I've used PCI for a few PC computer installs and issues. Kris had been really good, but now a guy named Irwin is behind the front desk, and answering the phone. Bad choice Kris... I have never had to have a computer fixed before, so I am not sure how to rate or review a business like this. The staff was very friendly. They addressed by concerns, and provided me with prompt service. I picked up my computer today, so I plan to use it for a time and then will update my review if necessary. At this point in time it seems to be working correctly. What I particularly liked about this place was the fact that Jeff, the technician that worked on my computer, was willing to talk to me, answered my questions, and did not talk to me in a manner that was berating, condescending, or made me feel stupid. This is hands down the worst customer service experience I have ever had. I brought my computer in on Monday afternoon. I was told they have two payment plans: one for $129 and another for $199. Right off the bat I didn't like it, but I left my laptop there anyway just to see what they said. I was told he would look at it tomorrow (Tuesday) and give me a call Tuesday afternoon. I waited and waited, and finally I went in there on the following Monday (7 days later). The guy told me that he did find a problem, but he couldn't fix it until I paid for the plan. He told me that he tweaked a couple of things to make it run a little faster. THEN he told me that he didn't look at it until Thursday because two business clients came in that took priority. He said he called his boss, and that his boss told him that "the two business clients were expensive (would give them more money) and to hold off on my computer." In other words, the two businesses were more important than my measly laptop. He asked me if I wanted to pay for the plan and leave the laptop there, or if I wanted to take it home. I said I was taking it home, and that was the end of it. Not only did it take 7 days to contact me (and only because I came in), but that he had the audacity to tell me that, as a customer, I was not as important and the businesses that they cater to. I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy. Don't go there. read more

I went into the store and contracted with PCI on June 5, 2019 for a new accounting and tax computer with Windows 10 and the transfer of data from the Windows 7 computer to the new computer with Windows 10. This computer is for my business, which I told Kris. When he delivered it on June 26th, both computers were missing six years of data. He set me up with a "gaming computer and keyboard" along with the wired mouse. When I told him about this, he said I would get used to it. My printers would not work with this computer. His answer was to buy another, which I did. I called him about the missing data and was told that it was "Not my problem". The Windows 7 computer was my working computer, with complete data,right up til I delivered it to PCI. I went to two computer repair shops in Chico and they both told me that the corruption was way beyond their expertise. I took both computers to Portland where I met with a tech that could finally get the information restored to the Windows 7 computer, but it would not transfer over to the Windows 10, so now I have to use a Windows 7 computer for all work (26 years of taxes and accounting and business consulting) prior to June 26th and this new one for the 26th on. My business has been down for two and a half months because of a total inability to save any data that would open and print, if needed. The old computer had a password; the new one opened on a click of the mouse. Security???? The assembly was very poor. The USB plugs didn't line up with the frame slots along with several other issues that could have been resolved with a bit of attention to detail. For accounting and tax purposes, the keyboard does not work, so will replace it along with the mouse. They are gaming assessories. Interestingly, the other reviews from 2019 are very poor. I wish I could give 0 stars. The owner was on the phone with a customer while we were in the store, and while he was on hold he turned to one of his employees and told him that the customer was always wrong! I couldn't believe this I've never heard anything so pompous and rude in my whole life. My girlfriend was trying to get a new adapter for her computer, and he was rude the whole way through. He talked to us in a condescending voice, he's a nerd on a power trip, it was his payback for being picked on his whole miserable life. He mocked us for asking if it was the computer or the charger that was broken. I'm not asking for him to be my friend or do anything special just don't be a dick. I've never been treated so rude, especially not since moving to a small town like Chico. How does this guy stay in business? I'm sorry you got picked on your whole life nerdy PCI guy, but you don't have to take it out on your customers. I certainly dont mind arrogance when somebody is good at what they do, but the person I spoke with was wrong on two out of three items I asked about. 1) I asked if they carried any computer cases that met form factor ATX. He told me all form factors were the same. and that it was just a matter of finding a case that met my needs. WRONG: Form factor ATX was established by I.E.E.E. as a standard for motherboard dimensions and placement of certain components in 1995. Existing form factors are now ATX, AT, and and mini-ATX. An ATX board will not fit into a mini-ATX case. 2) When I told him what power supply I had, he said the power cables would not reach all of the components in anything larger than a mini case. WRONG: To test this, I went over to Computers Plus, which is a great store by the way, and bought the largest case I could find. Cables reached everything just fine. side note: He had an opinion of my power supply, so I asked him to clarify. What, exactly, he was referring to. Was the power not evenly distributed? were there sharp dropouts that made its performance inconsistent? etc. He didnt know what I was referring too, couldnt answer the question specifically, and just said it wasnt a very good one despite having gotten great reviews and a price comparable to what he was suggesting I buy from them. And if your reading this PCI, keep in mind, theres always the chance one of the customers your talking down to has a B.S. in Computer Engineering and a minor in Computer Science, so if you're going to be smug, at least be right. read more

I wanted to add a second Monitor to my deck top. My computer had the right video card for a duel system, but I couldn't get it to work. My wife took my computer in to PCI. Awesome customer service. My wife knows little about computers. But that was not a problem for the nice guy behind the counter. He was very helpful to my wife, and got the video card working. Cooling fan vibrating like mad in my Toshiba laptop. I call around to see if I can get a replacement fan. One of my calls was to PCI computers. They tried to convince me that I had to take it in and have them look at it first and the total cost would be anywhere from $59 to $120 to replace a $8 fan. They gave me several reasons why they thought I needed to come in and have them look at first and every single reason was total B.S. I had the exact model number of the fan I was looking for and I could easily replace it myself. I was fortunate enough to know enough about computers to know that it was B.S. but I wonder how many unsuspecting potential customers do they pull this with? read more

Wow...I can't believe these horrible reviews! I've been using PCI for both business and personal computer needs for over 7 years and have NEVER experienced anything like these other reviewers. Everyone down there is super helpful and always willing to explain things to me when I don't understand stuff (sometimes more than I need to know). I will continue to recommend PCI to all of my friends. The only time I ever had a problem was when I tried to return a part and no one knew how to credit me. I had to go back three times before they finally were able to process the credit and while inconvenient, it certainly wasn't a deal breaker. AND that was only one thing in seven years! read more

As the very next day, it had serious issues - got online with them and they went over it, nope couldn't fix it but SAW the issues! I'm giving it 2 stars because the main guy (pretty sure he is the owner) was rude as hell. Me and my friend came in to get a quad core processor installes into his computer and the people at the front told us to go to the back room. When we got to the other room, the guy pretty much yelled at us to go back into the front room. The oyher 2 employees in the front was courteous though so they saved this place from getting 1 star. I brought my computer to PCI because they do have a great location. That's where it ends. They treated me like a stupid girl. After having to wait 10 minutes without even being acknowledged, I finally left my CPU with them to have the virus removed. Several days and hundreds of dollars later, my CPU was ready for pick up. They didn't re-install or save anything on my computer. I could have just bought a new one. But what do I know- Im just a stupid girl to them. Unfortunately, my computer had problems LESS THAN 3 MONTHS later, so I went back to PCI (stupid girl here), figuring that since they had worked on my computer so recently, they'd be the best choice. Wrong. Again, I was ignored for a long time, and when finally helped, treated like an idiot. Hundreds of dollars later I left, and when my computer failed AGAIN a few months later, I went elsewhere. It's been just fine ever since. Tip: When running a business, dont treat paying customers like idiots. No matter how blonde or what sex they are, they may have plenty of money, and will spend it somewhere else. Never again. read more

Several years ago, I'd have probably given PCI five stars. I still don't have any huge issues with them, but the expansion has caused a few service issues in my opinion. Several of the older employees are still really awesome and know exactly what they're doing, but I feel that some of the newer ones may not be as experienced or educated as the founders. I've bought a few custom PCs from PCI, and even purchased a few parts as well, but I have stuck with Amazon to order most of my parts in the past several years. I've dropped in a few times to find the selection wanting, but they've at least helped me out more than once with decimated northbridge problems. I think I may just have bad luck with my north bridges. The owners are geeks, and not just popular-culture geeks that love their iPhones and think that comics are nifty so long as new movies get made of them. They're nose-to-the-grindstone computer-loving geeks who actuall know what they're talking about and keep up-to-date, but the same can't always be said about the help they've brought on. Some of them are really geeks, some are just working for a living, so to speak. If you really want to talk to a guy who knows what he's talking about, ask for one of the owners. I miss the hole-in-the-wall nature of the original PCI. It wasn't as fast, but it was a time they got things done quickly. The expansion is understandable and the stocking of name-brand products they have to suggest is also understandable, but I feel like the guys who started everything are great at running a business on their own and great at tech support, but aren't so great at hiring help. The newer employees are still good, but they just don't seem to have the passion that the owners do. I feel like there's a dissonance between wanting to help people that I got at first, and just doing a job as competently as possible as I get these days. I still say that if you have some computer issues, go with PCI. They know what they're doing, and they're generally very friendly and willing to deal with those of us who want to talk to successful nerds, but it's not quite the same. The front-store staff is generally still great, but I have a feeling that the tech-monkeys are a little less experienced in general. It feels more impersonal these days, and that's unfortunate. Getting to know your tech and becoming friendly with them is a big part of repair, and I just feel like that's slowly disappearing with PCI as a business. read more

I called looking for an adapter, a fairly COMMON adapter, that is sold everywhere and the tech didn't have the slightest idea what I was talking about. I brought my computer in to PCI due to a virus it had. When I dropped it off the guy at the repair desk (before even discussing cost, a time frame, or what their process was for taking care of it) basically tried to sell me a new computer by way of rudely pointing out how old my computer was. I've been in sales and know these tactics well; ie. trying to embarrass or shame a customer for what they have so they feel compelled to buy something they can't afford - and it worked. Ordinarily I wouldn't have been offended by something like that, but I had already conveyed (while in a panic) that I couldn't AFFORD to be without my computer for long since I use it for WORK daily. I felt taken advantage of. I was told it would take 3 to 4 days to complete the work. On day 4 (after being told there were no additional problems) I was told it would be ready the following morning - day 5. What do you know, it wasn't and now we're going on day 7, without even a phone call to explain the delay. While there, regretably, I did check out the sales floor and the treatment I received was pretty poor. I made eye contact with both of the employee's who were on the floor and neither of them acknowledged me. Finally, I asked one of the employee's (who appeared to just be sitting having a casual conversation with the other employee and a customer) for help and he rudely flipped up a handful of money and told me he could help me when he was "done taking this customer's money". No "I'll be right with you", no "Thank you for your patience" once he was done - just "hi". You know that feeling you get when you're considering buying something and you have to ask questions and the person you're asking is looking at (and responding to) you like you're inconveniencing them? Well, that was this guy. Did he answer my questions? Not really, and what he did say was said with the utmost level of condescension! At one point he actually said "They're all the same except for their differences". Seriously? Are you kidding me? He might as well have told me "I'm too lazy to explain this to you and you're too stupid to understand, go to Best Buy". I thought the economy was still in the dumps. Can small businesses really afford to treat customers this way? It appears this business can, and for that they will never get my money again! When my computer comes back with more problems I'll be happy to downgrade my score to 1 star since a minus star option isn't available here! read more

This is obviously a horrible company who cares nothing about their customers. Its kinda sad that the only good reviews they got are from accounts with one post... Hmm I wonder who made those. Sleazy business, stay away unless you want to be told your second to whatever the tech feels like doing. Don't let these crooks make you wait in line while you get repeatedly cut because they offer a "quicker" checkout for people willing to pay them $5-10 (or whatever the tech feels like stealing from your wallet). There is much better shops out there, to be honest you would get better customer service on craigslist than with these guys. read more

Spilled beer on my brand new computer. The keyboard was totally shot. It was so new they could not find the keyboard. One of the service men went above and beyond to replace the keyboard. He was able to find the only one in existence on ebay and only charged me the exact cost without making any money off it themselves. Their online updating of their progress was really convenient, because I didn't need to call and ask what was going on. I wouldn't trust anyone else with my computer. Took my computer in that had a bad hard drive and they would have fixed it for a reasonable price but I opted to get a new computer instead. They custom built one for me and it works great! I referred both my parents and son and they were all happy too. PCI is the sole computer sales and repair business that knows its stock to ground and possesses both the testing wherewithal and the deep experiential knowledge to troubleshoot a CPU quickly. Besides these advantages, PCI builds excellent systems to order (assuming the customer knows what he wants) because the key staff members are up to date on the technical literature that appears constantly. They evaluate new software and hardware with an eye only to the right upgrades and applications that suit the customer. The business also has a sales and service component for gaming enthusiasts, but as I have acquired solely advanced systems customized expressly for me, I can't comment on those. Very smart and knowledgeable staff on all levels. I've gone there exclusively for well over ten years now. PCI has a conscientious attitude toward customer service which brings me back again and again because of the high level of trust. First-rate! read more

My Macbook Pro wasn't powering on, and as a college student not having a laptop to bring to class gets you behind fast. Luckily PCI was able to get my computer up and running well again in a very short time and I was able to catch up on all my school work. I would definitely go to them with anymore of my computer needs, and may consider purchasing a computer from them post graduation(they build a variety of computers that best suit your needs). read more

The service/repair people helped me last time by checking out my problem on the spot and figuring out it was something they could, and would fix for free right then. This, of course, meant that I chose them over the other shops in town today to have a problem addressed. Again, they checked it out on the spot, fixed one issue without charge, at my request blew out dust and debris (no charge) and sold me an (inexpensive) power cord when I was expecting an expensive internal part replacement. In addition, one of the guys looked on the back of my computer and saw that the Windows serial number was worn off and explained that he wouldn't recommend putting too much money into the computer because if it got a virus Windows would charge $80, on top of what the shop charged, to allow Windows to be reinstalled. The people working there were, as always, friendly and respectful. I will go back again and recommend this place for computer repairs and servicing. read more
