I've lived at the Pearl Studios since 2015. I love the location. Studios are close to hospitals, Safeway, 3 parks and lots of cool food. The studios are small, but with a little creativity you can make them work. Residents are friendly and have a feeling of community. I've been thru several managers and office staff. The total staff we have presently are very dedicated to keeping the place clean, repaired and open communication with the residents. I recently had to leave the area. I was here for 2 1/2 years and enjoyed the apartment the entire time. The apartments are well maintained and they do a good job of keeping the buildings and property clean. By far the best thing was the office staff. Alex and the others have been outstanding with any questions or issues that did come up. Alex by far deserves special recognition for helping out during a family emergency that forced me to move out of state. I've lived at " The Pearl Studios since 2015. overall it has been a very good experience. we have had lots of management changes, but the last change has been the best overall. Alex has taken a hold of these apts with a dedication and energy That has been unmatched.Recently I had to change apts for health reasons. Alex worked tirelessly to get new apt ready and leases changed so I had nothing to worry about but healing from surgery. The grounds and buildings have been cleaner and maintained better than before. Moved out in January, never heard a word from them. Six months later they sent a balance with a lot of fees that are not itemized or make any sense directly to collections agency. Never tried to reach out to me to work this out I was leaving under the impression that I was paid up and everything was settled. Six months later, I'm receiving calls from a collection agency. They are supposed to reach out to me within 31 days to settle it between us before setting it to a collection agency on top of this, The building is disgusting. Smells like dirty dogs and has all sorts of people running through it all night. Stay away from here if you want to keep your money and your sanity. read more

I lived at Pearl Studios for almost 2 years and I can say that it is a pretty decent place to live the property manager. Lindsay Grippo is amazing at communicating with tenants in regards to alternate concerns as well as issues with payments etc.. They have been very lenient with those who are applying for rental assistance, but there are some downsides to living at this residence for starters the water sewer garbage is not a flat rate it is extremely expensive and probably one of the highest utility bills you will have for a studio a bit size the area is pretty great, but there is quite a bit of homeless people in the area the garbage disposal area is pretty bad, veey dirty tenants disposing of their furniture items in there and you being charged for what's in there due to the way that they processed the water suit garbage bills . The neighbors are really friendly. If you are someone that works early mornings this might not be the place for you because sometimes the nightlife on the weekends can get pretty loud for where this property is located. There's also quite a bit of up and down turnover rates with the office. You will find different managers and assistants. there is always someone new in the office in there throughout the month so sometimes you may not get the same communication from the same person. They don't really respond to all the emails but again they do assist you with all concerned if you're speaking with Lindsey Grippo. I would recommend this place if you are someone who doesn't have much furniture or who has a small dog it's not that spacious for what you're paying but if you go through a locked lease there's a good chance you'll get a lock the price I unfortunately did not experience this. overall, I'm very glad that I had the opportunity to live here. It definitely taught me a lot about utilities and paying rent and what's important when moving in certain areas. i wouldnt move here again read more

DO. NOT. MOVE. HERE. Things were great, as you can see on my original review, however this place took a HUGE nosedive. Coffee machine. Gone. I was told it cost $3000 a month to run. I doubt that. But whatever it was a freebie right? Garbage. Everywhere. The garbage room is always in shambles. It's a mix of not enough dumpster space plus the fact that everyone who lives here is a pig. The garbage room is always overflowing with trash all over the floor. A mattress was left in a stairwell for 3 weeks, management knew about it, did nothing. Disgusting. Smoking? It's all indoors. We smell cigarette and weed smoke inside the building on a daily basis. We complained a lot but got little traction. There are connected vents so it gets everywhere. Gross. AirBnB? They're here. Multiple rooms being rented out, strangers have access to the building. Very unsafe. Laundry facilities? DISGUSTING! These machines are never cleaned and the renters here are dirty as hell. Hair, dirt, trash, etc. All in the machines. I have to spend 10 minutes cleaning out a nasty machine before I use it. This is all assuming that there's a machine open as people just leave their stuff in them and management will yell at you for pulling out someone's laundry after it's sat for an hour with no open machines. Doors? Broken. Lounge sat inaccessible for over a week (also someone apparently took a pee in there are it still smells of it), front building door often goes out locking you out in the cold at night until someone coming out can let you in. Their key fob reader just stops working at night almost daily. They know, they don't care. Section 8? YEUP! They have begun moving in those in rehab, the recently homeless, and a whole slew of low-income housing-voucher people. This place has gone to hell in a hand basket. Overall this place is a pig pen. Do not bother unless you love it dirty. read more

300 square foot studio? Not much of an issue. I was a little hesitant moving in as I imagined the square footage akin to a jail cell. When touring the place seemed very small. These worries were erased once I finally moved my things in. It seemed a lot bigger once I plopped my mattress in. In fact for one person, it is even a little more space than I need, the perfect size. A small decent balcony on top of that for storage and fresh air. Pretty courtyards with BBQs. Everything is clean and brand new. The apartment offers wi-fi for its residents, I clocked it at 3mpbs download speeds. Really fancy stainless steel electric stove, large convection microwave, big oven, granite counters, spacious fridge. There's a cool ceiling fan, good natural light with the balcony door and window. Tiled floors on the kitchen and bathroom separates it from the nicely carpeted living area. Fob entry into the apartment itself. The staff is very friendly and nice. Packages get picked up at the main office, plus the standard mailbox. The place is always quiet (almost too quiet); it looks like people are always out having lives. Air conditioned hallways, game room, laundry room with machines that can text/email you, lounge with TV. Cons, no built-in closet so all your clothes are out to hang. The Pearl area is hit-or-miss for people (really does everyone have a dog???), but it's at the north edge near the Fremont Bridge. There's a bit of food, Safeway, OfficeMax nearby. The cars sounds are nice as white noise to make it easy to sleep. Construction noise in the morning wakes me up "naturally" for work, like it or not. So far enjoying it. Perfect if you're living alone, though it has enough room for a couple people to sleepover. read more

The staff here at Pearl Studios is amazing. Two individuals, Dru & Emmie shine bright in the front office. They are very helpful and do whatever they can to make sure they address and fix my issue or point me in the right direction. They just joined the team about a month ago and I haven't seen them stop moving yet. With them being so busy I did not think they would be able to assist as well as they have been. I have loved my time here so far. The small space was a little disconcerting at first. But with some creativity, it's easy to make the space livable and enjoyable. Plus, it feels great to live simply. You really can't beat the rent for the location. You're in walking distance to everything in the Pearl. Also, there is not enough to say about the management. I've been at the Freedom Center since day one, and they have constantly gone above and beyond to help me out in any capacity. Truly grateful. read more

I have lived here for 2 weeks and am loving the location and low rent cost. The places are small, but the feeling of living a minimalistic lifestyle cannot be beat. Anthony has been on through many management changes (and the last one for the better- shout out to Lindsey and Carlos!). He is consistently kind, prompt and his work is 100% solid. If follow up is needed, he's always available. And to top it off, he's always sweet to my little dog. Recently I had to have my dishwasher replaced, and he stayed with me while I tested it, discovered an issue with the water flow through the hose, and fixed it before leaving. We had several problems with Pearl Studios but the main issue they all boil down to is a lack of proper, standardized communication. When there is a problem, management will (sometimes) post a note about it on each apartment door notifying tenants (these notes also have spelling mistakes in them which doesn't make them unreadable but does beg questions about oversight). These note provide very little warning, including once when they shut down laundry for over a week without giving us even 24 hours notice. They sometimes don't fix things, even when they do acknowledge them - a door on the hallway below ours was missing the handle for the last three months we lived there, and the note said they would have it fixed in 2 weeks. The key fob system is unreliable at best, inoperable more often. We regularly would have to try both of ours, another door, or wait for someone else with a functioning fob, and this was just seen as standard. Overall, this was a terrible experience. read more

I'm about to move in here, and really excited. I'm writing about their customer service, though. Hope was amazing--I had a nightmare screening process with my application, with my previous apartments not getting back with verification of my stay there. She put up with at least 15 calls from me checking to see if the application had gone through, probably had 8 different conversations with the screening company, and eventually got me moved in. It's rare to find people that courteous, and it turned me from nearly selecting another place to being relieved that I could live where I wanted and excited about the move. read more

Freedom center made moving in very easy, even from far away and not knowing the city. The apartments are ideally located in the Pearl with easy access to public transit, which was great for us since we did not want to have a car. There is so much going on in this area it is amazing. From great restaurants and cafes to having a gym only 2 blocks away. There are also several beautiful parks just around the corner, the location truly cannot be beat. The apartments are brand new and well designed, my only knock on them would be the closet area, aside from that everything was great. The 2 common rooms, one with a pool table, arcade and flat screens is great for watching a game and once a month they have a party. The lounge is very comfortable to relax and watch a movie. Danya, the manager, was very helpful and friendly in all matters concerning the apartment and community activities. read more

Pros: The apartments are small but livable, with nice appliances. Very close to restaurants, transportation, many different gym, rock climbing, yoga facilities. Pet friendly. Nice gameroom with pool table and free coffee. Cons: Ever since I have moved here there has been noisy construction going on. Trucks blocking the streets. NO parking. During the day the parking under the bridge is always full and expensive. Freedom center does not have onsite parking. Homeless are always camping out by the parking lots next door, cars getting broke into. etc. The key fobs to get into the building are constantly malfunctioning. I have been locked out of the building several times waiting for someone to open the door. My bike was stolen from their 'secure' storage room. And their cameras just happened to be not recording at that time. What a coincidence. Noise: Between the CONSTANT construction and NOISY freeway don't expect any quiet time. Even if you close all your doors and windows you can still hear the freeway and construction. Grounds: The facilities and grounds is pretty well kept up. Clean. Safety: Plenty of lighting, upkeep of landscaping. Neighborhood: Super close to everything. Streetcar, Gyms, Restaurants. Maintenance: The one time they came into my apartment to upgrade lights and fixtures they left my door unlocked... Staff: Staff changes a lot. Would not recommend if you own a car or want a quiet place to live. read more

My experience at Pearl Studios was an overall poor one to say the least. Originally looking for an affordable living space in the Pearl District, I landed on this living space back in early May of 2019, beginning my lease in June 2019. To get right to the point, I recently was forced to break my lease a little before the end of my contract due to an issue with cigarette smoke in my apartment. After I had given notice of the issue to the property management both in-person and in writing, it quickly became clear that they were not going to do help find any sort of remedy to this issue. I began smelling cigarette smoke as early as January 2020, but the smoke steadily became more and more potent as my time continued throughout the months of February & March 2020. As a resident of the community, I made a point to speak with someone who lived near me that was a regular smoker. He & I seemed to come to a resolution initially, but the issue of smoke in my apartment did not seem to let up. I communicated the issue of smoke to property management back in March, but they failed to address the issue to make the space what I believed to be a habitable living environment. Unfortunately during this crisis, I thought that the property management would make efforts to address this issue as quickly as possible, understanding that people who are exposed to things like cigarette smoke can make them more susceptible to other infections, such as the well-known COVID-19 virus. When I finally told them I needed to break the lease because my stress and my health have been compromised, they decided to pin the vacancy of the remainder of the lease on me saying I never provided them with adequate notice. I also was NOT given notice that they would allow something as serious as smoke funnel into my apartment and do nothing about it, making this apartment an inhabitable living environment. I've luckily since been able to move into a much better living space that provides the most basic needs for someone to sleep at night without having to worry about getting sick, and missing work days because of it (referring to myself). Though I did have some positive experiences at Pearl Studios during my time there, this unfortunately was handled terribly on their part--I would urge anyone and everyone who is interested in this space to consider the potential issues that you may run into should you move to Pearl Studios. read more

The leasing office has horrible customer service. I was promised a balcony when I moved here and then was given a unit with no balcony at all. Packages can only be delivered to the office and they never stick to their regular hours which results in multiple redeliveries and if the weather is bad, forget it. The office will close for whatever reason they want. Very. Frustrating. I once had medication locked in the office for three days because it snowed and when I contacted the management office they never responded. The units themselves are cute and comfortable but the customer service makes it not worth while. The only person working here that is nice is the maintenance guy, he's amazing. read more

This is my second time editing this review. I left a negative review when I had some issues with the previous manager, but after a shift in management they helped me work out the problems I was having. I still stand by that these units are too small, but for the locale it is a pretty much a bargain. The rent has been skyrocketing in Oregon, so this is a very good spot to live in. I was going to leave this at a 3 star review, but I bumped it up to 4 because the neighbors at the Freedom Center redeem any frustrations you might have with the size of the unit. I moved elsewhere since then and I realized how much I appreciated the tenants at Freedom Center. People are respectful of noise, since the units are small, and they are easy to talk to since the building draws a younger crowd. I've made many friends at the Freedom Center that I still talk to, and I cannot say the same for my current location. read more

It is a great little location in the pearl district if you are looking for affordability. The staff are always looking to better your experience, which is great. I LOVE the no pet rent.
