So I was in Rochester, Minnesota for 11 weeks working at the Mayo Clinic. Going into pawn America I found quite a few things under spot looking at silver and gold bullion. Sometimes things were a little bit more than I wanted to pay so I didn't buy anything but several times there were items that were just at spot or under, and I will buy everything at that price read more

I've sold items to them 3 separate times. Each time I got a fair price. I could've sold the items on ebay but considering my time, ebay fees, shipping and handling I'd probably not do much better than PoA. I've never found them rude but helpful. Pawn America usually has a decent selection of items in almost all categories. That is my praise. However, the employees tonight when I was shopping did not seem very motivated to sell nor did they seem to understand some of the basics of being a salesperson: specifically that when a customer is asking for a $3 discount on a used item that is currently priced $63, you sell it for the offered price, especially if the potential customer isn't bluffing and actually walks out the door. That then becomes $60 literally WALKING OUT THE DOOR. I appreciate the selection and not paying the new price, so I will likely be back. I won't be offering $60 next time though, it will be less. Received an empty box today via USPS that once held the $168.79 used Milwaukee cordless ratchet that I purchased online from the Rochester store last week before USPS manhandled it through the side of the box. Now it's MIA with not much recourse on my end... Note to the shipping dept: Please don't ship items that are 14.3 inches long and 2 1/2 #'s in a box that's only 14.0 inches long without any reinforcements (extra tape). read more

I think they pick and choose who they really want to help. I did a pawn was slightly over hundred bucks and was told I have to take a check. Two days later went back to get my item and what them paid a guy hundred and fifty bucks cash. I notice that they treat female totally different. Second time when I pawn and pick up by item way before pawn date and the guy charge me the full price of the pawn. My guy friend was there earlier and pick his item up pawn on the same day as mind and was only charged for the week it was there. So I now know that racist play a big factor with these people. I even call that same day asking why I had to paid full interest when it was only there for a week. The guy was like dump I don't know why everyone is different. Yeah right. They should pay us for standing in line for hour and charge no interest until expiration date of pick-up occur. read more

I had an issue with a speaker that I purchased that didn't come with everything i needed for it to work. I took it back & spoke with the GM named Ted and explained what was up. He gave me a full refund, and I was surprised because I'm used to getting ripped off by pawn shops. So this kind of thing goes a long way for me, and I'll be back again later this week to see if they have anything new in that I haven't seen yet. It's worth checking them out for sure. read more

ABSOLUTE JOKE. Not only are they understaffed but the tall blonde skinny guy always there to look at items will ALWAYS turn you away and find minor technicalities to deny your items for pawn. "Sorry bud" he's almost laughing and doing finger guns while turning you away like he enjoys it. The last two times I was there I spent 30 mins in line and all the people ahead of me were turned away for either various reasons including some guy who seemed disabled and at the very end there was something about his ID this kid didn't like. Just ask for the manager right away if you must go here, don't even mess with the tall guy that turns everyone away it's obvious that he's doing all in his power to find a reason to send you on your way. Like 3 total people in the store at all times, floors dirty, looks worse that any of the pawn shops in the metro area. Send this employee up to your metro area I would love to see him try that attitude up there. read more

First and last experience I ever have here. I bought a DS game right when the store opened at 10am. Less than six hours later, I brought it back, because the game kept freezing and I couldn't play it. They refused a return, only store credit or an exchange and they had a crap selection of games. If you want a game, go to GameStop, where they will return used games within a certain number of days. GameStop has a much better selection, better prices, better customer service and better return policy. Don't shop at Pawn America! read more

This place is about a joke. I went to buy a few games and when I walked in to the store and start looking at items to purchase I noticed most every game was about $10 to $20 over value. I then had a sales person ask if he asked if I needed help. I asked how do they base their prices and was told they watch EBay all the time and prices change all the time to keep prices fair. I then brought up and showed him that prices were far to much over value. I had found a large amount of games I was interested in buying and I asked if they could talk a better price being they were charging so much more than the worth. The employee told me they are a corporate company and they do not talk deals the price is what it says. (A pawn shop you should be able to wheel and deal with) I have talked to many people that have sold their games to them and they only give $1 a game even if the game is worth over $100 and know they will charge more than the actual value as they take advantage of the seller. This store is a scam with terrible customer service where they do not care for the customer all they care about is money. I will never return and let people know how terrible of a store this is. Money before people. They do not even deserve a 1 star rating. Over priced and under paid with no room to change a price. read more

Great place to buy used games and videos. I went in with my nephew and loaded him up for his birthday. They sell gaming console accessories too. He's overjoyed and I didn't have to spend a fortune. He could care less that they are used. read more

This place is horrible. In two years I purchased two Xboxes from them at different times both of them broke and even though I purchase the warranty they lasted just outside of the warranty before they broke. Pawn America basically said f*** me! I will never buy anything else from there again and don't recommend anyone else does either! read more

Typically decent experiences here and that's why I'm not knocking this down to one star but we went in a few weeks ago looking for a unique ring and the sales attendant was rather rude about us inquiring about the ones that were higher priced. I borrowed my fiance's bike on May 9th to get to work. I locked it up to the red bike stands underneath the parking garage by Dooley's Pub. When I later returned to get the bike, it was clear it had been stolen: no trace of the bike, helmet, lock, or cable. As it was an $800 bike, I was beyond upset. We filed a police report and we made flyers and put them up around downtown Rochester and Mayo buildings. He went around and put them up in bike stores and local pawn shops. By Friday, I got a call from the Rochester Police explaining that the bike had been recovered at Pawn America. The awesome workers here recognized the bike from the flyer and called the police to both detain the would-be seller and the stolen bike. I got the bike back within the hour, much to my relief! We're originally from the East Coast and let's just say where we're from, pawn shops do not have such an honest reputation. It was amazing to us that the Pawn America guys caught it and reported it.
