I'm adding context to my review. Bottomline: It's not a simple test and it's too much for a child in my opinion. Should be a last resort. Read below for details. My 7 year old daughter had learning issues and Amen's "marketing" promised insight and help. Problems: 1. It's invasive: an IV done over two days and kept in the arm for extended period. It was painful for my child; especially the second day. 2. It's scary. The brain "scan" part is a lot like an MRI. 3. There's no continuity of care. Each task from IV to scan is done by a different technician. You don't interface with a doctor until the end of all the tests. 4. There's an interview portion- like a therapy session - which they did with my child without us. I regret allowing that. It upset her and scared her. She still talks about it. 5. Her scans revealed nothing abnormal; some evidence of heightened anxiety (but that could be explained by the stressful process!) While it's good news the scan showed no problems, of course, that's also another way of saying the scans revealed nothing - at all. There was really no help for her learning issues. They suggested vitamins, which she was already taking. 6. The whole experience was poorly explained and felt confusing & rushed; such that we couldn't properly assess if this was right. 7. It was thousands of dollars and not covered by insurance. Overall, we regret it; especially since my child still has such negative feelings about the process. NOTE: If you have a child with learning issues, try incorporating body/mind strategies like in the books "Unicorns Are Real" by Vitale or "Brain Integration Therapy" by Dianne Craft. Where do I even begin...this is for people that are skeptical or curious about the Amen Clinic. Dr.Chakra has truly changed our lives. When we first read about Amen clinic, my husband and I had been searching for anything to help my 2 children. We had spent thousands on therapy, IOP therapy, auditory processing testing, ADHD testing...that we pulled out of, because nothing was helping. We kept throwing money at it, and nothing helped. We have been doing this for years. We were very careful about putting the kids on medicine, we had tried homeopathic doctors, acupuncture...my poor kids. We knew they could be living a better, healthier life...we felt so guilty. We found some great, good, and bad reviews of the Amen Clinic... and we were told by our Mayo Clinic doctors they would not look at those scans, because well -the studies were just not "big" enough for Mayo. We were told by friends it was snake oil...we were desperate to help our kids. Fast forward several months -my oldest is smiling, has A's in school, a group of friends... things I would torture myself with at night thinking they would never have, or be able to keep. I have my child back, the child I knew they were inside, we just had to find them. Dr.Chakra is smart, careful, thoughtful, thorough, patient, kind, and speaks slowly so we catch everything. He literally is the most patient person I have ever met. He has given us natural options, natural options with meds and he always makes sure we proceed with caution. We know exactly what to look for with the meds. He looked at their brains and has been able to target the meds. He also knew my child had an allergy that I didn't know they had- we tested, and sure enough! I do advise to do the genetic testing for the meds! I could go on and on... I even had my mother tested, they are in the middle of changing her meds, we have learned so much. Our experience has been life changing, I get choked up even writing this.... I have to also give a shout out to Dr.Chakra's assistant Kaitlin- she has put up with 2 desperate parents! She always answers us right away, finds a spot to squeeze us in if we need something, my list could go on and on about her! As we said when we started this journey - Can't hurt to try! Not worth the over-rated overally hyped up marketing sceme. Huge let down in over-all patient care and service. As someone who paid out of pocket no insurance, for a scan that seemed very promising over 5k. There has been no follow-up once the money is spent, all the supplements are ofcorse recommeded and out of pocket additional expenses. You cannot contact the doctors or ask questions as far as treatment plan there is none. The patient coordinators dont have any answers and every question is an additional cost. Truly dissapointing for someone who is truly seeeking to get response. I left several messages to have someone in management reach out, and months later still no response. I would save your money and go to a qualified provider who doesnt advertise to celebrities to promote how advanced this treatment is, with o communication and patient care. read more

I've heard and read about Dr. Daniel Amen for awhile now and didn't think I would ever be able to go to one of his clinics and get my brain scanned (SPECT). I was able to travel to Atlanta and had the opportunity to get a closer look at my brain activity and bloodflow through this scan and have a deeper analysis of underlying cognitive impairments. This stuff is cutting edge psychology, neurology, and medical imaging. It is a little pricey, but price is well worth it if you are having psychological conditions in which you want deeper, medical answers for their causes. Staff was friendly, hardly any wait and very through with diagnosis and treatment recommendations. Highly recommend. read more

Everything about Amen clinics is amazing, from my first telephone consultation to my visit to the office. I flew in from out of town the day before. The procedure was a three day event. Just an hour or two per day. If I had one bad thing to share it would be that the same girl at the front desk was not all that welcoming. You would think after coming 3 days in a row she would act like she knew me but each day I came in she simply said "can I help you". Dont think thats her fault maybe needs a little training on treating patients a little better. Everything else was amazing Dr. Patel is a rock star, his bed side manner is one of the best I have ever experienced. He's welcoming, comforting and best of all human. The sessions they put you through are taxing on the mind and the actual scan is much more comfortable than expected. I cant remember the technicians name but he was first class. Always made sure I was comfortable and even recommended places to eat and visit while I was in town. I have been reading Dr. Amen's books and thinking about going to Amen Clinics for years. I finally bit the bullet and went for it. So happy that I did this and have been feeling great ever since. Dr. Patel recommended the right supplements for me. Obviously from reviews, I am in the minority here. Reading on line, Amen sounded wonderful. After signing up for brain scans, communication was terrible. The person handling my case acted like she was brand new on the job with little training. I wanted to forfeit my deposit and not travel to Atlanta, but went anyway. To make a long story short, I am no better off now after 7 months. I feel like it's a total scam, and would like my money back. Save your monies. Make sure you eat high protein diet, take your vitamins, listen to your psyciatrist because if they are good they are diagnosing accurately and prescribing the right drugs. Also, they will tell you the typical neurofeedback (without giving you guidance where to go) and some other things. Get blood work done but we will review it in another month or so, or you can pay another $450 on top of the thousands you already spent. Asked for the supervisor to call me and follow up and crickets. You can read articles on line and have a good psychiatrist and do everything we just did without the radioactive injections and all of the time and monies. Very disappointed. The time span between appointments is huge too with little follow up. read more

I love these products! I have tried the Attention Support, Restful Sleep, GABA calming Support, and Serotonin Mood Support. I wasn't sleeping through the night and started on the Restful Sleep. I finally was able to get a full nights rest after a couple nights of using it and have more energy and feel more content when waking up. The Attention Support is amazing for staying focused and productive at work, I don't feel as though I have to get so caffeinated just to make it through the day. I use the GABA Calming Support as needed when traffic is stressing me out. The Serotonin Mood Support is definitely one of my favorites as I have ups and downs and it helps regulate my moods. I am very disappointed about one of the doctors of this clinic , Dr. Mathew. First of all, instead of 30 minutes speaking on the phone ( having an appointment with me) , she spoke with me 15 or less amount of minutes. However, I needed to pay the full price for 30 minutes, which is ok. I just think then she should try to get more information about how I feel using the entire time. One time she called me and I got a phone call from my lawyer at the same time, which I immediately stopped his call. I called back to the clinic in 1 minute. Nobody responded. Her assistant responded in 4 minutes , telling me she is already with another patient. However, only 5-6 minutes passed after my scheduled appointment. I have a regular anxiety because of the university, nothing too serious. However, she could not prescribe the right anti depression medication until I did not figure it on my own. I never tried to schedule an appointment in the end of the day because she was screaming at me because of certain side affects I have had after taking medication she prescribed. I agree it was my fault that I did not respond couple times because my school is very crazy and difficult. Today she told me she doubts I will get a doctor in the Amen clinic because I did not replied couple times on the phone. If that is truth then I am completely disappointed in this clinic. However,even when I did not respond ( which as I remember happened only couple times) I still was charged for 30 minutes and I did not say anything because I understood it was my fault. I just think certain things she have done is completely unfair to treat the patients this way. read more

Boy what I wouldn't do to turn the hands of the clock back on this experience! I flew with my wife from Tampa FL to Georgia, April of 2015. Yes over a year ago! First of all the clinic yielded no more information on my wife's condition than we already knew. But frankly, I could live with that. The real pain point is getting reimbursed for over 4K for the AMEN services (1.5 days) from my healthcare provider BCBS Florida. First, it would have not been overreaching for the AMEN Clinic to submit the claim to BCBS of GA but why do that when you have someone that can write a big check? Then most of the health care codes on the AMEN paperwork cannot be reconciled by either BCBS FL or BCBS GA. So in the end it has been 13 months and I am still without reimbursement yet still working on getting something. My recommendation, do your homework on the costs and reimbursement process beforehand and then decide on your own if the services had value. Update June 18, 2016: Note the AMEN Clinic did nothing in their response to address the core issues (Accurate medical codes per BCBS) of my post but rather opted to use the forum as a sudo advertisement. In the end BCBS FL paid the claim 13 months later opting to fight the battle with BCBS GA and the AMEN Clinic. Update July 7, 2016: Interesting. Looks as if the AMEN clinics response (sudo ad) to my original review was deleted for some reason. Makes you think. read more

I went in to the Amen Clinic and had the whole work up with scans.I then scheduled to meet with Dr. Faber. He started off the session with "I just spent 1/2 hour reading your scan so you only have 1/2 hour to tell me what's going on with you, skip the details" I wished I just walked out of the office right then. It just got worse and worse.He didn't act liked he cared at all about what I was telling him. He said my scan was critical and then told me to get some supplements at the desk and go to the drug store and get some other supplements. He said he would not give me medication because I came in from out of state.I felt so lost and didn't know where to turn when I left the clinic. They told me to google some therapy and find a physician. He gave me a sheet of paper with recommendations for 14 different medications. I had no idea where to turn for advise on what I needed to take for my "critical" condition..They were not helpful at all. I called back that afternoon to try to get advise on what to do. Before this location of the Amen Clinic opened, I spent a lot of money to take my son to the Amen Clinic in Washington D.C. We live in Atlanta. Needless to say this was expensive. We had read the books by Dr. Amen and were hoping for good results. I was willing to borrow to help my son. We booked the appointment weeks in advance. When they did the SPECT scan, we waited hours, they tried to reschedule which we couldn't because we flew in. The pad was missing off part of the unit and they had to work to make it fit my son's head. He had a headache later from the process. When we went back for our next appointment, we waited 3 HOURS to see the doctor, a Dr. Parker, who again wanted to reschedule. We could not, so he rushed us through the appointment very quickly. The SPECT scan results, which we got a printout of were interesting and we did a followup by phone. At this point, years ago, we had spent $3500 already. They recommended therapy. My son followed up at the new AMEN clinic here in ATL, but it was very expensive (appointment plus meds were 300+ per month). The doctor here was better, but still more expensive than we could afford as our insurance doesn't cover behavorial health. Son swapped to another local doctor which offers less expensive options. read more
