I went to peace camera 7/6/2012 not knowing what to expect after some of these reviews. After about 1 hour up there talking to the store employees, I was very happy with the service. The prices were the same as on the internet, (Good Prices). I got the help I needed picking out a great lens and have support in the future if I ever need it. I will be going back there for my camera needs. I am new to the camera and it was nice to have someone to talk to that understood. I believe in shopping at local businesses- even though their prices suck. So I try to shop at Peace Camera , but it's not easy. Generally the staff is unfriendly & condescending, & seem like they have something better to do than wait on you. So let's see, high prices, poor service & unhelpful ( & not all that knowledgeable) staff. The only thing they have to recommend them is that they are in Raleigh. read more

Wouldn't recommend this place for a newbie. It was a real downer. In my three visits, I got pretty reluctant help from the guys in front and felt like I was putting them out by asking questions. This after I spent extra money to buy local from them. Don't know about the repair shop or their used gear. I tried Southeastern camera on Atlantic and immediately was treated like family. read more

I worked with a very nice guy to get a new nikon DSLR. That said, i came in with my two young kids and could not feel less welcome. I get it....kids in a camera store is not the best scenario. That said, for spending more than $2K, you would think they could at least fake tolerance for the my two little ones. Pricing was OK and my trade in value was reasonable. I would recommend these guys. Steve was excellent. Knowledgeable, patient and pleasant. He didn't try to up-sell me. Purchased my first digital SLR (Nikon) and feel good about the purchase. read more

They do not stand behind their products after the sale. Rude employees. You're better off ordering online.

This was the worst customer experience I had in my entire life. I came in with my girlfriend a couple of months ago. She was looking into buying some lens for her camera. we are not professional photographers, so we had a couple of questions. The staff member who attend us was not overly friendly from the start, however as time passed he become increasingly rude, he treated us contemptuously and as if we were idiots. I worked in customer service for a number of years, I tried to diffusive the situation by being calm and polite, which turned out to be a mistake. I can only assume he thought this was a sign of weakness and only treated us with more contempt.... of course we left. I can only wonder how such a person can work anywhere, let alone in a store, attending the general public. I can earnestly say that his actions and words were those of confrontation, and I believe he was trying to get a physical reaction from me. I cannot believe that any person could treat another person like that if not to start a physical fight. He was an older man, beard, overweight, not sure what his name is, otherwise I would mention it. As to the rest of the employees of the store, at same point they started to come closer, because the way he was treating us was attracting attention, but instead of saying something, they just stood there. read more

Excellent selection and reasonable prices on used gear. Sometimes customer service has been an issue, but I keep going back.

Don't go to Peace camera! They are rude and over priced. They seem to have this arrogance about them and don't really understand the concept of customer service. I don't really want to waste more time on this post...... read more

If you are looking for a cramped space with high prices and the most pretentious staff this side of the Mississippi, then this is your place. If you try to ask any questions they'll mostly look down at you with a feeling of superiority and reluctantly answer your question mid-eyeroll. On the other side, Southeastern has always been friendly and actually appreciate your business. read more

My personal opinion on an in-person camera store in the modern day is the only thing that they really have to offer is 1) Seeing items in person before purchase and 2) The customer service, since the pricing at local places is typically higher. So, when I got into the store looking to buy a Nikon 200-500, at 1400 dollar lens, I would expect that in the process the staff would be fairly friendly. Instead, when I walked in, the girl at the lens counter seemed horribly disinterested, and when I asked her if I could see the lens and hold it to get a feel for it I could tell that she was not pleased by the question. After looking at it, making sure everything looked good on it I asked the price, not that I was expecting it to be lower but just to verify it wasn't significantly higher than online sources. Instead of just telling me the price, I got a fairly rude sarcastic response informing me that "it is the same as everybody else, 1399." Well, at that point, why in the world would I drop 1400 dollars at a store when the employees are condescending, don't really care about helping you out without attitude, even for asking a fairly straightforward question of how much does it cost. So, I left, and proceeded to order the lens from amazon, just like "everybody else." So personal recommendation, go there for smaller items, as I've done in the past. But I would not recommend large purchases here, after reading some other fairly abysmal stories about the return policy. The other people I've encountered in the store seem fairly friendly, but it only takes one bad employee to really ruin the experience, as well as a decent amount of business. read more

They're an official Nikon reseller. That's probably my highest remark. While in the process of negotiating a sale with Steve he walked away. After 10 minutes I asked a woman who worked there if she knew where he went. She said he was in the back Testing another persons camera and that he would be back. Another 10 minutes and she comes back and asks if I am going to accept the offer for the sale. I said yes not realizing that they hadn't even looked at the other items that I brought in with it. I asked if they were going to take those as well (this is 25 minutes from originally speaking to Steve) and he doesn't answer me directly he tells the woman that he had looked at two of the other items, not answering my question or even acknowledging me. She repeats what he says and at this point I was so frustrated that I just left the extra items there. Having come in two times before and received the same cold, better than though treatment I'll just order my items from Nikon or go to a pawn shop to sell -- because they at least pretend to some concept of courtesy and customer service. read more

I've bought cameras, lenses, and accessories from Peace. They have a great selection and competitive pricing. The staff is awesome except for one of the salesman. I forget his name but he is the guy in charge of buying used equipment from customers. For lack of a better word he is a total A$$hole. I recently dealt with him and I can say he is the only reason I am not giving them 5 stars. Not only was he rude to me but he was rude to the other salesmen there. Its impossible to have a decent conversation with this man. I'm semi experienced with photography but still had some questions which he answered in a way which made me feel like just leaving and giving a bigger store like Best Buy (who willingly answer my questions) my money. I might not spend thousands and thousands of dollars but I have spent a lot of money there and expected better. He has completely ruined my impression of Peace Camera. read more
