Back in 2023 I had a couple of friends refer me to Bob, the owner of Pavers by Design. I got quotes from several different paver installation companies all quoting on the same square footage using Belgard Catalina Grana. I had negociated with SiteOne landscape in Gilroy to supply Bob with the pavers, who Bob already used in the past. Bob's pricing came in below several of the larger paver installation companies in the area and of course higher than non-licensed landscape contractors. Bob's was very professional, polite and there was no pressure to buy like the others. He offered several suggestions, such as using the Geotex fabric, drainage, grading sloping away from the house and installed channel drains. We accepted his recommendations with the design and layout of the area and we made some changes by expanding the area from the original design to give us a larger area to entertain guests. His team is one of the best and hardest working guys in the paver industry and were perfectionists. They demolished the old concrete pool deck, removed it, prepped the area and carefully cut and installed the pavers. The end result was beyond belief. See attached Pics. Fast forward 3 years, some of the pavers settled a bit due to our clay soil, so we contacted Bob. After several texts and visits he finally sent his crew to rework the pavers that had settled and looks like new again. Kudos to Bob and team for backing up their warranty. Something many other contactors would have never done. We definetly recommend Pavers by Design to make your backyard looks amazing. Please use his experience to recommend ways to improve the design. Pavers by Design just installed a new Belgard paver driveway and walkway at my residence. The experience was great. Sometimes contractors are super responsive prior to signing, but once they have your first check you can get deprioritized. Sometimes that final 10% of the job can drag on and on as the team moves on to the next job before yours is finished. Far from that sort of experience in this case. The entire process - from my very first email to Bob Traina in which I was exploring permeable vs. non-permeable options, through the site visit, itemized estimate with a drawing and options, job scheduling, actual work, finishing touches, down to today when he stopped by to collect the final payment - went smoothly, efficiently and on/ahead of time. I am the sort of person who likes to discuss the nitty-gritty, pry open the black box of the service being provided for the project, ask questions, prepare for worst case hypotheticals, etc. Bob was so willing to talk about all these details with me. His responses were always clear, non-evasive, bs-free. His personality has the right blend of customer/business savviness and tech savviness. The team that did the work was a set of courteous, efficient folks who put in full, productive days of work. There seemed to be good communication from Bob to the foreman to the other individuals throughout the week. Bob stopped by every day to check on things with his team and answer any questions I had. The project did not go sideways. The pathways measure exactly as planned. The artistic touches (slight bends/curves, corners) look great. No utility services were interrupted due to accidental breakage of underground pipes. The neighbor's irrigation lines that traveled under the area over which the driveway was to be installed were moved out to their side without disruption. There is zero buyer's remorse on my end. We used Pavers by design for our backyard remodel. We had cracked concrete and drainage problems in our backyard. The concrete sloped towards the house and we were getting water under the house when it would rain. I called Bob and he answered right away and came out promptly to evaluate the job and give us some ideas and a quote. At the same time we were having our pool refinished so he also took time to coordinate with the pool contractor and come up with a plan and schedule. Bob was polite, professional, and very knowledgeable. We got 4 quotes before choosing this company, and I felt he was the most qualified and at a very reasonable and fair price. His crew came out and they were fast, professional, courteous and talented. They installed a French drain going around the house to solve our drainage issues and re graded the slope of the patio to make sure all water flowed to the drain. They completed the job within the time frame promised and halfway through we decided to add in artificial turf. They installed it and it is stunning! We have a Great Dane and a black lab who have been playing and running on it and it's holding up very well! I am very thrilled with our new backyard and would highly recommend this company. Contacted Bob for a new driveway installation. From the first meeting with Bob I knew I had the right person for the job. He was just as concerned with the overall "look" of the job as well as doing the job right. We agreed on a paver choice and color then a few weeks later the crew was set to start. Bob set up one last meeting to go over our choices and any concerns before they were set to start. During the meeting he felt it would be better to add another color to our border, at no extra cost to us! (who does that, most companies are always trying to upsell you... not Bob! He wants it to look perfect!) The installers are such hard workers, take pride in their work and kept the job site neat and clean every day. Bob Traina is the best. Just completed our backyard with pavers and artificial grass. We had gotten 3 quotes and he gave us the best price. He was very patient as I was making changes and worried about the design. His workers are very good and know what they are doing. They took down a small fence, and tore out old cement and lawn and hauled it away. Then started in with the pavers. We had a patio installed by Mr.Traina and crew. While we were satisfied with the work, our after installation service has been less than professional. My wife and I have left NUMEROUS texts and even have seen Bob in person with some concerns; chipped pavers and sealer. All the while he assured us he'd "have someone right on it"....No ONE EVER showed UP. We hired someone else. While Bob talks about keeping the customer happy he falls well short. I think customer service is the most important part of a company. Ideally you never want to have any issues- but when you do- u want someone to take responsibility for it, and handle it accordingly. A couple years ago I hired bob to install pavers in our front yard. We currently are going through a remodel and my contractor noticed that they were installed incorrectly. Apparently they should be graded down away from the house, not level. As that is a flooding hazard with rain. I contacted bob and explained the situation. He didn't even bother to come out and take a look at the job. All he did was send us pictures of completion, saying what a beautiful job he did. The irony here- the appearance is not what I called him for. I called regarding incorrect installation. My contractor is licensed, and knows what he's talking about. I also have other landscapers vouch that it was done incorrectly and they could take care of it. Another company I hired for my backyard had also installed incorrectly. What did they do- they put a bunch of men on the job to take Care of her issue ASAP. Don't go to someone who doesn't stand behind his work. Update to his response: I called your company before he removed pavers. He did not remove all pavers, only certain ones that he needed to move because you never responded and we needed to move forward with our remodel. When I called you again, you finally responded with NOT even coming to look at the home. All you did was state that you did it correctly. I can afford for someone to come and redo the pavers. That's not the issue....My issue is that as my contractor stated, you installed incorrectly to begin with. It's principle. You may have all kind of designations, doesn't matter. Your not honest and didn't do the job properly. read more

We visited a relative who had their patio done during the summer. We were so impressed with how their patio turned out we asked who did the work. They told us Pavers by Design. We couldn't be more delighted with Bob Traina and his team. They created one large patio, one small patio and two walkways with Belgard pavers (same style used for our relatives' patio). The 4 man crew showed up for work at 8am and worked solidly until 4pm. They were efficient, worked incredibly well as a team and were highly skilled. It was a pleasure watching them and their craftsmanship as the project evolved. I was worried about drainage and was assured the pavers would be sloped away from the house. I watched as the crew used a level and set lines to ensure the correct slope. I saw them constantly checking and rechecking their work with a level as they worked. During the excavation they discovered our underground drainage pipe was almost completely blocked because the pipe wasn't properly installed 7 years prior. They replaced the pipe and ensured the new pipe was at an angle so water would flow properly into the garden. They cleaned up after their work each day and when they finally left I was actually sad to see them go. When does anyone ever say that about a contractor? Bob showed up every morning to check in with his crew and with us to let us know what would be happening that day and answer any of our questions. He responded to any texts or emails quickly. The grading work took 2 days and paver installation took 3 days. He was professional, knowledgeable and a pleasure to talk to. He even called the evening the job was done to make sure we were happy with the result. We can't say enough good things about him and highly recommend Pavers by Design! read more

We recently completed a total yard redesign. We hired Pavers by Design to do the hardscape. We couldn't be happier with the job Bob and his talented crew did. Bob reviewed our landscape plan and suggested numerous creative improvements all of which made sense that we enthusiastically adopted. Also we have always had a drainage problem that Bob carefully assessed and resolved by creating a below paver trench with all of the house downspouts feeding into along with careful grading. He is very professional and clearly details in writing what work will be done at a fair price. Bob is onsite every day to answer questions and address concerns; a true collaborative approach which was very important to us. We made numerous last minute changes which Bob easily accommodated. He was always available in person or via phone to ensure things were getting done to our satisfaction. The crew at Pavers By Design are experienced and really know what they are doing. I placed 2 calls on 2 separate days to get a bid for our patio. Bob responded to the second call with "thought you were a vendor" that's why he didn't respond to the first.. He came out the next day. Measured and gave me a verbal bid. I requested an email bid. Gave him my email address. He never provided a business card, or brochure. He never sent a bid. I placed 2 additional calls on 2 days. Never have received a call back or bid on email. Guess he didn't want our business. I would not recommend this guy. read more

Bob came by and measured my yard and then we sat down and discussed a lot of options. He was very knowledgeable! He gave me so many ideas on what do with my yard as well as lots of information on how I might want to landscape the remaining area after the pavers. I had lots of questions and he had lots of answers. We settled on a design and a price. The next day, he emailed me the drawings of the plans and the estimate. He and his crew were at my home 3 weeks later to do the install. The demolition and install went very quickly. They were done in 3 days. I LOVE LOVE the look of my new backyard. Highly recommend Bob! Needed a new driveway due to sewer main replacement. Got bids from several contractors for both stamped concrete as well as pavers. Bob's quote was the most reasonable quote of all. Btw, he only does pavers. Bob is very knowledgeable and friendly guy. He also gave us pointers on our DIY walkway pavers on our side yard and also moving our waterline that went straight across our front door at our initial meeting. In the valley where everyone seems to just care about the $$$, Bob taking time to give us advice on the rest of the yard made him all the more trustworthy. We had our own drain guy who was working on the sewer replacement and Bob and him took care of the scheduling and finishing up without getting us involved. My wife and I just finished up a driveway remodel project with Bob and his team. We got 3 different quotes, and Bob's was the most detailed and he took the most time of anyone to talk to us about the layout, design and functionality of our new driveway. Bob was the only one that provided a drawing of the proposed project and also the only one that took the time to make recommendations and specifically focus on things like drainage (we live on a hillside with a steep driveway). They told us to plan for 2 weeks to get the project done, but managed to wrap it up in approximately 6 days. Bob came by twice a day to check in on progress and deal with our questions and change requests. He answered our calls and texts promptly and was really just a pleasure to work with...he is a genuinely nice guy and wants to make his customer's happy. We never heard back from him. After repeated calls to the owner, I was called back and told that he needed to get the foreman out to see the job before he could give us a quote. Fair enough. He said he would call us back. We never heard back from him. After further calls on my part, he called back and said he was just so busy, he couldn't take the job. We recently had Pavers By Design do an update of our patio. This entailed removing an old double deck area that had lots of dry rot and installing cobblestone- like pavers. During the demo, we discovered that our redwood pergola also had some dry rot issues under the deck line. Bob Traina was extremely helpful in finding a contractor to resolve those issues quickly.
