I chose to go to PCNix because I saw that they had good reviews and good prices. However, my experience with them was beyond awful (Last paragraph is the summary). They charged me $35 to check my computer for the problem (corrupted hard drive) and offered to do the installation for the hard drive for $90 (which I refused and did on my own. This is important for later). ----[1] I needed the data from my old hard drive so I asked them to do the data recovery for $75. Again these prices are good and up to this point I was satisfied (Although dealing with Amir was quite annoying as he never provided enough information and caused us to take a trip to their location a few too many times). They told me that they only needed my new, installed hard drive and my corrupted one for the recovery so I brought it in (Again important for later). ----[2] The real problem started after they were done with the recovery and I picked up my old and new hard drives from their location. I took my hard drive home, plugged it into my computer and turned it on. My data was not there, it was exactly as I had given it to them so I contacted them. After hours of talking to and arguing with Amir, he agreed to do a check on my computer to see what happened to my missing data. He also agreed that this check-up would be free of charge (he later tried to make me pay for this check-up as well but I refused). After the check on my computer he concluded that he had NO idea what happened to my data and he also mentioned that he checked his logs to see if he put my data to a wrong hard drive and mentioned it said NOTHING on there about my hard drive. At this point I'm talking to Amir at their store with my mom and we're both pretty upset because we spent about a week dealing with them, going back and forth from their store maybe about 5 times. I requested for a refund explaining that I paid for my data to be recovered which they thought they could handle but something on their side went wrong and my data is not there. Amir chuckles at me and my mom saying "your funny stories", implying that were making this up for our money back. Amir proceeds to tell me that because [refer back to 1] I didn't let them do the installation of my hard drive and that [refer back to 2] I didn't bring in my computer as well as the hard drives, its MY fault that the data is missing. At this point I tell Amir that he NEVER asked me to bring in my computer, and that if he had, I would have gladly brought it in since I went to their location 5 times already. Going there again to make it 6 wouldn't have been a problem. Amir refuses to listen and doesn't give me a refund. To summarize, something went wrong with my data recovery. Amir blamed me at every chance he could get claiming that it was my fault. He has no idea what happened to the data and he has no proof that he did the recovery (I dont like assuming the worst of people but he had no trouble assuming that I was lying about everything). He dismissed my explanation of what happened by chuckling at me and my mom when we were upset acting as if we were lying about everything. In total, I payed about $125 dollars and gave them about a week of my time (and a week without a computer is pretty big for someone like me) and I got NOTHING in return other than Amir's horrible attitude. I did not get a refund, or even an apology. All in all, I would NOT recommend PCNix and if you do go there PLEASE make sure that everything is done right before paying them. August 21, 2016. The hard drive on my Dell XPS laptop running Windows 7 upgraded to Win10 last June, died an untimely death about a week ago. It was out of warranty, of course....just 6 months out....so Dell was going to charge me $269 plus tax to replace the hard drive, and they would only reload the original factory version of Windows 7 and Microsoft Office 2010, even though I had already moved over to Windows 10. I would then have to sit there for hours to download 4.5 years of updates to Win7 and Office. And because it was now August, I would no longer have been able to get the free upgrade to Windows 10. Dell wouldn't consider even running any diagnostics to see if data recovery was possible, let alone actually doing any data recovery for me. Plus, it would have taken up to 2 weeks to get my computer back. After reading various reviews on Yelp and HomeStars, and making phone calls to ask about rates, etc. I decided to try PCNix and am very glad I did. Judith and Amir returned my calls very quickly and answered every question I had. I brought my computer into them late on Tuesday afternoon and had it back by the end of the day on Thursday, with a brand spanking new 1 TB hard drive, which is larger than the one I had, Windows 10, and Microsoft Office 2010 loaded. Their rates were very reasonable and the service was top-notch and trustworthy. I opted not to have Amir try to do any data recovery for me, as the damage to my hard drive was significant and recovery would have been potentially very expensive. But he gave me back my old hard drive, and if I can't recover the files I need any other way I may still ask him to do this. I would highly recommend PCNix without hesitation. read more

This summer the screen on my HP laptop suddenly wouldn't turn on. I could hear the fan and I could see the LED lights beside the caps lock and number lock blinking but the screen was just black. After doing some research online, I found out I couldn't fix the problem myself and HP customer service was going to be of no help to me as my laptop was out of warranty. I then checked out other computer repair places in Scarborough - one guy just turned on my laptop and preceded to listen to my laptop like he was some sort of PC Whisperer and wanted to charge me $100 to fix the "problem" not knowing what was wrong with it. I found PCNix on yelp and I am so glad I decided to check them out. What I liked about their service was, the technician didn't guess what could have been wrong with my laptop; Instead he took my laptop apart, told me what the problem was and the ways to fix it. What I can say about the price is that it was incredibly fair and more than reasonable. Additionally, they provided me with a thirty day warranty for the repair. I stopped by PCNix to get a laptop screen repaired (after dropping the device) and most recently, went back to have replacement screws put in the back of my laptop. Each time I made the trek here, I have never left disappointed. Amir provided friendly, same-day service and took time to explain to me what was wrong with my laptop. Even when my laptop experienced further hardware problems, Amir was very helpful over the phone and offered to take a look again at my device. I paid about $200-$250 for laptop screen repair but found this rate reasonable given the quality non-glossy screen replacement and the instant service I received. My laptop screen now looks and functions as good as new. Amir is the real deal. Amir (owner) is very knowledgeable on every computer issue and has always offered me expert advice and a reasonable solution. The time before that Amir made the case for me switching from an outdated desktop to a new hp laptop to reduce the amount of issues i was having. Amir is the real deal. My wife's PC went completely belly up at a particularly bad moment. Based on the glowing reviews, I called Amir. I described the problem and sent him a photo of the error screen. He immediately offered an assessment of the probable cause and the likely course of a "save the data" operation -- an assessment that proved more or less right on the money. Before the day (and my wife's deadline) was out, she had her machine back, with all files and programs available... no harm done. I'm sure not all problems can be so quickly and happily resolved. I came to pick up my data transfer this afternoon about 15 minutes after the shop closed. Judith was locking the door when I arrived. Nevertheless she agreed to let me pick up my package and even waited until I got cash from the nearby convenience store. Her young daughter was waiting patiently. My Asus Zenbook started shutting down on it's own and i couldn't figure out why. I read a bunch of reviews and decided to take my laptop to Tony. After he asked me 3 simple questions he already knew what the problem was. I felt confident because of Tony's confidence. I was assured a fix and explanation was very good. After an awesome week away on vacation, I managed to break my laptop as I was loading my luggage in the car to go home. All our pictures and videos were on there.
