that start here, nights that end here, and nights that you're pretty sure you were here but you can't remember. I've made new friends here, some until morning and some for years to come. I've heard countless stories retold here, some for the first time and some for the thirtieth time. Peculier Pub is one of those places that has just been an immeasurable marker in my life. Having spent literally thousands of dollars at this bar, I find it strange that I didn't know until this last year two things: One - they serve freaking food. Do you know how many nights I was here, starving, not knowing some dank bar food was right here? Too freaking many. Two - They have a wall of fame for completing three cards of challenges. This wall is the wall leading up towards the bathroom. I mention this because when I was younger and more single this would be where I would meet many people, on the dreaded bathroom line, RIGHT NEXT TO THIS WALL. Seriously. Have been here a handful of times, most recently for Beer Club. We had a great time. There were 10 of us and we took over a big table near the front. They have a very good selection of beers, reasonably priced (note: cash only) and service was good. I had a couple of beers at the bar before the guys got there and when we moved the table, service was just as good. Kate was our waitress (and resident English Lit expert) and she was incredible. She kept all of us in beer and food, made great recommendations and we got to try a variety of beers, with a strong emphasis on domestic craft beers. (If you go there, try to go on a night Kate is working and ask her if you can call her Dad and tell her that she's awesome) It's kind of divey, but it doesn't smell bad and I've been when it's crowded and uncomfortable, but for a mid-week place to get together with a bunch of friends and have some great beers and decent food, you can't do much better than Peculier Pub. COVID 19 Status: they have outdoors seating with both drinks and bar bites (food). This might be my new favorite dive bar in the city! From drinks to food to the service, everything was great. I got the Speed Racer (whiskey based drink)- loved it! If you like whiskey, definitely try this drink. We also tried the mojitos, which were great and refreshing. My favorite was the Kimchi dumplings! They are delicious and I had to get atleast two orders. The beef dumplings are good too. This place never fails to disappointment. I always recommend people to visit here when in New York! The cocktails are very resonably priced compared to some of the other bars I've visited. Also love the the huge selection of beers from all around the world, which never ceases to amaze whoever I bring in. They are usually captivated by the unique bottle cap designs, which are quite IG worthy. Didn't feel like drinking too much when I bought my friends in the other day. I've been here a few times over the years and it's most definitely a chill dive bar. I like the vibe of the place, especially if you're just looking for somewhere low-key to hang with friends and grab some cheap drinks/food. However, the drinks do seem to be watered down (at least they're cheap though). I ordered a chicken wrap to share with a friend and it was alright; not the greatest but decent for $8. Fries are really good. I like that you can sit at any table and don't need to order food to do so or be seated by a hostess. It's just first come, first serve. As others have mentioned, it's a $20 card minimum so if that's too steep, there is an ATM on-site. I usually expect this of dive bars though. All in all, decent place if you're just looking for somewhere low-key but if you're looking for really good drinks, I think there are better places in the area. read more

Came in for just one round near the end of the night where the only people left were costumed performers from a nearby show doing a Soul Train style funky dance line down the center of the room while me and a friend admired on from one of many tables. This is absolutely the spot. I have been going here for years living in Greenwich Village and I have never felt more welcome at a bar. Recently, we moved to Brooklyn and were gone for a couple months but when we walked in the other day, the team greeted us by name and with open arms. We were right at home again. The drinks are good, the food is good (curly fries and popcorn are a fam favorite) and the servers make a point to get to know you and welcome you back. You want to watch the football game? Let them know and it's on. You feel unsafe, stop in, and the servers protect you (actually happened). We spent so much time dining and drinking here during COVID and it was our safe place. The beer selection is one of the largest I've seen in any bar, so there's something for everybody. They also have liquor and mixed drinks for those that don't drink beer. I hadn't been to the PP in a number of years but with some friends recently we popped in to raise a glass or five in honor of the holidays. We started the adventure at John's Of Bleecker Street (another high recommendation if you are down this way) and then it was beverage consumption time. Considering it was a Tuesday night there was not a massive crowd so we quickly found a table towards the front. My buds and I kept it simple and just ordered a few pitchers of Yuengling over the course of a couple of hours while adding two orders of their chicken wings to the mix. Regarding the wings, they come six per order so if you plan on sharing across three people you will need more than one order. They were wonderful, nicely spiced and meaty. Nothing chincey about them which was a good thing to find. The waitstaff was friendly and the background music was Rock and Roll which is never a bad thing IMHO. There was also a free WiFi signal which allowed me to use Swarm, Yelp and Foodspotting as needed. I'd like to return and try more of their eats so let's see what the New Year brings. read more

It's funny seeing people refer to this as a dive bar. If you think this is a dive bar you should probably venture outside Manhattan more often. The bartenders are great. I prefer coming on weekdays as the weekends suffer from the typical "clowns on parade" factor, like everywhere else in the village. On the weekdays it has a chill vibe with regulars and great service. On weekends it turns into a typical bar on bleeker, loud drunk NYU students playing terrible music on the jukebox. But you can't really fault the establishment for that. It comes with the territory. read more
