This time I am taking the time to share the amazing customer service I received from James Mares at La Paz Optometric. I have been with La Paz Optometric for 30 years at least. Dr. Yamamoto is awesome; the staff is courteous. I am in once a year and that is it. About two weeks ago I went in to have my glasses frame fixed or replaced. They called me a few days later and I picked up my glasses. The next day I noticed that I could not see as clearly as I did before. I swore that I had the wrong prescription lenses. I called and demanded to speak to the Office Manager. I was ready for a battle on the phone (shame on me). James very nicely said no problem come in tomorrow and I can check it for you. I went in earlier than expected. Now am ready to be a "karen" if need be. Well, I did not have to wait long even though I showed up 45 minutes early. James was very nice, took the glasses, came back and said the prescription was correct. I said how do I know that it is? I could see fine before and now not so much. He did a quick test, and it looked like my sight had changed. Thinking to myself "great now I need to get a new prescription, and it has not been a year since I bought these glasses " James suggested having my eyes checked again by Dr. Yamamoto who happened to be there. I agreed and waited 10 more minutes. Dr. checked me again and in fact my sight had changed a bit. The entire time, James had the most delightful attitude and made me feel like I am a valued patient/customer. He took the time and with kindness he disarmed me. I offered to pay for the new exam, I do not like to take advantage, I just want to see. I highly recommend la Paz Optometric. I will be seeing them for another 30 plus years with the grace of God. From the moment we arrived, Dr. Truong treated my mother with the utmost respect, patience, and genuine care. She took the time to make sure my mother felt comfortable throughout the appointment and never rushed the process. It meant a lot to see a physician show that level of compassion and professionalism. Dr. Truong was also extremely thorough during the eye examination. She carefully evaluated my mother's vision and eye health and took the time to explain everything in a clear and helpful way. She provided a lot of valuable information that helped us better understand my mother's eye health and what to look out for moving forward. I'm usually here around November or December. The staff have a pumpkin design contest where they ask the clients/patients, to pick their favorite. The pumpkins were so nicely designed. I'm curious to see who wins. My first few minutes in the office was actually pretty fun. I think I might even make sure to come back in October next year. When I first walked in, I was immediately and happily greeted by, Johnathan. I instantly felt at home with him. Sarah, was the front desk/tech who worked with me to get my insurance card uploaded and then she took me back to do all the usual initial testing. The way these were set up in the room was very convenient. I literally rolled my chair from station to station. The equipment was clean and in good shape, not ancient. As soon as I was done with these, Sarah, took me to the exam room to wait for Dr. Walsh. Dr. Walsh, walked in and instantly said hello with a big smile on her face. I LOVE seeing her here in the office. She is so easy to talk to and is so personable. I feel like she really listens to me, to my concerns and my preference. It is always a pleasure to receive care from, Dr. Walsh. After my visit with, Dr. Walsh, I went right back to Johnathan. He came fully prepared with my insurance plan coverage. He explained everything clearly to me. He was animated, never boring, very knowledgeable and helpful with suggestions based on what I could afford as well as other options should I decide for something else. He even showed me the different types of transitions including the more advanced lenses available. He was quick without rushing me. He patiently answered my questions about insurance when I didn't understand what was going on. Overall, I had a wonderful experience with MVOC. I highly recommend them for their amazing service and many frame options.

(I had an eye doctor get frustrated with me during the exam process as a child, and I still get anxious thinking I am wasting their time if I ask her to show me the slides again.) I am aware this is a "me" problem, but a problem nonetheless, and Dr. Floyd calms me down by patiently showing me the slides again and not showing frustration so I don't get so nervous anymore. My prescriptions are always perfect for both contacts and glasses, and I look forward to hopefully being able to do LASIK with her someday. For such a sensitive procedure, I trust her completely. The front office staff I usually interact with (Sarah and Erica) are informative and helpful. Sarah usually conducts my pre-exam eye checks (puff of air, peripheral vision test, etc), and she is the BEST at distracting and moving through the tests quickly so that this is not tortuous like it always has been for me at other places. The frames here are gorgeous (name brands, lots of variety and sunglasses too), but you will not find a cheap pair of glasses here. I usually find a pair for under $300 to be specific. Insurance is key. The only reason I am giving 4 instead of 5 stats is because I wish the office had more of a welcoming feel- the overall tone is business first. This may work well for you because everyone is nice, professional and excellent at the medical side of their jobs. Appointments are quick, and I have never waited more than 5 minutes in the waiting room.

My sister-in-law recommended Laguna Eye Care and I now pay out of pocket just to get the care and service I want. Laguna Eye Care has state of the art diagnostic equipment. The optometrists are all extremely well trained and very friendly. The opticians and office staff are friendly and patient. I could go back to my covered provider but I wouldn't have the clear vision, peace of mind, customer service and quality of care. I have been wearing glasses since I was in 4th grade. Contacts since I was 16. I'm 61 now. I've had many years of experience dealing with optometrists. I've yet to find a better office than Laguna Eye Care. They check all the boxes for me!

However, the experience with the front desk/optometric technician has been consistently uncomfortable. I have visited three times, and each time I was made to feel "stupid" for asking basic questions. Rather than being helpful, the technician would give me a stare like I was a burden, which made me feel extremely unwelcome. Beyond the attitude, the technical service was disappointing. After waiting over a month for my Metas, they arrived and rested right on my cheeks (which the sample pair didn't do). When I raised this concern, the technician dismissively told me they are "universal frames" and offered no help. It feels like the measurements taken by the optician didn't matter. Now I have to buy my own nose bridge inserts to prevent the glasses from causing acne and skin irritations. I want to continue seeing Dr. Grichine, but the lack of kindness and technical support from the staff makes it very difficult to return.
