Backdoor Gallery is - IMO - better characterized as a women's fashion boutique or a women's accessories store. Though admittedly the items for sale are mainly handcrafted, artisanal, and/or one-of-a-kind/hand made pieces, they definitely fall under what I'd call ladies' fashion or accessories sales - artistic though they may be! Don't pass up this store by thinking it's another one of Fredericksburg's several Art Galleries with expensive art for sale. If you are a woman - or a man who likes giving women nice gifts - you are bound to find in Backdoor Gallery things that appeal to your refined sense of style and taste AND have a unique, reasonably priced, handcrafted flair. The staff when I've been there are exceptionally friendly & helpful - and dare I say to potential male customers: stunningly beautiful. Hmm. Perhaps it's an Art Gallery after all. I think I'm in love with Backdoor Gallery!

Nate loves birds, so we stopped in while in the area just browsing the shops. Wren and Sparrow is pretty packed for a smaller shop - they had lots of great items for any bird enthusiast, including gifts, puzzles, lots of bird food, plenty of feeders, including lots that were made of recycled plastic, which I loved, and more. I liked the informational signs that said which birds like which feed. Nate ended up getting a hummingbird feeder ring, kind of as a joke, but also I know he really wishes a hummingbird would land on his hand! The employees working were really helpful - the one who rang up this purchase gave some tips on getting them to land, like wearing lots of red and putting on sunglasses so the hummingbirds can't see your eyes moving, which may deter them! The last thing I noticed is that they had a soundtrack of birdsongs playing throughout the store, which I really liked. Our local bird store is always silent, which I think is so weird!

So when I finally decided to finish that room, I wanted beautiful curtains and a duvet cover to go with my new paint, furniture and rug. I just happened to find FWT online and was kind of overwhelmed by all the choices. But after ordering and receiving 20 (!) swatches, we chose our pattern. I could not be happier. The whole set is incredibly rich-looking and really lovely with the new soft green walls and walnut furniture. Definitely check out their various trim options. I spent a lot on trim, especially on the curtains, but what I ended up with was absolutely stunning. When we hung the curtains and put on the duvet cover, my husband and I just kind of walked around stunned for a while, saying "Is this really our bedroom or are we in some fancy bed-and-breakfast?" When my last two kids move out I am already looking forward to redecorating their rooms and I know I will use FWT for that too!

I knew I didn't want shutters or blinds but looking into drapery I found a confusing array of different styles and types. I have one huge window that I couldn't go off-the-shelf with so I decided to go to a custom drapery shop. I checked locally and the prices were prohibitive ($4800 for 3 window treatments). I found these guys online and gave them a call. Kelly was great in helping me decide what I wanted and sent free swatches for me to look at. When I decided on a fabric, she walked me through how to measure (not an easy thing to do) and placing the order. Two weeks later, my new drapes arrived and I couldn't be happier with them! The best part was that they were about half the cost of getting them locally and now I have custom drapes that fit my windows and decor perfectly. The only drawback is that, with shipping, the drapes do arrive wrinkled but nothing that a little steam didn't fix. Everyone I spoke to was knowledgeable, responsive and helpful. Highly recommended
