Good dental service but be prepared to wait an hour even if you have an appointment. It's a coin toss how long you wait

I generally avoid posting negative reviews, as I understand that running a business comes with its own challenges. However, in this case, I feel compelled to share my experience so that other parents do not go through what I did at this location. Last December, my 5‑year‑old daughter had a dental checkup here and was diagnosed with cavities. One set of fillings was completed during that visit, and we were advised to return later for the remaining work, as per the doctor's recommendation. Unfortunately, this is where the issues began. Payment and Treatment Confusion Based on the initial assessment and X‑rays, we were asked to pay the full amount upfront, which the front desk clearly stated was for the entire treatment. During the actual examination, the dentist advised that some cavities did not need immediate filling and could be monitored, considering my daughter's age. As a result, only part of the procedure was completed, 2nd part can done it after a week, and we were informed that we would receive an $89 credit from the initial assessment. Payment was made in full, and the receptionist explicitly confirmed that we had paid in full. Issues During the Follow‑Up Appointment When we returned for the next appointment, the situation became extremely confusing and frustrating: Initially, the receptionist asked me to pay over $200. I explained that we had already paid in full in December. After rechecking, he said he could see an $89 credit and then asked me to pay $111, which still did not align with what we were told earlier. I spent 45 minutes trying to explain the situation. Another receptionist then joined and stated that there was a "note mistake," claiming that the system incorrectly showed "paid in full" instead of "paid for that day's treatment only." She also mentioned that the staff member who made the note was not available. I questioned how this could be attributed to an individual when this is a practice operating under the name Pearly Whites, not a single person. There was no apology, and her attitude was dismissive. I was also told that doctors change frequently and that each doctor may have different opinions, meaning today's treatment plan could change again. By this point, I had completely lost confidence. I checked in at 2:00 PM, and by 3:15 PM, the issue was still unresolved. I ultimately had to leave without proceeding with the appointment. Overall Experience What I took away from this experience is that there appears to be no clear accountability or responsible point of contact at this location, especially within pediatric dentistry. The response was extremely lethargic, the attitude was unacceptable, and the overall customer experience was very poor. I genuinely feel sorry for the owner, as I am unsure whether these issues ever reach your attention. I could not find a way to contact anyone beyond the front desk staff. I understand that different doctors may have different approaches, and I am fine with seeing different doctors. However, what I do not understand is how treatment plans, payment expectations, and communication can vary so drastically within the same practice. For context, I am not a new patient. I have been coming to this practice for the past three years with all three of my children. My hope in writing this is that the owner becomes aware of these issues, staff attitudes are corrected, and trust can be restored so this location can continue to serve families better. Horrible experience...go for 2nd opinion if they say you need mouth work... First, my son suffers from high anxiety and they added more kindle to the fire. It was my first time at Pearly Whites Whippany location everyone was so nice and very interactive I love how they make you feel welcome and talk to the patients as they're getting there teeth cleaned a friend of mine and his mom recommended Pearly Whites and I really enjoyed it I will definitely be coming back and permanent dentist office. The office atmosphere is very upbeat and the people are very kind and very genuine. read more

To sum things up I absolutely hate going to the dentist! However!!!! My experience here has really flipped things around. There has been a root canal that I have put off for YEARS but I really had no choice to do it now because the pain was unbearable. Can you believe I walked in with pain and walked out with no pain?! Dr. Jae An and His Assistant were beyond welcoming, kind and professional. Explained everything thoroughly and asked me if there were any doubts or questions in mind. I had the best dental experience and also orthodontist experience at this office. Rita the manager took care of all my dental issues in 1 day and made sure that all my dental needs were met. The dentist and hygienist thoroughly cleaned my teeth and fixed a minor cavity. The orthodontist agreed that my teeth needed to be more aligned. I highly recommend you going here!! Dr James Sara is amazing!!! My brother who is handicap went there for cleaning x-rays and review of work that needs to be done Dr. James was so professional took so much time to go over different options for us as we're on a budget and have to self pay I've never gone to an office that is that attentive and accommodating to his special needs ! His assistants and front desk area and financial person where the same printed out all of the paperwork for us so we can review and decide our options Dr James looks like he could be on television movie star! I took my children to the Pearly Whites in Berkeley Heights for a routine teeth cleaning. The office was clean and everyone was very organized. We were basically in and out. Our dental hygenist, Jackie, was wonderful. She was very thorough and very friendly. Great experience!! read more

I'm not happy to leave such a negative review but I feel compelled to for the sake of other special needs parents of small children. We made the appointment for my son's first dental checkup, informing them of his special needs, ensuring we were the first appointment (covid precautions). We checked in, were taken to a room shortly after. The nurse asked a few basic questions, and told us that the "doctor had to give clearance before they could enter his mouth" and that it would be "a few minutes" OK - well, GUESS WHAT, we waited 10 minutes, 20 minutes, 30 minutes, 40 minutes, 50 minutes. No FREAKING DOCTOR. We had to walk out!!!!! Honestly, this was nothing short of discrimination. I don't care what policy you have in place, it is ABSURD to have a special needs 2 year old wait in a dark office room for god knows how long you would have had to make us wait. I have seen some bad reviews here and felt compelled to leave a review. I honestly do not understand any of these bad reviews. I have seen nothing but warmth and comfort going to Pearly Whites in Whippany NJ. They have been inviting, friendly, warm and almost treat you like family. I am a southern Kansas raised in the sticks kind of guy. Getting me to go to a doctor or dentist for anything is a chore. Someone said plague that is usually how I am about these kinds of things. After going here after 30 years of neglect (to give you incite on how bad I am about this.) Yes 30 years of no dental work period. I have gone here to get the 11 issues addressed plus a whitening. They are the best dentist practice I have ever, in my 47 years of life been to. Please go see them if you have issues or for just a checkup. I actually liked my Dr. at Pearly Whites, I feel she did nice work -though I might have to update that after seeing a new dentist. She was mot the most empathetic person in the world true but... But during COVID-19 when I've been trying to go back in and make an appointment several times, I've been discounted and treated rudely by the front desk staff. I am in a very high risk category and immunosuppressed and obviously concerned about safety protocols in my dentists office. I've been answered in a rude and curt manner and even lied to when asking about safety protocols and vaccination status of people who will be in a small, cramped space right up in my face with my open and vulnerable mouth! If it was me being asked the same questions , I would willingly and empathetic ally comply. I was asking about what increased safety steps were being taken. Including but not limited to vaccination status. IT IS NOT A HIPPAA VIOLATION TO ASK ABOUT VACCINATION STATUS OF MEDICAL PERSONNEL OR ANYONE! I also offered my status to make them feel more comfortable...no problem showing my card. But with a fraction of my lung capacity and not wanting to chance getting this deadly disease, it was like pulling teeth to get the info (excuse the pun). Furthermore, the short and rude way I was delivered this misinformation, that it was a HIPPAA violation to ask or even share vaccination, that the front desk girl said was coming from my doctor Dr. Jean ...elevated my suspicions, my sense of mistrust. Was it coming from my doctor?? Your medical personnel, especially your dentist should understand safety concerns and have front desk personnel warmly, openly and willingly offer this information IF they are following top safety standards. It should be no problem right? I even tried to get an assistant, hygienist or my doctor to call me back to get this info. But no one did. read more

Not only would I not recommend Pearly whites to anyone, but I would warn them to stay away. Over the years my family has had negative experiences there. My wife left 3 years ago because of a very rude and inconsiderate experience with one of the doctors, the next year my daughter left because of rudeness and 2 weeks ago my son left due to a rude experience with the doctor. As if that was not bad enough when my son went to get a crown for his root canal at his new dentist office, they found 13 cavities in between his teeth. When we shared our shock and frustration, the new dentist office shared that we were not the only family they have been dealing with problems from Pearly Whites. The dentist from our new office stated they should have their license taken away. On a positive note, the girls at the front desk are very kind and helpful. I'm not a negative post kind of person but I have to warn others of Pearly Whites. read more
