In my 20's I broke my 2 front teeth and got them bonded. In my 30's I needed braces due to earlier health issues. Fast forward to now at 51 finding Dr Zev Segal who truly is Magical!!! I have had my 2 front teeth bonded over and over for the past 4 years, every 6 months. I had finally had enough and researched the best Dentists in NJ. I came across The Art of Smile and put my faith in all of the positive reviews. The moment you walk in the door you are greeted with such a genuine greeting ( through masks of course). Absolutely do not recommend this practice…read more I ended up here for an emergency appointment in March of 2024. I went back for a cleaning & they talked me into spending $900 out of pocket for perio trays, which were going to heal my gums, and "push the gel up into the gums" I used the trays but never saw any improvement. Went back to a previous dentist that was in network & now closer to where I moved. They asked me when my last cleaning was, and I said March of 2024. They said that some of my build up was black, meaning it has been there for quite a while and there's no way the previous place did any level of quality cleaning. I told them about the perio trays, and they had never even heard of them and said that it was absolutely impossible for anything to be pushed up into the gums like Art of Smile convinced me the perio trays do. At this time, they referred me to a periodontist for an evaluation because of gum inflammation & bleeding and I had a deep scaling done & gums already feel & look better in TWO WEEKS with 90% less bleeding. Periodontist never heard of Perio trays either. In summary, The Art of Smile: - Didn't do a quality teeth cleaning - Wasted $900 dollars out of pocket for something that wasn't even capable of what they claimed - Never mentioned that they didn't take my insurance, so everything was taken out of my small out of network amount - Didn't inform me of the level of my gum issue - Didn't refer me to a periodontist or recommend a deep cleaning - Had to chase them for months for a receipt for FSA - which disabled my card for months, then couldn't even provide me with an itemized receipt (HOW?) - There was a small space between two of my teeth, AOS told me I should just replace both teeth to fill in the gap. That gap was caused by my gum inflammation and will close as my gums heal after the deep scaling. - When I complained to them, they didn't even apologize. Just told me they'd remove me from their list & have a good day. All of these things, allowed my condition to worsen. This practice is absolutely deplorable, and the fact that you can't hold any of these horrible places accountable is astonishing. I don't ever write reviews, but I don't want anyone else to go through what I went through and waste their time or money.

It was a Saturday and I started randomly calling orthodontists. I reached Dr. Sacks' office and explained the situation and the pain my son was in. They were empathetic to our situation and told us to come right over. We got to the office, waited 10 minutes and then the Dr. saw us. It was like watching a NASCAR pit crew take the tires off a car. They popped the bands off the brackets, took out the old wire and inserted a new one with no questions asked. They were just helping a Dad out of town with a kid in need. A couple of things (a) I realize we got lucky it was the 1 Saturday a month the Dr. had office hours and (b) we were lucky he was able to slide us into his schedule...but the truth is his office could've told us were not patients, "sorry," or "our schedule is too full, sorry," and they didn't. To me that is not only a sign of a good doctor but a great person.

The dentist is extremely unpleasant and rude…read more My family avoids fluoride due to its confirmed toxicity and harmful effects on a developing child's nervous system. While studies have clearly demonstrated its risks, none have definitively proven its effectiveness in preventing cavities. Because of this, we do not use fluoride and have opted out of fluoride treatments at the end of dental cleanings. This preference is noted in the system. However, the doctor was clearly displeased with our decision. Ever since I marked this in the system, he has treated my family--and especially me--with utter contempt. When I left his office, he shot me a cold, piercing glare filled with disdain. That moment solidified my decision: I promised myself and my children that we would never go back. Unfortunately, my child developed a cavity, and in an effort to address it as quickly as possible, I decided--against my better judgment--to return to this dentist rather than waste time searching for a new provider. That was a mistake. The appointment turned out to be one of the worst experiences I have ever had. The doctor was openly condescending and unkind. He responded to my questions with the shortest possible answers--one or two words at most. After administering anesthesia to my child, instead of engaging in the usual small talk to ease the patient's anxiety (such as asking about school, pets, or summer plans), he simply sat there in complete silence, his head down, waiting for the anesthesia to take effect. His front-desk staff adopted the same hostile attitude. When I casually commented on how much I liked their potted cacti in tooth-shaped planters, the receptionist looked at me, said nothing, and just smirked. Even my child noticed the uncomfortable atmosphere. When I told her that we would never return, she replied, "Mom, but you said the same thing last time." This time, I mean it. I do not recommend this dental office. The doctor is more focused on maximizing profits than on patient care. His goal is to push as many procedures as possible to extract the maximum amount of money from your insurance. When I asked about a dark spot on my child's tooth, he dismissed it as a mere stain. When I suggested that the enamel might already be compromised, allowing debris and plaque to accumulate, he disagreed but then added, "If it bothers you, I can clean it." I declined because I understood that "cleaning" the spot would require disrupting the enamel. Instead of clarifying whether I was correct, he simply repeated his offer: "If it bothers you, I can remove it." Of course, this would have been billed as an additional procedure to my insurance. This dentist is rude, dismissive, and solely focused on profit. I will not make the mistake of returning again.
