My female cat has started experiencing kidney/urinary issues over the past year. A couple of weeks ago, I took her in for updated bloodwork since her previous vet (who has since left Paz) wanted to monitor a specific marker. The appointment cost around $200-$250. During this appointment I wasn't seen by a doctor, just the tech, but was assured a doctor would review her bloodwork and contact me. They emailed me to say that "everything was within normal range." However, since I specifically wanted to see the results for this particular marker, I requested a copy of the bloodwork. To my surprise, when I reviewed the results, multiple markers were clearly concerning, even to my untrained eye. When I asked questions about these findings, they told me I'd need to schedule another follow-up appointment (with an additional visit fee) and bring her back in just to discuss the results. Why would I stress my cat out with another car ride/vet visit just to get answers about my previous appointment? This makes no sense. On top of that, it took them about a week to even call me back. During this time, I hired an online vet to review the bloodwork. To my shock, this vet confirmed that the results show early signs of kidney disease--the leading cause of death in cats--and stressed the importance of starting preventative measures immediately. In short, I can no longer recommend this clinic. All the good vets have left, and the quality of care provided could cause major health concerns to go missed. Please find a better option! This clinic claims to be holistic and to have a natural approach, but that couldn't be further from the truth. We rescued our little guy just a month ago. He's 2.5 years old, had been abused, fearful of EVERYTHING and was at a shelter that planned to euthanize him for snarling and lunging. In the few weeks we've had him, he's gotten slightly better but has a long way to go. He'll get there with time, care, effort, and support. That's where Paz comes in. We're so thankful and grateful to have their crew on Sir Benjamin's team! This was his very first visit and it honestly couldn't have gone better (Well, except when he snarled at the vet upon meeting. Fear not, they became fast friends with the help of treats). Everyone from schedulers, front desk staff, techs, and doctors went above and beyond for us. They listened attentively as I rambled on about all of his fears, dislikes, likes, and situations we've faced. The doctor was extremely thorough, patient, and most importantly, loving towards Benji. She's helping me establish a plan with a behaviorist to address all of his fears and issues. They treated him with kindness and dignity. By the time he had everything done (bloodwork and vaccines), he was no longer the frightened little guy he was when we arrived. I can't recommend them enough! I have been going to Paz East for at least 7 years now and I just LOVE them. My Chi-terrier mix is a bit of an anxious girl with going to the vet and they do their absolute best to ease her nerves and make her feel safe. I have seen many vets and they all seem to genuinely care and want to help- it's so refreshing. The front desk staff is nothing short of AMAZING! Incredibly kind and helpful. Once I was in full panic because my dog choked herself pulling way too hard. I was down south and rushed her to a close by emergency vet (obviously not Paz)- they looked almost annoyed at me being there. While in the waiting room, I called Paz East to get a second opinion from someone I trusted. They were able to calm my nerves on the severity of the issue and see her ASAP if anything worsened. I took my Maltipoo puppy to PAZ yesterday after she had been hit by a car. My usual vet is far and they were the closest pet hospital. We didn't call ahead and I was in tears when we arrived, but the team here knew exactly what to do and was so accommodating. They took care of my girl, Rei, right away and walked me through the entire process, making sure I knew what was going on and what the bill would look like. Dr. Wilson is one person who has blown me away by going above and beyond in recent memory. With so many COVID distractions and adjustments, quality of care and customer service are often things that fall to the wayside. I was hesitant to join PAZ because I clocked them as expensive and bougie. However, I have been blown away at every opportunity. The front desk staff remembers me even though we've never met. The vet techs genuinely care about my dog. And the prices are totally comparable, if not cheaper than other vets in town. Most importantly, Dr. Wilson caught a tumor that TWO other vets didn't see as a concern. My dog has cancer and I hate thinking that if I would have found PAZ sooner, she could be healthy and better by now. Dr. Wilson called me on her personal phone after a day of back to back appointments to answer my questions. She's sent me after hours emails as well. AND she knows the pricing of her industry partners. One of the biggest stressors of medical care is not just the health concerns, but the costs to remedy them. Dr. Wilson is keenly aware of the costs of everything, including the referrals she makes for surgeries and exams that are needed out of office. REALLY disappointed in this place and honestly not sure why I am not giving this place a 1 star. We had come here a few times for different reasons and every time we just felt taken advantage of... for example. 1.We were planning on traveling with my dog and one of the airlines wanted a vet document showing that she has had all her shots and are in good order. When I called Paz, the person told me that I would have to bring my dog in and get an evaluation which would cost something around $50, for them to give me her papers and get a signature. She assured me that is exactly what I need and I wouldn't be able to get my dog on the flight otherwise and that she does it ALL THE TIME. I called the airlines and they told me that is absolutely not the case and that they just need the vet to send in the past information of her vaccines. 2.Our dog bit onto something hard and unfortunately chipped one of her back important molar teeth. We brought her in to get checked, and the lady doctor immediately told me that this is serious and can cause a huge infection and be extremely harmful to the dog and we need to schedule something ASAP. She said that most likely they will have to extract the tooth, but need to do x-rays first. I told her I need time to look at other places, which I did. I went to another vet to get a second opinion and they said the exact opposite. They said that we should definitely watch it, but the piece that chipped should fall off and there should not be any issues. However if it doesn't, then to get xrays and figure out next steps and never said that pulling the tooth will need to happen. Sure enough, 3 weeks later, the chip came out and she is absolutely fine. I feel like Paz tries to nickle and dime you for everything they can and could care less about you and your dog, and just about their income. Understand a business needs to make money, but they go about it all wrong. For the most part, the people seem like they are nice, but the level of service says otherwise. I have been taking my puggle to PAZ since the summer of 2019. In that time span, he has visited probably a dozen times for routine check ups, a teeth cleaning, ear infections, allergy shots and follow up appointments. My dog has seen several of the vets and technicians and I've found them to be kind, comforting to my pup, and communicative of any problems and course of action. Pet care is expensive but I trust their professional opinion and oblige to do the recommended precautions. However, certain items such as cytopoint injections cost significantly more at PAZ compared to my previous vet in LA. They call pretty early, around 8am the following morning after appointments to check up, which I appreciate but is often too early to see any change. read more

* Mid May we take our 11 y/o boxer, Belgium, to get his throat checked at another vet that's motto is "Affordable Vet Care". The "Affordable Vet" simply told us he was deaf. BUT they urged us to do a Dental Cleaning, and said that if he didn't have his hyper-plasia (gingivitis) removed that it could cause liver or kidney problems. We wanted a second opinion, bc Belgium was 11 y/o and its $1,500.. *WE WENT TO PAZ BECAUSE THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE THE BEST. *They ALSO STEERED US TOWARDS DENTAL CLEANING. At no time were we given any inclination that putting an 11 y/o on anesthesia would have any major risk factors. *Paz called the Monday prior and said "The Doc had a funeral" and asked if they could "Fit Us In" the next day. **They did give us updates throughout and said he was fine. **They released him to us later that day with meds ***The next morning we found Belgium dead ***We rushed him back to Paz where they attempted CPR but were unsuccessful ***During the entire time waiting NO DOCTOR CAME AND SPOKE WITH US. Just some hipster that gave us free beer... wow gee thanks... ***We only communicated with techs who told us quote "We aren't going to charge you for any of the CPR but CAN WE HAVE A CC for the $250 cremation fee ***Not til hours later did anyone contact us to even offer any type of support or sympathy. They finally offered a necropsy. ***When I told them that I would have my own necropsy done by an independent 3rd party they seemed stunned. ***Apparently in that entire 2 story facility they don't have a refrigerator SO THEY FROZE MY DOG. ***Freezing a body basically ruins your chances of really getting any conclusions to the cause of death when doing the necropsy. Bc of tissue change and water molecules expanding and contracting. ***Paz did call at the last minute and attempt to offer a "3rd party" Necropsy but honestly I couldn't begin to trust that it would be unbiased. After doing my own research I have found the following. All of which is common knowledge in the Veterinarian Profession Putting any dog over the age of 8 on anesthesia is risky ESPECIALLY A BOXER bc of their heart. Gum disease IS NOT linked to Kidney and Liver Problems (SALES PITCH) All in all I don't think anyone at Paz intentionally wanted to kill my dog. But it happened. I want you all to be held accountable. I want you to be held accountable for being cold, careless, and unprofessional. I understand that there are social distancing measures in place right now. But YOU COULD HAVE LOOKED ME IN THE EYE. You just let us stand out there crying, and then you had the audacity to take another $250 after we just gave you $1500 less that 24 hours prior. Super rude and just classless if you ask me. MOST OF ALL THOUGH I want you to be HELD ACCOUNTABLE for BEING GREEDY! We came to you because we wanted a top professional opinion and direction on our family member;s health. YOU ALL KNEW the risk factors involved with anesthesia and older dogs. YET NO ONE MENTIONED TO US ONCE THAT IT WAS EVEN SLIGHTLY DANGEROUS. You all acted like it was 'no big deal'. Hence the "Fitting us in". If we knew there was any risk we would have done it. YOU ALL JUST WANTED THAT QUICK $1,500 that we were willing to spend. You all should have said, "Hey look I know Belgium has some bad gums. But hes old, just brush as much as ya can. But anesthesia is too risky for a dog of his age" I know we are in the middle of a pandemic, times are tough, I understand that things happen, I get that people make mistakes. What I don't get is how someone can knowingly lead someone towards danger not even warn them. Then when things go wrong, offer no type of support and actually ask for money while we are outside of your crying crying as our family is being torn into pieces. PAZ but been nothing short of absolutely AMAZING! We have been with them now for 4 years, and we have dealt with them in every facet of pet care, from brand new puppy, to annual vaccines, to losing a pet. The fact that they continue to open new locations throughout Austin speaks volumes about their care. They have given us, hands down, the best, most high class care we could have ever asked for!! Their front desk staff is extremely nice, and always so happy to help! Their techs are the sweetest, most gentle people, and all of their docs are absolutely phenomenal. Our dog is NEVER anything less than excited to walk through the doors, and is eager to hang out with the staff because of the love and attention he gets each and every time. Even the amenities and drinks they always have for pet parents are such a nice touch. The docs always call to check in on our babies after treatments, and when we have had to make emergency visits in the middle of the night, they still call after receiving notice and make sure everything is taken care of. We recently lost our first baby unexpectedly, and the care and patience shown to us by the staff was so above and beyond, I can't say enough about them. We called ahead of time, and they dealt with my hysterics and crying, and when we arrived, were there to receive us, and lit a candle for our angel. They gave us all the time and space we needed, and treated us with SUCH respect and love, it felt like being with family. The turnaround time to receive our memory box was only 3 days, and even when we picked her up, they were nothing short of sincere and caring. I really wanted to give Corner Vet 5 stars... from the cute waiting room, to the excellent reception service (including espresso and beer), and the really amicable and knowledgeable veterinarian (Dr. Isaac Croudep), my first impression of Corner Vet was incredibly positive. Now, here's why Corner Vet lost two stars: 1. The doctor suggested we get bloodwork for my cat, which I definitely agreed with. The bloodwork was done quickly and efficiently, and Dr. Isaac called me the next day to go over the results - all great. However, it wasn't until I got home and read my full invoice that I saw an extra $28.99 charge for 'In-House: Ultrasound Guided Cystocentesis (Technician)'. I was completely unaware of what this was, especially since there was already a charge of $148 for bloodwork - which was the only service I requested. Upon talking to Dr. Isaac the next day, I inquired about this charge and procedure, and was informed that it was an ultrasound technique used to extract a urine sample. It was concerning to me that this procedure was performed without my consent - since I specifically just requested blood work and it was an extra charge. I was never informed that a urine sample would be taken. It made me feel uneasy to know that my cat had been subjected to testing I was completely ignorant to. 2. The vet tech (Barbara) was incredibly kind, and obviously cared about the wellbeing of my cat... However, she consistently picked my 7-year-old 18 pound cat up by the scruff of her neck. There is no literature saying that this would definitely harm my cat, but many recent studies have shown that it causes great stress for cats, and is not a recommended way of handling animals. This is a suggested method only for dealing with kittens, and certainly was not the best way to make my cat feel at ease. 3. My cat was examined in the big dog room. While the room was clean, and well-suited for a big dog, I would have preferred for my cat to have been seen in a room designated for cats. The many dog smells certainly didn't create a pleasant experience for her, especially when she was already unhappy with being at the vet. Additionally, it seemed that the room was ill-suited for a cat's examination, since there was no examination table only a bench and a shelf against the wall - which makes sense since this is a big dog room. Now, I will definitely go back and give Corner Vet another shot. I will just be incredibly specific about what I want procedure-wise for my cat, and will ask more questions before agreeing to anything, and before paying my bill. These experiences just made me feel like I need to be more cautious, and I feel that at a 5-star vet, these things wouldn't have happened. I am not upset with Corner Vet, but just didn't have the experience I had hoped for. I'll try again and update! read more

This is about the worst vet I have used. When I got my puppy I had to wait 2 weeks for the first appointment which was ok since I was a new client. They of course were able to contact me after my first appointment to see if I wanted to put my puppy in their socialization class which was fun for my puppy but not worth the price. the person holding the class could not answer some very basic questions. I went to 2 vaccination appointments and never met or spoke to a vet. A month after getting the vaccination my puppy got kennel cough. Okay, that happens. However, when I called to have him seen I was told it would be 2 weeks but I could call the next day at 8 am to see if anyone cancelled. Of course there would be an extra charge for "fitting him in". I guess if your pet never gets sick or hurt and you don't care about meeting the vet this place would be ok. It's the puppy mill of veterinarians. read more

This is by far the best place in town. The staff really cares about your pet as if he/she were their own. My dog recently received a bilateral TPLO and I did not expect such a wonderful experience during such a difficult time. I received a call from the surgeon, Dr. Might, before and after the procedure, and he was more than happy to explain his plan in detail and answer all my questions/concerns. After his surgery, I received a text from the staff with a picture of my dog, reassuring me that he was doing well. Since taking my dog home from surgery, the staff and vet, Dr. Nicholas Kiefer, have stayed in contact with me on a daily basis, checking on how my pup is doing. I have never had a vet that is so concerned about my pet and cares this much! Definitely consider Paz as your next vet. You will not be disappointed! PAZ has been WONDERFUL! Their team has been caring for King, our Great Dane/Pyrenees mix since April, when we rescued him. He has received most of his care at the East Side location, but he has been seen at the South location for a sick visit, too. Dr. Senthirajah has been King's vet and has been great! When King had a severe allergic reaction to his vaccines just outside the PAZ clinic, the WHOLE staff, including Dr. Senthirajah, was on it! They were quick, efficient, and well-trained, and they made us feel confident in the care King was getting during his scary situation. We have also seen Dr. Kiefer for an emergent visit after our poor buddy got his tail slammed in the car door - Dr. Kiefer worked us in immediately (on a Friday night within an hour of closing), and was very reassuring to us when we were scared. My husband and I cannot sing PAZ's praises more. Not only is the care FANTASTIC, but the setting is cool and fun. King loves it, too! I rescued and took in a mama dog that was severely dehydrated and malnourished that had wandered onto our land... who had also obviously been very badly abused. I was determined to see her not only survive, but thrive. She also happened to be pregnant, having 8 puppies under the stairs, with 7 surviving. I was at a loss at what to do to ensure she and her pups were all ok... I surfed the mighty pages of yelp reviews, looking to my fellow Austinites for wise words. I was led, after many days of being denied care by several of the low cost vets around Austin, to the wonderful world that is Corner Vet. Now, Lily (that's the lovely lady's name with white fur and lots o' babies roaming about) is absolutely terrified of everything... including riding in the car. The drive was treacherous, with this giant husky/German Shepard crawling from the back seat and trying desperately to get under my feet. *I'd like to add here to the car I almost hit because of this: I am SO sorry! We get to Corner Vet and Lily darts from the car, dragging me into a cactus OUCH! Meanwhile, I grab a Costco bag o' puppies from my car and we proceed in, thorns, terrified dog and whining pups. We are immediately greeted by two lovely ladies, offering aid, water and speaking soft words to Lily while I remove thorns from my hands, arms, legs and feet. Lots of ooo's and giggles over the puppies and we are taken to a room to let the puppies out onto a soft as rabbit fur pink blanket as Lily is weighed. After being weighed, Lily and I hang out in the room. Isaac, vet tech and Patron Saint of the puppies comes in the room and makes me feel like, no matter what, Lily and these babies are going to be just fine. We talk at length and he shares wisdom, advice and a calm that made me feel like everything truly was going to be alright. Doc then enters... and he's THE nicest guy. Truly kind and respects what I am doing, very encouraging. (I should add here that the two other "discount" or "free" vets I had called merely told me I should surrender Lily and her pups over to the animal shelter... Uhhh nope) Examines and discusses options with me for everyone. It was such a great conversation. Not once did I feel "talked down to" as I have with other vets in Austin, nor did I feel like I was being rushed in and out. We have had to take Lily just today as she has mastitis. They were completely willing to do all they could to work with me on my budget with Lily and the pups, while also making sure that we do what is best for her to be healthy. I LOVE these people. I've never been more pleased with a veterinary visit and I was tonight at CV! The whole staff is lovely! Dr. Julian and Jorden were awesome, my dog loved them immediately and they were able to take care of all our needs in less than 30 minutes! I even paid less out-of-pocket than I would have at Banfield where I have a wellness plan. I highly highly highly recommend Corner Vet for any of your pet care needs! They even brought me a delicious espresso to sip on while we waited... Even though we didn't really have to wait on anything! read more

This place is about as Austin as a vet can get... The staff is always super friendly, they answer the phone right away when you call and we've never had an issue getting our dog in on short notice, and now you're offered water, coffee, or a beer (after 1pm)?! Our dog loves coming here, and they definitely make you feel more at home than any other vet I've ever been to. We've never compared their prices directly to anywhere else in Austin, but we rarely leave before spending a decent chunk of change on the standard visit charge plus whatever she's in for.... So this is the place we'd definitely recommend if you want a great experience with your pet, but probably not the one we'd recommend if you were on a strict budget and just needed basic treatments. read more

Not good for cats. I took my cat here for a variety of problematic symptoms, and they did not help with any of them. The vet himself seemed to rush me out the door the whole time. For diarrhea, they took a fecal sample. It came back negative. When I asked for a solution despite the negative result, they offered to give him parasite medication anyway. This seemed like a bad solution to me. For his teeth, the vet told me my cat had "mild gingivitis" and charged me for a water additive. For everything else (coughing, eye weeping, etc), they dismissed the concerns. All in all, it was $200. Later, I went to a Cat-Only vet for these continuing problems I had with my cat. Turns out, my cat had a parasite, Giardia, that Paz did not even check for! Furthermore, his teeth are actually way, way worse than Paz made them out to be. One of his back teeth was actually BLACK. Paz did not see this at all. My cat has been in severe pain this whole time and will need proper dental treatment asap. While Paz dismissed my cats' coughing, my new vet says the severity seems unlikely to be simply hairballs, so we'll see how that goes. Overall, Paz MISSED a parasite that my cat had, as well as his severe dental problems. That $200 was not only down the drain, it prolonged my cat's problems because I thought they were not that bad. Maybe Paz is good for dogs, but for cats, I urge Yelpers to go to a Cat-Only vet! read more

This review is looooooong overdue, but well-deserved. At the beginning of the year, I adopted a dog from a local rescue that had just had a semi-serious accident leaving him with some damage to his rib cage, deep lacerations to his chest and leg, as well as several abrasions on his muzzle. Although he was seen by another vet before I adopted him, his open wounds and lack of a post-surgical treatment plan had me pretty concerned. After reading through several Yelp reviews, I finally decided on ACV and I am so glad that I did. Scheduling with them was super easy, even despite the fact that I e-mailed them with my appointment request. I really appreciate a business that answers their e-mails as the nature of my job requires me to be tied up on the phone most of the day. Gemma, one of the receptionists, is always quick to respond to me about setting up appointments or any requests for records. On our first visit, we saw Dr. Wilson and she helped me to get a better handle on the best way to care for Benny. I tend to lean more towards alternative therapies and she took that into consideration when developing a treatment plan, but also took the time to explain to me why we had to take a more traditional plan of action (when necessary). Benny was due for shots, but we decided to do those at his follow up visit since his immune system was already compromised. On the second visit, we saw Dr. Vaughan who turns out to be from my neck of the woods: Little Rock, Arkansas! I really appreciated his genial nature and his obvious love for both his job and his business. Every appointment we have had here has run so smoothly and we have been well cared for by friendly people that are passionate about what they do. Chea, Daniela, and Jordan have all been amazing techs to work with - they are just as happy to give my little ham some love + affection as I am! Took my cat Larry to Paz today. on first impression it's a pretty cool place. cold brew on tap while you wait. i showed up half an hour early to Larry's appointment but didn't have to wait the half hour. they checked us in and saw us immediately. Larry had a few minor problems that they were happy to help with. tape worms, ear infection, etc. Larry was pretty good at first but started to really freak out, which caused me to freak out a little bit as well, but that's what cats do sometimes. They had to give Larry some anesthesia and talked to me before hand about the low risks of that and asked if it was okay with me if they did that. they were calm and collected the entire visit which was nice. they did use some veterinarian terminology that i didn't understand but when i asked what it meant they thoroughly cleared it up. they were able to answer any further questions i had and were very helpful. i don't spend most of my days at the vet's office so i couldn't tell you if it was overpriced or not but they did help me out with a 3rd party loan/payment plan. the staff is on the younger side but i don't see anything wrong with that. overall a somewhat stressful experience but not because of the staff. i plan on taking my other cat Elvis to them soon. thanks for all the help and sorry if larry was difficult!! read more

With ACV, the care is absolutely phenomenal from beginning to end. The reception staff - most of whom I believe do far more than just reception - are kind, always upbeat, and will work their butts off to get your pet in ASAP, especially during an emergency. While I haven't gone to many other vets, I find their prices for services - office visits, half-cost visits for quick tech appts, labwork, and meds - very, very reasonable/equitable to the rest of Austin. Yes, their CBD treatments, and brands they like (such as NuLo) are more expensive (that being said, they also recommended me a ton of low-cost Purina One probiotics, and NuLo, though more expensive, has made my dog's coat insane). But they're VERY upfront about the cost, and what matters most if you had to pick and choose - rather than guilting you about your budget, and leaving you to wonder what part to treat. Dr. Vaughan is truly exceptional - I've never had an appointment, including emergency squeeze-ins, that have lasted under 40 mins. He sits, he talks, he explains EVERYTHING, he draws it on white boards so you can see, etc. After treating my rescue for a year, he was able to diagnose his nipping problem as more than just bad behavior, and help figure out the underlying causes (inflammation from allergies; anxiety; attention), as well as how AND when to treat each one, if I didn't want to have a big bill fixing everything at once. He also called me the next day to follow up, in another chatty convo, and is calling next week. This happens EVERY time I visit, even if the visit was just "My dog throws up stomach acid when he's hungry" and the answer was "Feed him more." Also want to shout out Dr. Riddick, who is just aces. I saw her on a last minute tech appt to get some anti-anxiety meds for a dog going on a plane (same as above) and snuck in a question or two about his nipping and weight, and how he really did not act like the 6 year old the Austin Animal Center claimed he was. Not only was Dr. Riddick an amazing vet, she diagnosed that he was indeed younger than 6 (he's 3!) and all the compliments the other vets gave Karl about his "great teeth" were indicators that he might not be that mature yet. That is some Dr. House level vetting. Anyways, everyone at Corner Vet is great and if I could shout their praises from the rooftops, I would. read more

I'm not sure who loves this place more, my dog "Mostly," or me! We've been to ACV about three times now and we live this place for sure. The staff is super friendly and everyone remembers us when we arrive. They add a very personal touch to the care they give and genuinely care about your animal/pet/family member. Their office space keeps it real, ATX style with a very cool layout. I love the space. Plus, I'm offered espresso every time I come, and of course water for my little girl :) I can't imagine taking my puppy anywhere else. We have several vets between ACV and our house but we'll make the drive to keep seeing the Doctors, VTechs and Staff here! read more
