Just picked up about $400 worth of plants. Upon leaving someone decided to block my mom's car in. Turns out it was the daughter in law of the owner who said that was her spot and didn't move her car for half an hour. There was no sign saying it was her spot. Even if there was, this is no way to treat customers. I am doing a huge project and would have bought thousands of dollars worth of plants. I was just making sure they were quality and didn't have bugs on the first run. I won't be back. I'll just go to rainbow gardens were they have just as nice plants and nicer people. Third time will be my last time. Have never understood what people see in this place. I dont see good value or any different plant selection. Usually one of the owners will follow you closely like youre gonna stick a cactus in your pants and walk out. Just not for me, I guess. read more

This is a great location if you're looking for cacti and succulents. The selection is huge and most of the plants are in excellent condition. There were a few that were injured by cold or heat, but almost all were in prime condition. The owner is extremely knowledgeable and knows her inventory very well. It's a little bit away from San Antonio but worth the trip. read more

Paul's Desert has a large variety of succulents and cacti. Even I was amazed how I walked in and found what i have been looking for for a few years. Lisa, Paul's wife is amazing. She is very knowledgeable about the plants and gives great advice if you ask her. She has become the heart of the business and continues her husband passion for plants. TAKE THE TRIP!!! You gotta get here!!! If you're into succulents, cacti, and the like... Paul's is the place for you! Paul and lisa are incredibly knowledgeable and their selection is unmatched for rare succulents and cacti. There is a large greenhouse with items below $5 but ranging all the way up into the couple hundreds for larger items and more rare species. They sell their own soil mix that is absolutely perfect for any drought tolerant plants. You can bring your own bucket and fill it for ... $6 or $7, I want to say, but please don't quote me. If you forget a bucket they'll usually have ones for sale as well. They've also got a good selection of different top dressings if you want to make your own staging, as well as some cool larger rocks outside if you want some focal points for your xeriscaping. Not Boulder size, more like baseball to softball but still very cool and unique. There are handmade ceramics if you need some good pots as well! The inside office also has some beautiful Navajo jewelry and there's also some books for sale as well. Wherever you are in the SA area, it's absolutely worth your time to come see this gem. As an admitted cactus addict, I really loved this nursery! I was visiting San Antonio for vacation, and heard great things about this place, so I decided to check it out. It is only about a 45 minute drive from downtown SA, so it's very accessible by car. BUT, be sure to check their Facebook page as they do have limited hours some days. It's best to call them, and ask what their hours are so you don't make a trip out there, and end up disappointed. If you are interested in collecting astrophytum, this is your place! There are many species to choose from, and varying sizes to fit your collection and budget. I was lucky to see some in bloom in mid-October, they were so beautiful. I came away with two plants I've had on my wish list for quite some time: aloe marlothii and an astrophytum myriostigma. Now I just have to figure out how to transport them in my carryon luggage. This was a bit of a drive for us but from my research about succulents it is a MUST VISIT for any succulent mommas. And boy was I right!! It's a bit scary as you drive up to a house and the sign over the door mentions appliances, but don't let that phase you. Just read the tiny sign that says to head to the back and check out the greenhouses. For a rather compact area this had a MAJOR selection of cacti and succulents. I went around murmuring to the plants like they were all my babies. It was so exciting! I saw tons of succulents that I wanted and had to pick and choose the most essential for this trip. I saw plants I didn't recognize and Paul's wife was standing by to answer any questions I had. I ended up with 7 new babies, one a bigger, rarer one for $10. I was quite pleased. I will certainly be back! It's well worth the trip, I dare any succulent or cacti lover to walk away with anything less than a couple new plants. read more

It's a little local desert plant store off of Schertz parkway. It is really nice there. Once you pass their gate is like traveling or teleporting to the desert of Arizona or New Mexico. It really is enchanting how many succulent plants they have there. The owner is a sweet sweet lady. And my wife have no problem spending time and buy the plants she's been looking for. They have a pretty wide spread of plants that you may not see at you regular plant stores or garden shops. Take a look and see it's a must to check out if your in town. read more

Finally got the chance to get here and I absolutely loved the selection they had! The man helping me, I'm assuming Paul, knew a lot about the plants. He was so sweet and chatty. I wanted to buy everything, seriously. Prices were not bad, I bought a desert rose for 20$ and 3 other echeveria succulents for 4$ each so 34$ total. Here is the first and last thing you need to know about Lisa (and Paul). These plants aren't sale products. They genuinely CARE for them and do not want you to get them just to destroy them because they are beautiful creations, so feel free to ask questions. You aren't being a bother. Lisa, like all good mommies WANTS you to succeed! I discovered Paul's Desert when I was looking to landscape my backyard in Selma. I have an area that gets entirely too much sun, no shade, and of course its humid because... South Central Texas! Paul told me what to do so the plants would not die. It was too hot and way too much direct sun for succulents and is too wet for cactus. He suggested raised clay pots with planter bowls with cacti in special soil. I needed to prepare and return. When I returned, Paul had passed...God rest his sweet soul. Lisa was there and I commissioned her to design 3 bowls to place on 3 pedestals for my backyard in the corner as center pieces for the then sale of my house. And of course I enclosed a card (and careful instructions!) from Paul's Desert for the new owners so they can take care of "the children". read more
