Go to the counter and order your choices for the meat and 2(3). The menu is on the board above the register. Get your number and find a seat. They will call your number and bring the deliciousness to you. We had the fried chicken with Mac and Cheese, green beans and spicy cornbread. Couldn't eat it all the portions very generous. Simply amazing!! The best fried chicken I have had since my grandmother passed away. If you are in Laurel, MS (or anywhere close) this is a must stop. Get in line, order at the counter and then enjoy every bite. The chicken is double breaded, fried to a golden brown sealing in the incredible flavor and juiciness. The sides are not fancy but they are definitely delicious. The staff work their tails off and take pride in serving each customer promptly. I just wish they were closer to my 'hometown'. read more

Great food and personable service! Due to us not paying attention to the hours posted on the door, we walked in just at closing time after lunch hours but the staff insisted we order and stay, just as they did with another couple that walked in before we did. Everyone was very friendly and did not limit the menu despite having already begun cleaning the kitchen. We live in another part of MS so we're accustomed to good southern food and Pearl's diner did not disappoint at all. Excellent fried chicken and vegetables! If you come here expect to wait in line. We arrived 20 min before the doors opened and waited for about an hour to order. Everyone says this place is the bomb. Southern comfort food is on the menu. I going to find out. I ordered the rib dinner with green beans, Mac and cheese, with rice and gravy. The ribs were ok. Lot of cartilage in them. Ribs I usually get at my usual location down leave this. Having said that, the meat fell off the bone. This was good. Mac and cheese was ok. Nothing to brag about. Same for the rice and gravy. This needed more seasoning. Now the green beans... these were awesome. Probably the best I've EVER eaten. I could have eaten another sitting. For dessert I got Ms. Pearl's cheesecake. This too was awesome. One of the best I've ever eaten. Way better than Jello's cheesecake...lol. Overall, the experience was commercialized. I was expecting such a great meal and a great experience based on the things I saw on the show. The food was over priced for the tiny amount that you got and had no flavor. Besides that it was served on styrofoam plates, and it just wasn't what I expected. I had the fried chicken and it was just alright. My friend had the pork chop and I was almost done eating by the time she got her food and then it was so tough she could barely chew it. We left hungry. I wouldn't go here again. read more

I read the reviews for Pearl's on Facebook and yelp as we drove to Laurel today from east Texas. We missed eating there last year because of our late arrival. So I made CERTAIN we would arrive in time today. Y'all. Those leaving the negative reviews do not speak my language. My lunch today reminded me of being a kid and the amazing food my grandma and family members always served at gatherings. I had the fried chicken, and it was perfectly crisp on the outside and flavorful all the way through without dripping with grease. I was truly amazed. The macaroni and cheese, Lima beans, cornbread, and black eyed peas were perfection. The servings are ample and sufficient for a $12.99 meal. I kept seeing the derogatory comments regarding serving size. My husband had hamburger steak, and it was delicious and served with brown gravy. He had brown gravy and rice along with black eyed peas and Lima beans. You would have thought we were imitating that scene from when Harry met Sally with our comments and sounds of approval. The sweet tea was southern perfection. Not too weak and just enough sweet. We finished off with banana pudding which did not disappoint. Our total came to around $42 for two plates with meat and 3 sides each, 2 servings of banana pudding, and two sweet teas. Ordering is not confusing; it couldn't be any simpler. You do need to understand that you don't go sit at table before placing your order. Order first, get number, then find a seat. The staff was attentive and I'm assuming the man coming to our table was Pearl's son. He was genuinely hospitable. I believe the owner was sitting in the booth next to us. If you love Pearl's show some love! Leave a review! When reading reviews...keep an open mind as not everyone has the same food love language. If you want true southern cooking this is the place. We even got to speak to Pearl and her son who was so attentive to our needs we felt special. The fried chicken was so delicious could have eaten the bone! The sides were wonderful Mac and cheese, collards, candied yams, crowder peas oh my can't wait to come back. This was a great little diner! I had seen it on the Home Town HGTV show and heard good reviews. It did not disappoint! The line was long but the staff was super friendly. Decided to try this place after seeing Ben and Erin mention it on one of their videos. We were welcomed as we walked in and had high hopes for the food. We had the fried chicken, Mac & cheese and spicy corn bread. Surprised by all the high praise for the food as we felt it was average and not as wonderful as reviews led us to think. Corn bread wasn't spicy at all but maybe we were given regular and not spicy by accident but tasted like a regular muffin. Mac & cheese was ok as was the chicken. Most of the items listed on their online menu and window are only available on certain unstated days. Plates and silverware were all plastic disposables. We never even made it to the counter to order. We were sooooo looking forward to eating here and when we entered the diner we were told to get in line. Not a problem, however, my husband has Parkinson's. We asked if he could be seated while I ordered our food. We were told he could sit but there was no guarantee that we would be seated at that table. The man was not kind, caring or courteous. We left. As we shared our experience with locals we were told the staff is not concerned about return guests since the tourist are frequenting the diner. They want you in, eat, pay and go. So sad. read more

I used to love going here and the food is always soooo good when we do go, but the last time I was there, one of the employees made me feel very stupid and was kind of rude to me.
