Yes yes yes! A hidden gem! Ok ok I know a lot of you are TikTok crazy and plantok has got you looking for plants a all over the place. Well look no further. Paul's Desert has a large variety of succulents and cacti. Even I was amazed how I walked in and found what i have been looking for for a few years. Lisa, Paul's wife is amazing. She is very knowledgeable about the plants and gives great advice if you ask her. She has become the heart of the business and continues her husband passion for plants. It is always worth the trip to visit the nursery. She also has events, pottery from local Texas artists and more. Check out their FB page for changes in hours and more. Stars 1 star for service 1star for facilities 1 star for plant selections 1 star for parking and ease of finding location. 1 star for overall experience

Great place for cactus. Every time I visit anywhere in the Texas hill country, I include a trip to Shertz to drop in at Paul's. Great selection and variety. Always spend more than I intended! very knowledgeable staff. Friendly and helpful.

Beautiful collection and example of small xeriscaping that you could do with plants from here

TAKE THE TRIP!!! You gotta get here!!! If you're into succulents, cacti, and the like... Paul's is the place for you! Paul and lisa are incredibly knowledgeable and their selection is unmatched for rare succulents and cacti. There is a large greenhouse with items below $5 but ranging all the way up into the couple hundreds for larger items and more rare species. They sell their own soil mix that is absolutely perfect for any drought tolerant plants. You can bring your own bucket and fill it for ... $6 or $7, I want to say, but please don't quote me. If you forget a bucket they'll usually have ones for sale as well. They've also got a good selection of different top dressings if you want to make your own staging, as well as some cool larger rocks outside if you want some focal points for your xeriscaping. Not Boulder size, more like baseball to softball but still very cool and unique. There are handmade ceramics if you need some good pots as well! The inside office also has some beautiful Navajo jewelry and there's also some books for sale as well. Wherever you are in the SA area, it's absolutely worth your time to come see this gem. Thanks Paul's desert! We're so happy we live down the street from y'all!!!

Aloe marlothii that I am adding to my plant collection. Purchased for $20

As an admitted cactus addict, I really loved this nursery! I was visiting San Antonio for vacation, and heard great things about this place, so I decided to check it out. It is only about a 45 minute drive from downtown SA, so it's very accessible by car. BUT, be sure to check their Facebook page as they do have limited hours some days. It's best to call them, and ask what their hours are so you don't make a trip out there, and end up disappointed. If you are interested in collecting astrophytum, this is your place! There are many species to choose from, and varying sizes to fit your collection and budget. I was lucky to see some in bloom in mid-October, they were so beautiful. I came away with two plants I've had on my wish list for quite some time: aloe marlothii and an astrophytum myriostigma. Now I just have to figure out how to transport them in my carryon luggage. LOL!

The knowledge and helpfulness is amazing! Love the Dessert Nursery! My Madagascar Palm is doing well ! Karin Crane , New Braunfels

So happy with my haul from Paul's Desert! And none other than Paul himself to help me pack up my new plants!

The lady working the…read morecounter never acknowledged us waiting for her to finish with her phone call, but waited to announce over intercom that customers needed assistance. The guy who greeted us was with his back turned as he walked by saying "What's up?", causing a bit of confusion and frustration. Apparently, the website was incorrect on closing times for rentals as well as there not being a contact service to check on if the equipment was in stock. The employee didn't know there was a contact system, or even a website no less. In a very defensive tone he stated "Well, aren't we full of lies today?" He kept watching the clock, as it was 20 minutes to closing when we came in. I'll be spending the extra money at the other stores from now on.

Bittersweet experience for tables/chair rental. Mr. John Sippel, who usually pleasantly and…read morepromptly takes care of the rental agreement, seemed to be more concerned with soldering a battery cable than acknowledging my needs as a customer. When I arrived, he did call for another employee to come assist me while he soldered. The employee came and courteously asked me what I needed and quickly left to get it ready to load. I waited for Mr. Sippel to begin the paperwork but he moved to another area behind his counter and continued soldering. I patiently waited, when another older employee led two customers to behind the counter where Mr. Sippel was 'working'. He stopped his soldering, gave them his full attention and began giving them advice including telling old family tales. I began to pace impatiently for about 10 minutes before another very polite employee who seemed to be coming with his lunch asked if I was helped. He stopped eating his burger, apologized for the delay and quickly handled the reservation. The employee who prepared the chairs and tables came back and asked, "you're still here waiting". I told him the situation and he was surprised and told me, "but you were waiting right here!" These guys were very helpful and knew how to take care of their customers. I will consider finding another rental location and telling friends and family to possibly do the same.
