    Moginie James

I had a terrible and stressful time dealing with Moginie James. I was a tenant for a year in a…read moreproperty that they managed, and during that time they: Pressured me MULTIPLE TIMES to get me to buy overpriced home insurance from an associated provider. Didn't send me an inventory upon occupancy. Did not respond to or acknowledge my complaint about the (poor) state of the property. Would not deal with a rat issue. It eventually only got dealt with because one property managers offered to buy one of their maintenance workers a pint to remove the decomposing rat from my kitchen??? Seemingly lost the spare key to my property, requiring me to be present for all property visits and maintenance visits. Insisted they were allowed to increase my rent above the 5% outlined in my contract. Passed me around from property manager to property manager without any explanation or clarity as to who I should contact. Hadn't responded to me about my rent negotiations despite my contract ending in less than 10 days. Wouldn't provide the landlord reference for my new property in a timely manner, despite the time-sensitive nature being predominantly their fault (due to aforementioned lack of communication about negotiations). When I chased them on this issue, I was disregarded, and was forced to get my new estate agency to chase them for a reference. They eventually completed the landlord reference the day before I needed to move out, thus making my new estate agency work incredibly hard that day to ensure all aspects (guarantor documents/security deposit/inventory/tenancy agreement) were sorted by the next day. Tried to blame me for damages "not in line with the original inventory" (the original inventory that I had never seen?). I received no response when I sent evidence that I was not responsible for these faults, despite asking multiple times for them to acknowledge this. When I phoned to chase it I was disregarded and told a property manager would deal with it. I was then forced to raise a dispute with the Tenancy Deposit Scheme as it was 8 weeks since leaving the property and there was no sign of my deposit. Less than 24 hours later they agreed to release the full amount (even though it took them ANOTHER 2 weeks to do that). I think 90% of the problems I had with Moginie James was due to a bad, unresponsive landlord. However, their communication was incredibly poor. How hard would it have been for Moginie James to send an email that says "we've forwarded this onto the landlord and will get back to you once they reply"? I will be avoiding Moginie James for the rest of my time in Cardiff. I now am with a different estate agency and it's unbelievable what a difference a competent estate agency can make.

Avoid like the coronavirus. The worst letting company in…read moreCardiff bar none. Unprofessional, rude, utterly awful in every aspect of customer service. Without naming names, let's just say that since this company has been taken over by another company, standards have clearly dropped through the 1st floor ceiling, through the ground floor and are nestling horribly on the waste pipes in the cellar. I've used MJ on a few occasions for property let's in the past 10 years and to see what they have become is disappointing given they're a local company. I have a friend who has rented from these cowboys (I say cowboys, it's disrespectful to cowboys) for the past 6 years and he has mentioned the numerous issues he's getting with them over the past 18 months. I'm sure many other tenants will relate to this and the following. MJ have a cheeky little system where they take your call, note it down on their system (Fix Flow) and tell you someone will be in touch. 2 days later, you'll not receive anything back so you'll call them. You'll discover on this 2nd call that there is no recording of your issue on their wonderful Fix Flow system, so they'll re register your issue and promise another call back. 2 days later, nothing. So you'll call again. On this occasion, they may say they've contacted the landlord and awaiting a reply - there's nothing they can do until the landlord gets back. 2 days later still nothing. You call, they'll give you the same old jargon. Now this is as far as I'm concerned a fob off system until the tenant just goes away. I've had numerous unacceptable issues in the past year which I won't go in to detail (for the moment at least). On each occasion I've gone down the same path of being fobbed off left right and centre until I eventually pay to fix the problem myself out of my own pocket. I could write a book on the problems I've encountered with this company. They need fixing from the top, down. Changes need to be implemented quick or they won't be around too much longer. You can't run a sustainable company on terrible service. This company will have a rude awaking very soon, I have no doubt about it. Sort it MJ. You're fooling no one.

My brother is a first time buyer and saw a house for sale that really sparked his interest. He called Martin & Co and spoke to a woman named JANE. JANE'S attitude was absolutely DISGUSTING! The way she spoke to my brother was totally uncalled for! She questioned his affordability with a degrading attitude and the whole conversation was awful! Because of his interest in the property, he rang back to ask to speak to somebody else (I was on a 3 way call at this point) and AGAIN JANE WAS RUDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I rang back myself to ask how I go about making a complaint and spoke to said JANE but she said her name was KAREN (You can't make this up...) I informed KAREN that I will be making a formal complaint and I expressed to her that JANE and her attitude were AWFUL and that isn't the way you speak to somebody who is interested in buying a property... It seemed so odd that KAREN sounded exactly like JANE and that Martin & Co have 2 women in one office that have a DIABOLICAL ATTITUDE... Being a BLACK woman I am VERY passionate within the way I speak when it comes to DISRESPECT! KAREN (JANE) said that I was shouting at her when in fact I wasn't shouting, I was expressing my views on the AWFUL attitude of these women that works in that office. For me, it is VERY evident that KAREN & JANE clearly have a PROBLEM and I will be taking this as FAR as I can take it! What a WEIRD, RUDE, and DISGUSTING experience to have!!! The way you start the day is a CHOICE, and KAREN JANE, JANE KAREN chose RUDENESS!!! CRAZY TIMES we are living in... Martin & Co need to re-train at least 2 of their staff (But in my humble opinion KAREN is DEFINITELY JANE!)

Their tendency to raise their voices and belittle me during our interactions was particularly disturbing. These behaviors are unacceptable in any professional setting. Microaggressions, whether intentional or not, create a hostile and uncomfortable environment. Raising one's voice and belittling customers or clients is not only unprofessional but also harmful to the recipient's dignity and self-worth. I strongly urge the management to address these issues immediately. Staff training on cultural sensitivity, effective communication, and professional behavior is crucial to prevent such incidents in the future. Every individual deserves to be treated with respect and dignity, regardless of their race or background.

They failed to give feedback on any viewings that took place at my property, and when asked about said feedback, I was told that the folder on my property was empty. Staff left my front door unlocked on 3 occasions, and when challenged on this, I was told that this wasn't the case. Tim, the branch Manager, is unable to use the 'Reply All' function on emails it seems, that is if he is capable of replying to an email at all. I was incredibly patient with the sale of my property, having had sales fall through twice, and when the sale was finally ready to go through, information on exchange and completion dates was not shared with me, leading to months of waiting, and financial outlays that I could barely afford. I would not recommend Darlows to anyone, and their 'after care' once I had made a formal complaint has been laughable.

Darlows is an independently owned estate agency that is part of the Spicerhaart group. Spicerhaart…read moreconsiders itself to be the 'powerhouse driving one of the biggest integrated retail financial services businesses in the United Kingdom. The group also includes the largest and most successful independent estate agency group in Europe'. Presumably they mean Darlows? So what's independent about that? Surely 'independent' means that an entity is apart from everyone else... singular, in isolation from, aside from, separate... not together? But to me, this suite of companies that ultimately trades under the Spicerhaart banner, seems pretty incorporated in reality even if it isn't recognised as such in law... which it may well be, but I have lost my appetite for reading through all the corporate blurb... it takes too much stamina to continue doing something that makes you feel frustrated and angry! How so? Well, I'll tell you. This is a group of companies that likes to trade on the independent ticket... a bit like your vigilante independent politicians... they appeal to a certain demographic, (usually the more outspoken, risk taking, courageous types that marketing people call innovators)... but, also recognises that the less flamboyant amongst us would prefer to see some substance backing up the little guy at the front, and, as this grouping constitutes the majority, (hence the fact that we have recognisable parties in Government in the UK, and not the Monster Raving Loony Party running the show), they also petition the public on the big boy ticket, claiming to be the biggest in Europe at this, that and the other... A win, win scenario as far as they see it... and I guess it works. Oh well! I guess being a large player in the financial markets means that they are eminently trustworthy and never likely to go bang, right!? But here's what they do: They are a one stop shop for property sales and leases etc, that can arrange the financial packages to make the sale / lease of properties happen. They cover private and commercial property. Hmmm... Doesn't that mean that they can carve out more pieces of cake for themselves from one single deal, (the profit from the lease agreement / mortgage and the profit for the sale / lease of the building etc...)? So, I get it! They're greedy too!
