I had a service request through American Home Shield for a leaking condensate drain pipe in my…read moreattic HVAC unit. I was already aware that the system likely had a blockage because the leak had started damaging my ceiling. A technician from Extra Care LLC (I believe his name was Kevin) arrived a couple of days after I opened the claim. After a brief inspection, he concluded that the problem was caused by dirty air filters. That diagnosis did not make sense to us because we replace both our furnace and air filters every six months as part of a routine maintenance program with another HVAC company. Unfortunately, my family was on vacation at the time, and my son was home when the technician arrived. Based on the technician's recommendation, my son went to a local hardware store, purchased new filters, and replaced them. He was told that the leak had been resolved. When we returned from vacation, I inspected the attic myself and discovered that the leak had not been fixed. Instead, the water had simply been redirected into the emergency drip pan beneath the HVAC unit so it could drain to the sump pump. While this prevented water from immediately dripping onto the ceiling, it did not address the underlying problem. The condensate drain remained clogged. Because the issue was never properly diagnosed or repaired, we had to call our regular HVAC maintenance contractor on an emergency basis. They unclogged the condensate line and replaced the affected piping, resolving the problem--but only after we paid for the repairs out of our own pocket. We have been American Home Shield customers for nearly 20 years, and over that time we have encountered a few contractors whose service was disappointing. Based on our experience, Extra Care LLC is unfortunately one of them. I found the diagnosis to be inaccurate, the repair incomplete, and the service disappointing. I would not use or recommend this company.

They squeezed me in to fix my AC as soon as they could (about 36 hours after the first call - but it's the last summer sizzler so... they were probably super busy). The AC is working great and the only thing I had to pay out of pocket for was the refrigerant (not covered by AHS). Overall I'm very impressed with the whole company!!!

Instead of addressing my concerns, the technician repeatedly explained basic HVAC concepts in a condescending and disrespectful manner, insisting nothing was wrong except that it needed freon. He told me the warranty company would only cover $10 worth, and I would be responsible for the rest - this was a complete lie. I specifically asked if there were any leaks, rust, or other issues, and he said there were none. After he left, I inspected the outdoor unit and found what appeared to be multiple leaks, freon residue on the copper lines, and rust in several places. To make matters worse, he spoke so loudly that my wife could hear the conversation from inside the house. He seemed irritated the entire visit and was neither friendly nor helpful. I would not recommend this company.

FH Furr (via Costco) quoted us about $29K. KD Mechanical quoted us about $18K and we went with them. The installation occurred over 2 days in October 2022 and was done in a very professional manner. Notably, we had a problem with the master bedroom (which sits over the garage) being cold in the winter months. We discussed options with KD Mechanical - including running another line into the master bedroom. In the end, we decided to wait until after the new system was installed and then reassess. With the new system and a sensor in the master bedroom, that room is no longer cold in the winter months. Unfortunately, several months later we found water spots in the ceiling and walls just below the HVAC unit in the attic. We called KD Mechanical and they identified and fixed the HVAC leak free of charge. Not only that, they also sent out a drywall repairman to repair and paint the stained walls. Again, KD Mechanical took care of the expense. I could NOT be happier about going with KD Mechanical for my new HVAC system. Bryan Leesburg, VA

Stay away. This man has a violent temper when you question his work. He came and reinstalled our…read moreHVAC unit after we discovered it had been leaking through the floor into the downstairs ceiling. This was over the winter. It took him an eternity to put it back together, over three days, to a tune of $3,000. We could have basically bought a brand new unit for that price. The outside thermostat, which we never had a problem with before, was all of a sudden broken after he did the reinstall. Fast forward to spring and hotter temperatures. We noticed the drain pan was full of water again, and there was a leak in one of the pipes that runs the water out of the house from the drain pan. We would not have tested the AC in the winter, obviously. We called him out to repair it, since this was not an issue we had before he reinstalled the unit. He came out and applied glue to the leaking joint and blew out the drain lines, claiming they were clogged, and charged us $180 for it. The next day, we check on the leak, and it's *worse* than it was before. Water just steadily flowing all over the floor from the spot where he glued the joint together. Before his "repair," it had been a very small leak. We called him out again, and requested he replace the entire piping and do the work correctly. When he came back, I had a chance to speak to him and he got angry because I questioned his work, which is my right to do as a customer, and broke the door to my A.C. closet in a violent outburst because he couldn't deal with his work being questioned, repeat repair work that should have been done correctly the first time he came out. He is completely unprofessional and has no idea what he's doing. Couple that with his inability to maintain a professional and courteous manner with customers leads me to warn anyone looking at him for repair work to take your business elsewhere.

Less than a year later, floors are in terrible shape, peeling and with bare wood exposed in higher traffic areas. They look worse than when we bought the house. (Other floor companies have told us the finish that Five Diamonds used - Bona Traffic HD- is so bad that they won't use it.) We have been trying to get Anthony and his team out here since March (it is November). Anthony says the same thing ("a team member will get back to you") and then they don't for several weeks, so we end up trying multiple times to get a response. When the furnace died at my old home in the middle of winter, they arrived promptly and were able to repair a small item rather than replace an entire heating system. When my condenser died (again at the old house) one summer and my brain was cooking like a fried egg, they arrived quickly and fixed what needed to be fixed. I've always been satisfied with their prompt service, cleanliness and honesty that I've found myself recommending them to friends and family. I'd like to stress their honesty as on the occasions that they've come to fix my HVAC system at my homes, they've always been willing to share what is being replaced and how they would replace the faulty item. Surprisingly, most times the items they replaced were small things costing just a few dollars and did not require the complete and very expensive replacement of an entire system. They easily could have easily done what other contractors are known to do of selling more expensive work for a simple fix....but this is not the Mendoza way. For their honesty, promptness and attention to detail they have won me as a customer and I'll forever be a loyal supporter of Mendoza HVAC.
