Dwight was my doctor for over seven years. I trusted him and was treated nicely. The problems started when he moved to Peachtree Street. Because of his attitude, I learned not to trust him anymore, and I walked out of my last appointment because he was harsh, rude, and dismissive. This did a lot of damage. Worse experience ever. You get in the room, sit 5 meters away from the doctor. He comes in, sit in front of his computer. ask you a generic set of questions(or tell you to fill a quiz) and type your responses. Then he gives you a medication. That's it! Dwight Owens never seemed to have a genuine concern for my well-being the whole time I attended his practice. Apart from never looking at me he would never really seem bothered about what I had to say. He would only ask me polite questions and try to act social when student doctors were present. Any other time he would be asking me text book questions just to check the boxes if you know what I mean. He kinda seemed fake to me. I originally went to his practice to get anxiety medication I started taking when I was in university to help me concentrate on my work, I wasn't depressed, thought suicidal thoughts or anything. I have always been a happy person and enjoy life. After a second opinion from another professional I was told Dwight Owens wrongly diagnosed me with Bi-Polar disorder. Since then I stopped taking my medication I had been taking since school and also the very highly priced Abilify Dr Owens put put me on, I haven't felt better since I came off that crap. Now I'm not taking medication I have no need to see Dr Owens any more. Since stopping going I haven't received one phone call from his practice asking why I missed my appointments and stopped going to see him. More reason for me to believe he doesn't really care about his patients. Its all about the money...when he tries to sell you his new book you will see exactly what I mean. So really I'm better off without going there where I was out of pocket $200+ each month, not to mention not having to wait two hours to see him whenever I had an appointment. Oh, and dont even think about sniffing, coughing or sneezing in the waiting room, youl be asked to leave promptly by one of his assistants. Do your research before booking an appointment to see Dr. Owens. He is EXTREMELY unprofessional and loud. My biggest fear is the fear of being judged and this guy judged me before he ever sat down to get to know me. I spent 1 hour with his medical staff taking drug test, blood pressure, test, etc. The 2nd hour was spent talking to his NP before she went and got him from the office next door. He walked in the room wearing sweat pants and sweat shirt and before he asked me any questions he started yelling at me regarding my medications I've been on for 10+ years. He was so loud that the entire office could hear him shouting that he needs a medical clearance to treat me. As I told his assistants, I just moved to Georgia 1 month ago. He said because of taking adderall for ADHD it's no wonder I need Lunesta which is ridiculous. I work in the medical field and I would never make that kind of assumption about anyone until I had a chance to get to know them and their background. He continued to talk over me for 15 minutes until I asked him what the resolution is to move forward. He said he needed an EKG before he could treat me. My blood pressure was higher than normal because I was 1 1/2 hours getting back to work and wasted MY time to see a doctor that degraded me in front of his entire office. My first time visiting the doctor, I waited over two hours past my appointment time in a room while listening to the doctor make personal calls, to then finally be told by the doctor himself that he refused to see me. Was horrified at how horrible I was treated and probably having to dispute their claim as they said they are charging me anyway despite not providing me with any service. I highly recommend trying to find other doctors first. I was looking for someone soon and got a next day appointment... when all other doctors had a 3-4 week wait. Maybe I am not the only client he's treated so poorly if his schedule is so open. read more

I asked for a copy of my medical records from my time seeing him and was told be the receptionist that the fee for my medical records were $150.00. So after I got finish cursing her out about her crooked ass employer I hung up and now I want to see something happen. This can't be legal. Something has to be done. I wonder how many people he hasn't helped but received money from insurance companies. I'm not done with this yet!!! read more

I have been seeing Dr. Owens for a little over 2 yrs now. I appreciate who he is and his honesty. There has not been a time that I have had to wait or made to feel uncomfortable. He is very attentive, and he wasn't in a hurry to medicate me either. He wanted to get to the root of the problem first. I appreciate the staff as well. read more

My daughter and I have been seeing Dr. Owens for over 12 years. He has been the best thing that has happened to us!!!! Always very helpful, honest and straightforward, Dr. Owens will help you confront and conquer situations that seem hopeless. He may not always say what you want to hear, but what he says is always truthful. For those that are looking for pill pushers or someone to coddle you, stay away. The rudest and most disorganized office I have ever encountered. I was recommended to Dr. Owens via my Insurance Carrier. I called to make an appointment. Was able to get an appointment within 24 hours...which to me is a little odd considering with most first time Therapists, there is a 2-3 week wait to be seen. Unfortunately, I was called to work on the morning of my appointment. I immediately called Dr. Owens office to explain and asked if I could reschedule. A male picked up the phone and said that someone would call me back with when I could reschedule. Not sure why he would need to call me back, but whatever. 5 hours went past and I never received a call back. I called the office and an older extremely rude lady picked up the phone. I asked if I could reschedule and she gave me a flat out, "NO!" There was no explanation or anything. I then asked, "So, I cannot reschedule for another day or time?" and she again responded with, "No. You missed your appointment once and Dr. Owens refuses to see patients who do not respect his time." He nor his staff clearly has no understanding of Customer Service and Respect! I highly recommend NOT seeing this Joke of a Psychiatrist! read more

UNPROFESSIONAL, In my opinion. I saw this doctor for a evaluation scheduled by the Veterans Administration and found him to be condescending and arrogant in his questioning. He seemed to use a printed list of questions and did not want to hear anything other then what HE wanted to here. I felt like I was there wasting his time although I'm sure he was being paid well for his evaluation. He has a chair in his office that says "FOR DOCTOR OWENS - ONLY" Go to his website where he has pictures of himself that makes him look like a Rapper Want-to-be. To All: As a health care professional I was very disappointed and turned off by Dr. Dwight Owens lack of quality, organization, care, and professionalism. I recently moved to Atlanta and wanted to continue my medical care with a psychiatrist and unfortunately I found myself at Dwight's office. 1. It took the receptionist a week to call me back and schedule an appointment after I spoke with her the following week to schedule something. when she called I had forgot who she was. 2. When I was there, Dwight is apart of a midlevel marketing coffee scheme and in which he has trained his staff to promote the product. The whole time I was there and being checked in the staff spoke about the coffee and pushed the idea of me purchasing some. 3. Before hand, after the young lady called me back a week later, as a health care professional and very familiar with the steps that need to be took, I explained to the lady what I was looking to accomplish and she at no point explained the need for me to take additional steps or that there would be more to the process. 4. After the fact, Dwight apologized and simply blamed his staff and assured me she would be written up (which I did not want). come to find out the young lady charged me the wrong co payment and actually I owed more so then he tried to collect more money. After I refused to pay the additional $100 for my visit that was not explained to me before hand he simply said he would bill me and my insurance for the rest Ultimately, I strongly do not recommend this doctor. There are several doctors out there and plenty of choices other than Dwight owens. I went in there looking for a solution and instead left with a head ache and a waist of time. Don't waste your time. I have NEVER dealt with a more unprofessional doctor in my life. You would think a person who deals in mental health would know how to control his emotions but nope! Arrogant, easily agitated, rude and disrespectful. Here is my experience- on 11/30/18 i visited dr Owens to discuss my mental health concerns. Mistake #1- dr Owens is in the business of mental health medication and not therapy. So, i go Thru a urine test and a series of iPad questions with his assistant with the aim of getting a diagnosis. After i am done, the doctor comes in and talks to me for no more than 10 mins and tells me that i suffer from anxiety and ADHD. During this visit we get into a small disagreement but that's expected; this is a psych visit and emotions fly. I let that go. Fast forward to today- i get an email statement for $655 and a NEW DIAGNOSIS which was not discussed during the visit. Huge, stressful diagnosis. So i call to ask what the oversight was all about and he insults me by saying "you have a lot going on and you probably didn't hear me" also he says "we were going to discuss it in detail in your next visit". Sir, how does one overlook hearing a diagnosis as serious as the one i read this am?!?! Then i said "with all due respect, there is no way i would have missed that" and he responds "well if u don't like my services there are a lot of doctors in this building and in Atlanta that you can visit" The nerve! How do you do less of your responsibilities and become emotional when called to the carpet. RUN FROM THIS GUY. He is not here to help you get better. read more

Stay away. (PONZI SCHEME version of a Dr office). If you are looking to find a healthcare provider who has your best interest at heart. He's not the one. The front office staff is the only good thing about the office. It is very difficult to find not a good but just a decent mental health professional and psychiatrist. This office was the worst experience ever. I scheduled my appointment online a week in advance after not receiving any type of confirmation I contacted the office. They advised me to come in that day at 1:30pm. I waited in the waiting room with a lot of other patients(He's the only MD at this office). I waited 40 minutes until being called back.The Medical assistant weighs me and takes my blood pressure(most likely just so they can bill for it) she tells me to take a drug test. (another money hungry scheme). I refused. I go into a room with some guy asking me questions from an iPad (probably another scam so they can bill insurance). Asked to take a drug test again (so they can make sure anything they gives me doesn't interact with something I am currently taking) LIESS theres absolutely no way you're going to get detailed drug test like that before the end of this office visit. Dr. Owens comes in STANDS UP the whole time and talks to me for 4-5 minutes thats being generous. Tells me to come back the following week. GIVES NO INSIGHT NO DIRECTION NOTHING! Put they billed my insurance 680.00 which is very HIGH. Its not an average or fair charge at all. I will not be returning I decided that when the initial visit concluded. read more

This office is terrible! I picked this guy from a list provided by my insurance company. I showed up to my first appointment this morning without my insurance card because I'm still waiting for the insurance company to mail it to me. I had my member number, group number, driver's license and number to insurance customer service, but they refused to honor my appointment without this card. The male receptionist was very rude and said they had no way to verify who I was without the insurance card. I told him I needed to see the doctor because I needed medication refilled. He could not have cared less. On top of that, the "uniform" there is blue jeans and bright red shirts!!! Are you kidding me? You serve people with mental health issues and your staff wears bright red, which incites anger and violence. Clearly, this "doctor" is a complete idiot and needs to change careers. read more

I called to make an appointment. The receptionist put me down for my appointment. She asked me if i knew where they are located. I told her, "No but i will get it off your website. What is your website?" Her response was, "I dont know the website. I haven't been here long and no one asked me that before. Please hold." Then, Dr. Owen comes to the line and tells me that they do not have time to go back and forth with me when they have other patients on hold waiting for my appt. He gave me the website and told me my appointment will be canceled and I can call back if I decide I'm ready to make an appointment. He was VERY RUDE! I told him i only wanted the website so I can locate them. He was still rude and told me my appointment is canceled and to go look at his profile and do some research before I decide to call and make an appointment. Very unprofessional! Very rude! And the receptionist was not knowledgeable! I was put on hold seceral times and different people kept coming to the line. I will not be calling back! read more

After reading several of the other post I went in this office today completely terrified. this was my first c and p exam, and reading the other comments I thought my God this man must be a monster.......... I found quite the opposite to be true. his staff was very friendly. The doctor himself seemed fairly knowledgeable, and more than willing to help me get my claim processed quickly, and accurately. I would also like to note as a veteran suffering from ptsd he did not force me into having to painfully relive my experiences, in other words he was to the point. and as far as the music in the lobby lol it was more like jazzy blues not some death rock like described in other post. I wish I had read Melanie's review prior to seeing Dr Owens. He has the bedside manner of a brick and thats an insult to the brick. I visted his office recently as a new patient and it was chaos right out of the gate. As I completed my new patient packet, I could hear Dr Owens berate his staff. Aftering chewing on their souls, he walks in to the lobby and points at me and asks me to follow him to his office. I went from frustrated to angry within seconds. He asked several common questions during the session but I could not build a relationship with him duirng our conversation. After talking 20 mins at our intial session, he already wants to give me meds. After the session, I go to settle up with the receptionist and she saysy that my visit is $160.00. I tell her that I have an HRA account and they are to be billed. Nobody listens and then the good doctor comes out to tell me that all reimbursments meant I would have to pay out of pocket an get my moeny back from Cigna. I call edCigna and we all get on a 3 way call and Dr Owens then berates the rep on the phone. She supposedly transfers us to claims and the call drops. I call again to get everthing resolved and Cigna handled everything for me. Dr Owens thinks that he is Dr Drew or some world reknown doctor with only one concern...show him the money. I took my daughter to Dr. Owens on Nov. 4, 2010 for a follow up appt. He had changed her medication during the previous appt because he did not like it so he stated. I brought my daughter in and told him about some side effects that she was experiencing. He immediately argued with me that it was not the medicine that he prescribed and that my child was psychotic. I immediately came to my daughter's defense and told him that I research all medicines being prescribed to my child prior to her taking it and that the side effect was caused by this medication. He later recanted what he had said but still kept going back and forth. At this point I realized that he must be incompetent and felt foolish for entrusting my daughter's well being to him!!! He quickly wanted to refer her out eventhough he is a licensed psychiatrist. I told him that this was unprofessional and dangerous for her to just let my daughter go without medicine cold turkey because of the medication's addictive nature. He is without a doubt one of the most incompetent doctors I have ever met. However, there are many qualified psychiatrists in the area and I advise anyone needing their services should carefully research them and know the side effects of the medication and arm yourself about your care after all it is your life, your livelihood. read more

So, I present for my appt early enough to complete paperwork (1st visit), and there is absolutely no one there aside from a trainee who asssures me that the MD, receptionist, and buisiness office staff would be back from lunch "any minute." Forty minutes later All of the staff strolls in, and Dr. Dwight Owens proceeds to give me the absolute Worst customer service esperience that I have ever received. Hands down. During twelve of his fifteen-minute visit he does not look me in the face one time, and while he was knowledgeable he had ppor listening skills, was dismissive, and insulting. He made comments that were EXTREMELY inappropriate- inappropriate to me as a person, insulting to my own place of business, and repeatedly made disparagements to my race, culture, and professionalism when I dared voice my dissatisfaction with having been made to wait so long for service, actually commenting that "I [he] would have left." I guess that Would be his attitude given that he has no value for time and therefore does not vaiue the time and effort it takes to leave work in the middle of the day to travel back and forth to appointments. I have run two (2) psychiatry offices and have always put customer service at the top of my staff's list of priorities. But I guess that is just me- its Only mental health after all.... read more
