I first went here because I had just experienced an ocular migraine (which I had never had before and it was very scary) and when I called, they got me an appointment for the very next morning, which I greatly appreciated. Dr. Houston was thorough in his exam and, thankfully, assured me it was just an ocular migraine and he educated me about them. My son sees Dr. J and she's great with kids and speaks to them in a way that is respectful, caring, and easy for them to understand. Also: we love the guy at the front desk, Gabriel! He is welcoming and helpful and always cheerful.

I guess I got weary of military grade frames and lenses. Also, I just wanted to have more options on eye care and potentially better technology for my examination. Well, there was one impressive machine that was a true upgrade from the normal dilations that required sunglasses for hours at a time. Even with the extra $35 fee, it was worth trying and I got to see the pics as Dr. Potochick explained what he saw on the screen. No dilation. No funky shield. And thankfully, all was good with my eyes - retina in good shape! 5 Points Eye Associates has been around for a long time, since 1976. Dr. Potochick has been there since 2008 - a well-seasoned veteran in his occupation! Very thoughtful, courteous, and he'll answer all your questions. I was very impressed with the treatment and attention I received there. After the exam, it was time to choose frames. Tabitha took care of me and we worked through about 20 lenses before narrowing them down to 5. Then after working through those 5, it was clear the Ray Ban was the winner! Rev now sports Ray Ban's for his daily eyewear! These glasses are comfortable, look great, and finally, I have progressive lenses! (The military doesn't offer progressives). I'm getting used to my new progressive lenses right now. Been good so far - at least writing this review with them on was pretty easy overall! I chose to write my review on 5 Points when the job was completed before rating and writing my review. I will say that I can recommend them highly. Picking them up today and their taking care of me with solid professionalism and seeing to the completion of being sure the glasses were going to work for me was very impressive. I encourage anyone who's looking for a solid eye care to visit 5 Points Eye Associates! Also, I love the building it's in. Originally, it was built as the Home Telephone Company in 1914 and 5 Points took custody in 1976. A lot of history in this building! It feels like a classic when you walk inside! Recommend: HIGH

There was a wait, I expected that but I did not expect the sincere concern for my wait time that the entire staff expressed. They made it clear that this was not normally the case, and I knew that to be true. Once in, I was given my initial test before I saw Dr. Shearer. My tester was engaging, excited and seemed to really love her work. Once Dr. Shearer came in, he asked me a bit about myself and explained how he was the longest tenured eye doctor in Jacksonville. Totally put me at ease. When I explained to him that I had referrals to a specialist in the past for "large cups" or possible glaucoma, he explained that he had those devices on hand and that those tests could be done same day with results. What a load off my mind. This was done immediately after my new prescription was finished. The other part that was extremely impressive is that when he was testing me for a new prescription, he would make me stop and blink before deciding "better one or better two". This made a huge difference. I never had this happen before and it was crucial. The other little extra he does is show you your current prescription and then the new one. The staff was all familiar with the insurance coverage, how it worked and made suggestions based on that. That was extremely helpful as insurance can be tough to navigate. What started out being an anxious visit to a new doctor ended up being a blessing. Highly recommend Deerwood and Dr. Shearer for anyone searching for an eye doctor.
