Do not rent from this place! You've been warned. When picking up my car, I declined insurance coverage bc my credit offers rental insurance. Original car that was assigned to me got assigned to someone else so I was given a Nissan Altima that smelled like an ash tray. As mentioned by a previous renter, who also declined insurance , I got charged for rental insurance when I declined. Don't waste your time calling customer service bc they won't do anything. Don't even try to call the Payless rental at this place bc the number just goes to their customer service support in Oklahoma and even they couldn't get a number to the SeaTac location. I'm very disappointed in Payless car rental. I flew in from Chicago picked up rental, didn't really notice car was filthy on the inside being in a hurry to get to see my family who lives near Tacoma. The next day which was yesterday it's bright outside the car is filthy, why would I drive a filthy car for a week? Why would they rent a car this filthy? I call the number lady say she is located in Caribbean all I can do is take car back to airport for another car. Basically be inconvenienced, taking time away from my family to take car back to airport. No discount , no pick up another car closer. I guess you get what you pay for, and they weren't that inexpensive. Oh and I forgot to mention the defrost barely work, you turn it on high and it takes a long while before your windows are clear. People/businesses don't care anymore you either take it or leave it, or/and be inconvenienced . And we still gonna over charge you. Payless car rental has a friendly staff albeit at a small counter, and the cars if they divert you to Avis are on the bottom level at the back corner of the garage lot, but overall an easy experience since all the car rental pads are together at SeaTac. read more

I rented a new KIA from the San Jose Del Cabo airport Payless facility. I chose additional liability coverage instead of damage insurance. I took pictures of car exterior. Upon return of car, in perfect condition, we noticed the Mexican agent spending an inordinate amount of time inspecting the vehicle. After 5 minutes he finally crawled under the front bumper and asked whether I had taken a picture of that area. Of course I had none. He charged us additional $153.00 damage for "scratches" under the front bumper. I protested to no avail, he would not disclose his name or his supervisor's name. Do NOT rent from Payless/ Budget. Went on 6 days vacation in Seattle and got PAYLESS CAR RENTAL. Picked electric car instead of gas, called it in right away to change the car 3 weeks prior to travel. Payless customer service via phone stated there's no worries as the PAYLESS in SeaTac airport will change it for safety reasons no extra fee since I requested it already. Our flight came late night. The guy in front desk at 1130 pm said no we have to pay $20 a day for switching cars. Even if I told him we talk to payless over the phone about 3 weeks ago to request a cancel or switch. But they said it can be done on the day off arrival. No questions and no fees. I duped! Never again!! I reported online. Just like thousands of other travelers this week, our flight from San Jose, CA to Seattle, WA was cancelled. Without any other feasible alternatives to get home, we were forced to rent a car and drive 1000 miles to get home. We rented our car from Payless and and made the decision to drive through the night, through a BLIZZARD, with two small children to get home because even more snow would come the following day. The roads were absolutely treacherous the morning the car was due back so I called and asked for a short extension of just a few hours until the roads had been plowed and were safe to drive to return the car and was told that if we didn't get the car back when it was due that we would incur a $253 fee, the cost of a full day. This company couldn't care less about their customers' safety, all they care about is making a buck. They could've made a customer for life by showing a little understanding. Payless Rental's customer service is horrible, rude, and combative. They lied to me about not having cars/sedan that I previously booked and paid for. They said they only had SUVs and that the upgrade was free. However I was charged an additional $30 for an upgrade fee for a SUV. The customer service rep said he doesn't believe me and that he would only takeoff the taxes for that fee but still would charge me $30 upgrade fee. Payless Rentals have lost me and my family as customers!!! It would be in everyone's best interest to just pay an extra $20 or $40 for a rental from a better and well-known rental company. They rent unsafe vehicles! First, the windshield wipers were horrible...and we rented in Seattle! Then as we used the Android system with car navigation, it took us to a nonexistent place. Then while using the cruise control, the car stops in the middle of the road. There were no obstacles whatsoever. Then when calling customer service, the 1st representative hung up after we asked for a supervisor and ALL remaining calls went to a twilight zone! Waited over 30 minutes upon arriving at 9pm on a week night. There was 2 individuals ahead of me. The employee was friendly. The vehicle had several places that had cosmetic damage that I documented. The car smelled like cleaner and cigarette smoke. Upon returning, the receiving agent told me to go upstairs to close out the rental. That's where we stood in line for an hour. The line was long. Seven ahead of me and within 10 minutes the line was out the door, as there were several behind me. They had two employees at the counter. I'm glad I turned in the rental early because when I finally made it out to the shuttle I had less than 2 hours to make it to my gate to leave. Come to find out the computer for returns was down leaving 1/3 of the line frustrated because we had to wait and we had flights to catch. Again, the employees were nice and one was in training making tasks take longer than necessary. In the end, I picked up and returned the rental from Avis so I guess next time just pay the little extra for less anxiety. ALSO...make sure they don't charge you for fueling the rental. I returned the rental with a full tank of gas, it was marked and recorded with a full tank but they charged me 39.99+tax for fuel. I didn't catch it until I got home and spent too much time to reverse the charge with customer service. They reversed it I questions asked but still. I landed at Seatac airport and went directly to the car rental location that I booked via Priceline. That car rental place was Payless. Once there, there was another gentleman ahead of me in line and no one behind the counter, but a sign stating that "will return in 30 minutes, if after hours please talk to Avis or Budget car (6am to 9pm is Payless hours)". I was there in line at 630pm. I talked with the gentlemen waiting and he said that he had been there for 10 minutes and no Payless employee as ever behind the counter since he was there. Once I was in line for 45 minutes and not employee returned to the desk, I called Payless; as did the other gentlemen waiting ahead of me. They stated that they do not have a direct number to that location and that I need to speak to Priceline, you in order to resolve my situation if I would like to cancel or adjust my reservation since made through Priceline. Before making the call to you, Priceline, I stopped at both Avis and Budget in order to see if they could contact the Payless people as they are who to go to after the Payless hours; the employees there began to search a number down for Payless' employees. Concurrently, I called Priceline to see if I could have you call Payless and get the employee to come and work so that I could get the car that I paid for. Payless stated that they cannot find that number so I requested that my reservation be canceled due to paying for a car, but unable to get a car unless I wait until 9pm for when the Payless hours are closed and then Avis or Budget would be able to assist me. Literally, the individual that I spoke to recommended that I wait over two hours at the car rental location purely due to bureaucratic reasons being that Avis nor Budget could take my reservation yet even if Priceline called on my behalf telling them to accept my reservation early due to the Payless employee being missing from their appointed work station. I further asked to cancel my reservation to the Priceline representative because I did not want to sit and wait for over two hours when I could walk to a different car rental that was staffed. The Priceline employee stated that I cannot have my reservation canceled due to the reservation being "restricted", an administrative loophole your company has if you ask me and as such, you, Priceline had zero assistance to provide me as the customer other than pretty much being told to 'get bent, sit and wait'. Fortunately, the Avis employee continued to assist me and the other gentlemen waiting for by then close to two hours and was able to located the Payless employee for us to get the rental cars we paid for. I will most defiantly not being using Payless again or attempt to use Priceline customer assistance again because it is not helpful. The rental agent (Mark, according to the paperwork) at the counter was SUPER SUPER RUDE. I showed up at 5:15 even though I had a 6:00 pickup time and he told me I had to wait as there weren't any cars available in the class I'd reserved. I then asked if there was anything smaller and he rolled his eyes and laughed IN MY FACE and said that the class I'd reserved was "the smallest in the WORLD." Like really, how dumb must I be? So I come back at 6:00:00 (because two can play this petty game) and he said they still didn't have any economy cars available for me but that I could upgrade to a midsize for another $8/day. I said thank you but no thank you, I'll take the car I already paid for. So then we go back and forth with him trying to sell me on a truck because aside from midsize it was the least expensive option. I held firm and refused the truck. So then he calls someone else and found an economy car and got the paperwork printed out. Then we got into another debate about purchasing insurance. I told him I'd already purchased a rental plan (usually I don't but with my luck lately I wasn't taking any chances), after which he got super snotty and practically accused me of not having liability insurance, even though I told him I still have my own private insurance plan that includes liability. Lastly we come to the subject of gas and whether I want to prepay with their lower rates or refuse it and risk the refueling charge upon return of the car. Again, I refused and said I was well aware of the possible charges and that I was perfectly capable of filling the tank myself. "Really? You're going to take that risk of paying SO MUCH MORE?" He could not have been any more disdainful if he'd tried. He even fake snooty-laughed at me. I just stood there staring at him in utter disbelief. He FINALLY gave me the key and printed out the receipt for me, pointing out where I needed to initial and sign. I hadn't had the paper seven full seconds before he impatiently repeated himself and pointed to each spot. I owe $3500 to this company because of a miscommunication. We would call every other day to extend the contact, and it was the same dance every time. Having to call over and over and wait on hold to the same awful music until we finally got someone in customer service because their phone system is awful. Amateur would be too kind. It was so freaking hard to get in contact with anyone that could do anything, we asked if we could stop calling to extend it every day and instead just pay when we return it, because we were having to use for work while my truck was in the shop and it was going to be a long undetermined amount of time. The customer service lady told us that it would be totally okay. Then 1 day we get a call from someone and they say we have to return it immediately its been turned into Repo.... I booked my reservations through southwest.com for points. 600 points, score! I arrived at Seattle airport on Sunday at 10:40am. The shuttle got me to Payless before 11am. I maybe waited 30-40 for a car since they were low and every car that was being returned was ran through the wash, gased up and passed along to next person. I was the 3rd person waiting in line for a car. Technically I wasn't supposed to pick up my car until 11;30am. It only felt like a long time because we had to go out to the parking garage to check-in for our cars and it was freezing!!! But my paperwork was done by 11:21am. I was given my car at about 11:45ish. It was cheap. You get what you pay for. I was happy with my Midsize Ford Edge. I paid for $133.30 for 3 days. Payless doesn't open until 9am and says for after hours go to Avis or budget for service. we had a ferry to catch and were assured ahead of time they'd take care of us. Not true, both places said they couldn't help us and looked at us like we were crazy after speaking to the supervisor, so we sat for an hour waiting for Payless to arrive. I rented a car from Payless in the beginning of June. Sharon was beyond wonderful and an absolute life saver! Every other car rental business in that building was quoting me $400+ because I am under 26. Not with Payless. I was only charged about $20 for being under 26 and the car rental for the day came to a total of $114. The car was new and in great shape both inside and out! Personal note- I think most of these reviews are bad because it's so much easier to rate stuff when you are upset to let out your frustration. Look at me- I've been meaning to write this review for months! I was reading a few that I have to disagree with. They were upfront with their prices and their rules on renting the car. Example: return the car with a full tank of gas or you will be charged. That's the norm for every single car company on the planet. read more

This is the worst rental car experience I've had in my entire life. Wr waited for 2 hours to get our car because they had "no cars available," despite our having a reservation. The Stagg was rude and unhelpful, the process confusing, and, finally, when we were led to our car, the staff member abandoned us for 30 minutes because something was "not comuting." Turns out the company mixed up our reservation. With somebody else, and apparently this happens often,because the woman told us they "messed up yet again upstairs." BUYERS BEWARE!!!!! What may seem as a great rate online is a scam. I should have read the reviews before I decided to go with Payless. Sure the lady behind the counter was nice and all but they stick it to you when you return the car. I was over charged $110 from the original quote. I was told to call customer service with any questions. When I called to find out why I was charged so much I was given a case number and told I would be given a resolution in 3 business days. It has been a week and no call back. So I called again. The person in the phone said it was because an upgrade was offered and accepted. This was false. I repeated several times what car type I wanted and was assured I was given a car in that category. So it continues. Customer services said Corporate will need to review and get back to me in 3 business days..... Let's see if they make this right or if they prefer to play hit and run to scam renters that will end up using them one time. Pay a little bit more and rent with another company. Was really annoyed with my experience with this company. I had pre-paid for a truck rental through Priceline and before confirming it I called this company verified that I, a 23 year old, could rent a pickup, I have similar calls with several other companies discussing this matter. I'm a CDL driver that drives big rigs from 30k-80k lbs on the daily and needed a pick up for a camping trip but god forbid I can rent one. 26' box truck? I can rent one! 20 ton dump truck with a 30ft reach and trailer? I can rent one without even an extra charge! This company said I could rent a pickup went to pick up the truck with an additional fee of $29 per day(I believe this was the cost not 100% sure) that was fine with me. I payed online and got an Uber to go pick it up at the airport. When I got there the gentleman at the desk, a very nice guy who was just doing their job, informed me that I have to be over 25years old to rent a pick up truck I talked to the supervisor on-site and she said the same thing. I then call the company and talked to them and they again said I could rent it but with a daily fee, again I was fine with that. But the supervisor on duty said that was wrong I couldn't rent a minivan or a pickup truck under the age of 25. The entire time the supervisor talked down to me like I was inferior and even at one point said 'When you're an adult you will understand how the real world works.' So when I asked what's the next step the canceled my reservation and refused to give me my money back saying that since I have to cancel my reservation I don't get a refund. I contacted Priceline and they stated that they should allow me to rent and an additional daily fee per day so they won't give me my money back either. Long story short I'm out near a grand and they have a $250 deposit on one of my Credit cards that I'm supposed to get back when I return the vehicle so I don't know if I'm even going to get that back. In addition I had to cancel my trip because I had now way of getting there. I know that there isn't a large group of people that this will really apply to but I have never been treated like this or experienced this level of disrespect. Super affordable and accommodating. I needed to extend my reservation to an hour later than planned and they did it no problem. Everything was super quick and easy. We arrived at the airport and the line was short. I could see it getting super backed up though, because there is only one representative. We reserved a Jetta or similar and ended up getting a Nissan Sentra. I don't think that is equivalent but ok. When we got our car, it was washed but not completely clean on the outside. It's a rental, what do you expect? The inside of the car was pretty clean but there were what looked like some paper towel shreds in the back passenger window. No biggie. For the price, ease, and service I would rent from them again. read more

DON'T GIVE THEM YOUR BUSINESS!!! If this were based on the real live employee's I would give them 5 Stars. They were all extremely friendly. I booked my car through Travelocity with a price of $211.69. I was extremely happy with this. The customer service representative who helped us at the front desk on 07/02/15 was really nice and told us that we could get an upgrade since there was one available. I said no if it was going to cost extra. She said "well because your rate is locked at $18.11 already, I wouldn't be able to charge you more, so it'll be free." So I obviously said ok and took the "free upgrade." Well after I returned the car on 07/08/15 and received the bill for $628.23 I asked the employee why it was so much more than I was told online. She said that some of it was because of a hold they place on the credit card. I said ok and signed the receipt. I also noticed that I was being charged for the "free upgrade" and I asked her about that. She told me that she would take my information down and give my complaint to a manager and that they'd review the audio recording they have for their employees upstairs to see if I was told that it'd be a free upgrade. It is now 07/22/15 and I have yet to hear anything back from anyone. I have called their customer service and they opened a ticket and have been in contact with someone there, but all they've told me is that since you signed and initialed the agreement we will not be refunding you any money. I also never asked for roadside assistance I actually declined it and I was still charged for it as well. I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY TO ANYONE!!! Like many other reviews, I should have checked yelp before booking my rental car from Payless Car Rental. I originally booked my car rental from carrentals.com due to the low price but the old saying, "you get what you pay for" is absolutely true for this rental car company. I rented a compact size car for the M.L.K. Jr. holiday weekend from this company and it was a bad decision on my part. From the start, the customer service desk is extremely slow, after you get checked in upstairs and give your information, you then have to go down 3 flights of stairs to the bottom floor of the garage to see the attendant to receive your keys and car. I opted to get the liability insurance for the car just in case since it was a rainey weekend as usual in Seattle and glad I did. Upon picking up the vehicle, I noted all the usual scratches and minor dings but didn't notice any huge areas but noted what I saw. The car was very dirty and stained inside and the wiper blades needed a change. The car was fine otherwise. The problem was when I returned the car, the attendant checked over the car and saw a scratch and dent on the passenger side door of which was not there upon pickup. I had the liability insurance so it didn't matter but I still had to fill out a "incident report" noting the damage. This is pointless and time consuming to fill out a incident report when I already had the insurance. Next, they gave me my final invoice which was for $154.27 for 3 days of which were not really 3 full days because picked up the car at noon on a Saturday and returned on a Monday at 4pm but when I checked my credit card account the next day, I see that they ran my credit card upon pick up of the vehicle for $373.78 and it posted on the day I dropped off the car! They said they would hold the $200.00 deposit and they should have ran a temporary authorization like other legitimate rental car companies but they instead charged the full amount with deposit, very unprofessional. I'll be disputing this extra charge with my credit card company and will not be using Payless again. Moral of this story-use yelp prior to booking rental cars and DO NOT use this company.
