After he played the guitar he was extremely pleased with the set up Also, Evan asked Bill his opinion on which kind of acoustic to buy. Bill advised him in his personal opinion not to buy what he was getting and then when Evan came in, he agreed with them and said it was a poor purchase and if Bill could help him out and set it up for properly Bill had done extra work for Evan didn't charge him. He recently charged me $125 to change the strings on an acoustic and adjust their height, an action which I observed literally take him 30 seconds to do. The strings were cheap and of low quality, made the guitar sound worse than before, and he messed up my instructions to raise the strings, which he lowered initially then blamed me claiming I had mis-instructed him. He also didn't have the decency to tune the guitar. Very sloppy and exploits his customers. He's insulted me on repeated occasions claiming he's only joking when I barely know the guy. It's unprofessional. He sold me a decent Telecaster several months ago and treated me alright at first but I've had it with his store. There is a reason several Guitar Center employees have informed me that they get many customers complaining about their experience at Bill's Music Center.

I did buy a guitar, so I can't comment from that perspective, but I will say that when I went into the shop to check out a model I was interested in, there were some high school kids playing around on a guitar and they clearly weren't going to buy and Joe let them play. I thought Joe was a nice guy. Straightfoward but helpful. He knows his stuff and clearly loves guitars. Anyway, I bought a guitar at Performance Music Center and my experience was good. I bought a G&L Doheny Tribute model and it is a lovely guitar. The only issue is that the initial one I purchased had a factory problem (one of the potentiometers didn't work correctly, which was probably indicative of a wiring problem). I realized this once I got back home with it and played around with it. Anyway, I took it back to the store and they were VERY apologetic. Joe raised hell with the G&L people and they sent a replacement one. Joe was nice enough to let me hold on to the defective model to play with until the new one arrived, which was a nice gesture and offered a discount on gig-bags as a further apology. Once the replacement guitar came in, it worked great. All in all, I am giving the review 4/5 stars because they really should have caught the mistake when they were setting the guitar up, though I also sympathize because a wiring error is something that you would expect the guitar manufacturer to catch in quality control, especially one like G&L, but still... That being said, if I could do it all over again I would still work with the Performance Music Center and I will be back. In fact I already bought an amp from them. One thing worth mentioning that is pretty cool is that if you buy a guitar from them, they will do free tune-up/setups for the life of the guitar. That's an amazing value. So anyway, I'll be back to them within the year to take advantage of that service. If the setup service proves to be as good as promised then I will upgrade the review to 5 stars. Anyway, overall I would say that it is a store and owner than know their business and are passionate and knowledgeable about their brands. They worked with me to correct any errors along the way and I look forward to continuing with them in the future.

Our church also buys musical instruments from them and just engaged their services to teach a group of our youth at the church how to play keyboards, drums, guitars, etc. Very accommodating, family oriented, friendly and always available. On several occasions when looking for strings, I've brought my filthy trash Bari Ukulele in and they string it up and clean it for me which is really cool. Today I got myself a Tenor Guitar and wanted to put it in "Chicago Tuning," but in my haste to tune it, I broke a string after having it out of the box for all of 3-5 minutes (everything I touch breaks!) I immediately put on my coat and drove over to University Music. The wonderful woman behind the counter is always as kind as can be, and willing to help when I come in with all of my issues. Love this place. (If you are a Bari Uke player and have not tried a Tenor Guitar, put it on your bucket list. This thing is fucking fun. I've not put it down since I came home, excepting while writing this review. Thank you University Music, you're the best music store around.)

To be noted, they also teach music. They teach music instruments, Guitar, Drums and Key boards. Trust me, the owner is an excellent teacher. I have tried in many places to learn guitar but after few classes I usually lose my interest. When I tried here, guitar teacher (who is also Owner) impressed me a lot. He exactly understand why and where I am making the mistakes and he will correct the course based on my speed. Also, when I make any mistakes, he will tell me where I am making the mistakes and explain me why should I correct it. This place is not like tradition classes, where they always go in one set of sequences which might not be suited for everyone. He takes individual interest on everyone and define the class based on the student. The best part is, he will remember exactly where he left and continue from there. My 8 year old son has been taking music lessons at LB for almost a year and I can't tell you how…read morehappy it has made him. Little background, my son has autism and adhd. To say he struggles is putting it mildly. He strives to be like his peers and do the things they do, but unfortunately some of his struggles just make that too difficult for him. We tried soccer and t-ball. Those just ended with him in tears feeling defeated. Music has always been something that interests and soothes him. So, we thought we'd give lessons(he likes to sing)a try if he was on board. Since our initial email the teachers and staff at LB have accepted my son with open arms. I can 100% guarantee the half hour he is in his lesson he is striving. He is happy and gets to express himself without being judged. He is included and pushed to shine. He gets to be himself and the rewards we get from that are priceless!
