Visiting Indianapolis and my friend Susan Fleckenstein recommended Peabody's Parlor given it's proximity to my accommodations and their "open to all" business practices. I needed a bang trim and decided to get a wash & blow. I was booked quickly via text (I had emailed them) with a 9 AM availability on a Wednesday with Brandon. It's an adorable salon with a small boutique offering a wide variety of high quality hair care products for all genders and house plants! Clean as a whistle with offerings like tea/coffee for guests. Brandon did an excellent job and he gave me great advice and guidance on handling my frizzy hair. I even bought a product! He did a wonderful job and let me blab my face off (I was in a kvetching mood, lol) about stupid things and he "was here for it." Because I was referred, I received a 20% off my total cost and my friend Susan gets 20% off her next service! A great salon and when I'm back in town I'll surely be back to visit Brandon. This parlor is everything & more. I was lucky enough to have Ryann cut my hair and what I liked most about my experience with them is that they took the time to give me a tour of the studio, walked me through every process, and was able to give me a perfect haircut just from seeing a TikTok video Ryann is just one part of a vivacious team of humans that exemplify teamwork, precision, & care. When you get your haircut here, you feel like you're joining a group a friends that are hanging out, and they make you feel all the more welcome. Studio-wise, the parlor is bright, clean, & well-decorated. My favorite thing about it is that it's SUSTAINABLE & their products are eco-friendly. I was there with my neice and nephew yesterday and they were great with kids. They conversed with the staff who worked there and they were very accommodating with my niece's recital ran late. I've been a client of Steffanie's color and cut services for years. It is such a joy that she has her own salon now. What I love about Peabody's: The washing bowls don't hurt your neck! You lie on a little pillow. So comfy! Complementary scalp massage. I look forward to this so so much. Caroline is very good at the massage. Nearly puts me to sleep! Friendly staff. I've been to Peabody's on several occasions and have had nothing but tremendous care from all of their staff - even when I babysat my highly-energetic niece whom was incessantly trying to explore and grab products in the waiting area as her dad got his haircut. Picture this: As soon as you walk in you're greeted by warm faces and offered a beverage - plus they know you by name! It's like walking in to see old friends each time you arrive. The atmosphere is clean and well designed with a modern-industrial vibe and a faint, clean aroma. They are exceptional at educating you on each step of the process, when discussing the procedures of your visit, and happy to answer any questions you have. And get this... they are incredibly LGBTQ+ educated, AND they have nearly eliminated all waste produced by the shop. Their morals and values are seriously next level, and the expertise of the staff and owner are beyond compare. I have gone here since it opened and took my children as well. The staff was always great and I never had a bad cut. But then last week my 6 year old who has a sensory processing disorder could not sit still and eventually lost it when his cut was done (I do mean he truly lost it). It was a bad situation and I felt badly about it and my son even wrote a nice note with a drawing to apologize (I have not sent it). I realized part of the problem was me taking him on a Friday when he was tired and hungry. Today I got an email banning my child from the salon. I wrote back suggesting we figure something out, but nope - the owner didn't want her fragile customers to have to deal with a child having a bad day. So much for loyalty, compassion, empathy, or trying to find a solution to an issue. I feel sick to my stomach that I had been a loyal customer for so long only to be treated like this because a little boy with sensory issues had a bad day. I get salons not taking children as customers, but then make that your policy and do not shame one family because you cannot deal with a disability. Folks - DO NOT take your children here, especially if they have any issues that make life a bit challenging. Or even if you don't have that child maybe think about what it says about the business that this was their reaction to a small child who is dealing with a rather tough world. read more

I tried Peabody's for the first time, and I'm hooked. To be honest, I was skeptical because I'm a naturally suspicious and jaded person anyway. I've also been to so so many salons that are heavy on the price tag, are all show, and no go. Peabody's walked the talk. First of all, the salon is in a great spot on Mass Ave. It's at the slow, low end which is going to be full of ruckus and buckus once the Coke plant project is complete. Second of all, the salon itself is attractive. It's modern fused with rustic and industrial accents throughout. I feel like it's past, present, and future all rolled into one, so no matter what, I belong there. The shampoo bowls are unique in that the head rest is down in the bowl so that you are not knocking yourself out holding up your head. They carry a full line of eco friendly hair products and styling tools. They text you with confirmation of your appointments. It seems as though each and every one of the staff are the cool kids. Steffanie reminds me of Chrissie Hynde from the Pretenders. If you have to ask, that is a compliment because Chrissie Hynde is an original badass and too cool for anyone. My appointment was with Brandon, and he was rockin' a green pompadour that basically told me I was in the hands of someone who is clearly on the cutting edge. He gave me a consultation prior to even touching my head that was really just a Q&A to give him and idea of what I wanted. Well, I didn't know what I wanted, but with the answers I gave him, he explained to me his idea for me. I said yes, and honey, it didn't matter that I have very short hair, he still found a way to give me something different than what I had, something up to date, and frankly just well wicked. I walked out of there, and if I had longer hair, I would have whipped it because I really thought I was something. I've had compliments, and those people have asked me, "so would you go back"? I went for my first time yesterday and first time getting a haircut since COVID. I was blown away by the care and attention the parlor had for safety of me and everyone around me. I would call it an experience going into Peabody's, I had Ryann as my stylist and she was amazing. Super helpful and hands down gave me the best hair cut I've ever had. I have been with Steff, the owner, for over 11 years. She is thoughtful and completely client-centered. She takes the time to get to know you, your lifestyle, and your hair. As much life has changed with new jobs, becoming a mom, and then becoming a mom of 2, Steff has been unbelievably supportive of me and worked hard to cut and style my hair in ways that fit my needs. She always takes the time to teach me new techniques and tricks to make me feel more confident in doing my hair at home. I almost forgot about all the extra pampering! A warm beverage on arrival. A hand massage with essential oils and, my favorite, the scalp massage. This salon is my happy place! Additionally, she and her team have always cut my daughters' hair. It just doesn't get any better than Peabody's Parlor. When you go to this salon you are treated like an honored guest. The owner and staff go above and beyond to make sure that you are comfortable and enjoy your experience. They truly want you to love your hair and ask lots of questions to make sure they understand your vision for your cut/color. If it's not exactly what you wanted, they WILL fix it for you. When my hair reacted unexpectedly to color, the staff stayed late to fix it for me and the owner (Steffanie) ordered me dinner! They are all pros and know so much about hair and the science behind color and all that technical stuff, but also they are FUN. Everyone who works in the shop is interesting to talk to.
