My vision needs are a little complicated because I wear bifocals. So when I went to the Pearlevision in Ardmore to get an exam, a prescription, and new glasses, I encountered some challenges with the first pair. I let the staff know I was having issues with the new lenses, and you know how it was handled? Professionally. I would use cool-sounding adjectives such as "committed" and "mission-focused" to describe my experience there. I ended up getting replacement lenses, and they worked much better. I'll be back for my next eye exam at the end of the year. :-) read more

This Pearle Vision is located in Suburban Square in Ardmore. It is accessible by SEPTA regional rail, and has plenty of parking in one of the lots around the shopping area. They have a nice selection of frames for women, men, and kids at decent prices. They have something for almost all budgets. Payment and fitting (is it called fitting) are pretty quick, but they can get short-staffed for the number of customers that shop there. Make sure they remember to center your eyes in the frames before sending them to the lab to add the prescription lenses. Try on the prescription when you pick it up. If they didn't center the vision properly in the lens, you'll be dizzy and need them to return the glasses to the lab for them to redo the entire prescription. This has happened to me twice (out of 2 visits...so both visits) at this location. They also offer eye exams, but I've never used this service with them. read more

I bought in a pair of sunglasses to convert to prescription sunglasses. the lenses keep popping out. they had to crazy glue it to the frame instead of sending it back and doing it right. don't get me started with the 2 women who work there. they start arguing with you over your insurance. like they know your insurance? quality and service are horrible. not worth your money or your time. read more

Dr. Hauler first messed up my contact rx, brought me back in and got it wrong a second time so ended up ordering the rx that I gave him from my previous optometrist. I then took his rx for glasses and ordered glasses (through warby parker). This was a total mistake as it is also not the right rx as evidenced by fact that I cannot see well (this is a simple, distance rx). Took me some time to first order glasses, then go back and confirm the lenses weren't the problem. I called back pearle vision and they want to charge me to recheck my rx bc its past 30 days. This is awful customer service and I will never go back here, he should stand by his work and recheck a situation that is very clearly his human error. I have come to Pearle Vision for many years and I have always had a positive experience. The staff here is so kind and helpful. The variety of items they have is amazing! Pearle Vision received major renovations this summer and it is even better now. The store is not large, but not too small. They have desks set up where the staff members sit. On the walls are the glasses. The selection of glasses here are fantastic! They have Nike, Ray Ban, Guess, Coach, Tori Butch and many more! They come in a variety of sizes including kids and many for adults. They also come in lots of colors! The staff members here are very well-trained and know what they are doing. They are able to provide you with style and/or for options. They also know how to give you an eye exam. If you come in and have any issues they take responsibility and will resolve it! I had a 3 PM appointment on a Wednesday, showed up 2:50 PM and was seated right away. Upon entering, I was asked COVID screening questions and temperature was taken. I was checked in immediately and escorted to the back where I met Dr. Hauler. He asked me to wash my hands while he looked over what we'd be doing and we started. I've worn contacts for 8 years now and wanted to use my VSP insurance before the year ends. I was there for a new patient exam and contact lens exam (they're separate). VSP fully covered the new patient exam but it was only 15% off the contact exam so I paid $55. Not bad considering all the other VSP preferred providers were booking out into mid-September (this was the earliest appointment I could find!). He was super thorough. He did the usual "1 or 2" exam and took my eye pressure with this cool contraption. My mom had an acute angle glaucoma episode earlier this year so he was very knowledgeable and patient as I asked him many questions about that. My favorite thing was that he didn't pressure me into buying anything. I've been wearing Acuvue Oasys contacts since I first got them 8 years ago and was open to trying a new brand. Walked out with a new pair of 2 week Cooper Vision Avaira Vitality and they're very comfortable! He gave me my prescription to take anywhere - what a friendly guy and a great experience. I have gone here for the past 20 years. Dr. Hauler is great. But it seems like all new people in the retail section. I have always bought my glasses here and if I needed a repair or resizing it was never a problem. I stopped in today and they were so unfriendly. They told me if THEY broke my glasses while tightening them it was on me!!! And they were popping out the lenses and being very aggressive. My glasses are not even a year old! Then they were cleaning the lenses with a PAPER TOWEL!! Scratch! So unprofessional! I don't think this will be my 'go to' place anymore. When you wear glasses forever like me, you need people who 'know you' - these people don't. read more

Since getting my cataract surgery (at a different eye dr office), I have had a lot of difficulty being able to see out of progressive lenses (which I had worn for years with no problems prior to having cataract surgery). I came to Pearle Vision back in April 2021 to see if they would be able to better solve the issue I was having with my new lenses (from old eye doctor office). I mostly worked with Tina, but the other gentlemen at this office are also very helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable. On my first visit, Tina fit me into their schedule and worked with me to research other lens possibilities. We rechecked everything the other doctor's office had done. She made phone calls and researched best possible progressive. We picked a progressive lens with widest possible channel of vision and during that purchase, Tina went above and beyond to get me the best pricing and make sure we were utilizing my insurance ... when discovered other office used this supplement insurance w/o my permission, Tina offered me a discount... again, always going above and beyond to be helpful. Today I stopped into Pearle Vision again. While the prescription I got in April serves me well out in the world, it still has a bit of a narrow vertical line of vision that gets in the way of my toggling between my art (aka reading prescription) and my computer (like arm's length distance vision), so I wanted a pair of at-home glasses that better allows me to move between detailed work on my desk and my computer screen and bifocals with full-width of vision on my lenses seems the best fit. Again, Tina checked and double-checked and asked me clarifying questions and helped me get what I needed. While I was pulling out my cc to pay, she noticed my medical insurance (not my supplemental eye insurance) and she notified me I might have discounts on my medical policy ... I had NO idea!! She was right! So, she saved me $$$!!! Had she not been proactive in checking my medical insurance, she was going to give me a discount (since other office misused my supplemental policy). Finally, in my trial and error of figuring out how to see post-cataract, I quickly visited with Dr. Hauler to reconfirm my prescription from the other office. He was also friendly, personable and knowledgeable while taking care to help me address my needs. I will be going to this office for all future eye care needs and can't recommend highly enough this eye care office and its entire staff, but especially Tina. read more

I went there to get my glasses because they covered my insurance. I told them I wanted a glass with light shade they said ok. I ended up getting a sun glass. I tried to return it to get a regular glass they again made me a sunglass. I wanted to return it the staff got angry at me telling me I'm wrong. I just wanted regular eye glass. They can't do the simplest thing. This is the worst experience I ever had in my life. I'm giving 3 stars to split the difference between the wonderful Dr. Hauler and the terrible store service. I'd give the doctor 5 stars -- thorough, professional, excellent. But I'd never buy glasses there again. When they came in, the woman handed me the filthy pair and asked if I could see crisply. I said no because the lenses were so dirty she took them back, looked at them and expressed surprise at their condition, and cleaned them. She handed them back and I said I could indeed see clearly. She said great, have a nice day. It was my turn for surprise because I have never gotten glasses without the technician checking the fit and usually adjusting the ear pieces a little etc. But I thought I would see how they worked. After a day or so of pushing them back up on my nose, I went back in for an adjustment. The woman did not look at all to see how they were fitting, took them and adjusted them without any concern to actual fit, and returned them without looking to see how the adjustments fit my head/face. They feel off but once again I felt dismissed despite expressing unsureness about the new fit. And indeed, I now will take the half an hour drive each way to the next nearest Pearle vision place to get them adjusted by someone who takes a look at what they are doing and how they fit. I deeply regret getting my glasses there, although not the appointment. read more

Spent over $500.00 on new glasses and an eye exam. To be fair, I had a good experience with this purchase. Later I decided that I wanted to order a 2nd pair (elsewhere) that was less expensive for home. They refused to give me my measurements saying they weren't required by law to hand any of that data over to me. I could see how this would make sense if I had only had an eye exam, but I paid for an exam AND glasses there and they wouldn't provide the information to me. Their less than ethical business practices would prevent me from ever buying anything there again, or going in for another eye exam. You should consider a site like Warby Parker if you haven't tried them. Service is impeccable and pricing is much better. read more

Received horrible customer service at this Ardmore location. Went in for an eye exam, which was fine and Dr. Hauler was professional during the exam. But I told the dr at the exam that I had no contacts left and that I needed a pair quickly to be able to drive. He promised my trial pair with my new script would be in within 3 days. Waited ten days never heard from them so I finally called only to find out that no contacts had been ordered for me at all. I understand that mistakes happen for new clients but when I asked the person I reached on the phone if he could get the dr to dispense something close to my script that they had in stock until they could order the ones they were supposed to have ordered almost two weeks ago, he said he couldn't and that the dr was the only one who had my script so I just had to wait till the dr came back from hiking in the remote wilderness - !! He was rude and insolent when I asked if there was anything g we could do in Dr. Hauler's absence -- saying he couldn't write me a script (when I'd never asked him to, I'd simply asked for his help in dealing with the mistake made so I could get through the weekend and actually drive). I know there is a dr there today in Dr. Hauler's absence since my son saw her (she only works Thursdays) and I'm wearing contacts now that work fine so if this person I spoke to had wanted to help me he could have offered to bring Dr. Hauler's oversight to the attention of the dr on site today to see if she could find a lens they had in stock close to my old script to get me through the long Labor Day weekend. I do monovision so my lens script is always undercorrected for one eye anyway, my old Dr used to always be able to give me something in a pinch even if it corrected for distance only and not for reading and distance combined. When I was in the office the first time I'd heard a loud argument this worker had with a different client so I'm guessing after our conversation today that he has some sort of difficulty dealing with the public -- which is fine to employ someone who is challenged in this way, but why put that person as the only one in the office in charge of ordering for and interacting with customers if they can't deal with customers nicely and if they can't problem-solve when something goes amiss on the part of the doctor? Furthermore, why doesn't Dr. Hauler have my script on file at the office for anyone to access in his absence? Is he waking out of the office with new client's paper files as this person told me, making it impossible for anyone else in the office to know what he'd prescribed during my recent eye exam? I have never written a negative review before but this lack of professionalism when dealing with something as important as vision -- and allowing a customer to go with her vision uncorrected for driving over a holiday weekend -- are simply things I feel should be brought to the public's attention. *NOTE: To be fair I will say that my experience with another person (Paul) at this location was great, he was very knowledgeable and very helpful/patient when I was picking out a new frame. Paul also figured out that I was wearing contact lenses that didn't correspond with the prescription of my current glasses, which shows much knowledge on his part -- and took the initiative of calling my insurance to help out for their approval of new charges and to find out what my plan paid for. There is also a woman at this Ardmore location who was very good and patient with my teenage son teaching him to put in his new lenses -- but why Dr. Hauler doesn't hire someone competent for customer service and/or give the job of ordering new lenses and dealing with the public exclusively to Paul or another qualified individual who understands the responsibility of providing consistent care even in the doctor's absence is beyond me. read more

The customer service here is awful. I scheduled a regular eye exam recently, knowing full well that my insurance would cover it. A very patronizing employee (sounds like he hates his life) called me a couple days ago to tell me that in fact my insurance would NOT be covered, without providing any explanation as to why. When I asked that he double-confirm this was the case - in follow-up I did the same on my end, with my insurance provider, to prove indeed it DID cover - he said he couldn't help me and hung up. I'm in disbelief this guy still has a job. Got an appointment with another optometrist down the street - haven't even been yet and I already have better confidence. Glad I dodged this bullet, rather than dealing with such unpleasant reps in person. read more

Living near by, this location has been just convenient in the past years. I have purchased a couple pairs of glasses here in the past few years along with a couple eye exams. This location will no longer be receiving my service and here is why: Most recently I stopped in to look at the Sun Glasses selection to see if I could purchase a pair of Ray Bans with my prescription, I was immediately greeted by the body odor smell that the store has maintained for the past few years which is besides the point, any way I found a pair of glasses in which I wanted to purchase but the ones on display were scuffed and scratched, even if they were not dmamaged, I would like to purchase glasses that a number of people have not touched. The employee was extremely unhelpful and seemed un eagar to make a sale, said that he could have them ordered to the store but it would take a few weeks. a store will only exceed if the employees are enthusiastic and helpful toward their customers to help the business thrive. I decided to take my business else where and went right down the street to Optical Unique in Ardmore, where they had a nice selection of Ray Bans which were new and untouched upon my buying them and took my insurance as well (unlike Pearle Vision), employees were pleasant and helpful. read more
