This is all after my appt was rescheduled two days prior - they say they called me and left a message, but I have no missed calls or messages from them. The lady at the front desk asked me for my name and phone number to "put me on the schedule." I told her that I was just looking and did not want an appointment. She pressed me further and told me that they wanted to know who is in the building, which seemed odd. So, I gave her my name and phone number. Then, she asked for my birthday. I'm more or less flabbergasted at this point, since the business is located in Orange Park, not Beverly Hills. I told her to just put down 1/1/2020. Another staff member came out to request my birthday because they want to know who is in the building. Good grief, do they have a lot of thefts in that area? I know there was plenty of $ to cover the charge But to get out of there I gave her my credit card and that declined . I asked If they could bill me . she said I would have to go to the bank and get the $ or give back the prescription. I'll obviously I gave it back. I told her there was plenty money in the account. My sister asked for help picking out hers and even though she was eligible to get transitions, the person that worked with her didn't include them and when we askef to have it fixed they advised there would be a charge even though our vsp plan states if we don't like them we can get a free pair within 30 days. Also, you cannot email a payment so, a la 1985, have to give over the phone or drive there. Then was told by CFEC employee, Eric, in very condensing holier than now voice, that he couldn't deal with me because I "was upset". With a recent change in insurance, I had to choose a new eye doctor in network. I found an in…read morenetwork location near my work and decided to schedule my annual check at Deerwood Family Eyecare. There was a wait, I expected that but I did not expect the sincere concern for my wait time that the entire staff expressed. They made it clear that this was not normally the case, and I knew that to be true. Once in, I was given my initial test before I saw Dr. Shearer. My tester was engaging, excited and seemed to really love her work. Once Dr. Shearer came in, he asked me a bit about myself and explained how he was the longest tenured eye doctor in Jacksonville. Totally put me at ease. When I explained to him that I had referrals to a specialist in the past for "large cups" or possible glaucoma, he explained that he had those devices on hand and that those tests could be done same day with results. What a load off my mind. This was done immediately after my new prescription was finished. The other part that was extremely impressive is that when he was testing me for a new prescription, he would make me stop and blink before deciding "better one or better two". This made a huge difference. I never had this happen before and it was crucial. The other little extra he does is show you your current prescription and then the new one. The staff was all familiar with the insurance coverage, how it worked and made suggestions based on that. That was extremely helpful as insurance can be tough to navigate. What started out being an anxious visit to a new doctor ended up being a blessing. Highly recommend Deerwood and Dr. Shearer for anyone searching for an eye doctor.
