Thank you to @Rainbow Gardens Texas for letting us witness these #prayingmantis babies being released. Praying Mantises are a fantastic natural pest control addition to your garden! Lots of native plants and cool aroids too. It's a bit pricey, but they do seem to fare better than big store plants imo. They have 1 bathroom available so leave the kids at home, ‍. I live close by and like to pop in to see what they have. It's a large nursery with a lot of variety. I like the signs that describe the plants and growing conditions. But the prices are really high and the quality of plants have gone downhill. I bought lantanas this spring and only half are doing okay and they are all in the same area. I bought a pineapple sage that dies even though it only got morning sun. And several times I bought tomatoes and peppers, bumped them into larger pots and put them in morning sun and afternoon shade to develop a better root system. Half of them died. Go to Milberger's for better plants. read more

I love Rainbow. We probably go at least once a month. I enjoy all the variety of plants. Their signs and social media accounts are very educational and helpful. I've never actually been stopped by a staff member to see if I need help, they are usually all busy or talking to each other. That said, its a fun place to visit and we have many of their plants despite their plants are a bit pricey. read more

It is so hurtful, annoying, and disappointing when your favorite place lets you down. A place you are a fan of and support/follow on social media. When visiting keep in mind that nefarious people go as well; cutting or breaking limbs off of plants to steal. This causes some unique pots, some of them are the last on the shelves, to be mistreated or missing limbs - essentially harming the plant and reducing its overall value and appearance (marks and callused over breaks and scars). Being a regular customer that buys something Every-time I visit (rare plant hunter) found a sad Plumeria who lost a full limb - All its cousins had 3 healthy limbs. It was the last unique color (Nirvana). A "gentleman" who I assume is the manager was called and was told by a worker who went and checked than in fact it is the last one and all others have 3 limbs... The dude cavalierly says that's the prices. Period. Didn't even look at me in the eye and called it an "old break from the vender." That is unlikely because how come the plant hasn't recovered if it's old? Regardless the whole matter turned awkward for this regular costumer and the poor cashiers who were trying their best to have the interaction go well. Another customer had to chime in and calm the waters with friendly reassurances but they weren't enough. I hope rainbow garden learns their audience better in the future and remembers the customers that regularly visit and are also experts in flora and fauna - instead of trying to make desperate quick bucks. I give it a two star and not a 1 because of the fact that I absolutely loved going here Every weekend. I think it's time to entertain other business for a little bit. How disappointing. read more

I found out about this garden and I had to come. They do have two locations, and I went to this location because it was closer to where I live. They do have wagons up at the front, which is pretty awesome for you to take with you walking towards the back while you shop through the garden. They have a great variety of annuals, perennials, indoor plants, outdoor plants, different trees, fruit trees, succulents, and also cacti. I do love the great variety of different soils, potting soils, potting mix, in ground soils, great quality organic like Black Gold that they have, so I was very happy with that. You check out on your way out towards the front; you just raise up and show all the different prices that are written on the flower pots and they'll tally up your cart and you check out and leave. I think that's pretty awesome for them to have prices listed written on the bottom of flower pots or on the side of it, that way you don't have to be searching or trying to figure out what the price of a particular plant is that you want. They did have a great amount of employees walking around throughout the garden, willing and ready to help you. read more

Right now they have an amazing assortment of mints of all kinds of flavors. And they are making it a point to add more exotic herbs! I was trying to choose between 3 plants. I asked the worker Amanda Love (who was chit chatting with someone) which plant she would recommend. I described I was looking for a drought resistant plant about this tall. She rudely snapped "look at the signs, it says how tall they are. I can't help you decide, that's your decision. Just read the signs" This was spoken with attitude and was condescending. Very different attitude from when she was chit chatting earlier. Not the right way to treat a person looking for help. Gosh i love this place. I can spend too much time here. They literally have everything you could want, from native plants to hard-to-find indoor plants, flowers, trees, decorations, even bugs, like everything. They have weekly sales that vary at both locations. They participate in a SAWS program to buy native plants to use at your own residence. Workers have always been friendly. You might get some pests that come home with your plants but that can't really be helped with a huge outdoor nursery like this so be sure to cleanse and have your pest control ready or buy some before you leave. read more

This is my favorite garden place in San Antonio; they have just about everything here. I was looking for a particular native grass that does well in full sun and my sandy soil (more sand than soil); they not only had it but were able to give me precise directions as to where to find it (this location is rather large). They also had a variety of Pecan tree that was a fertilizer for the Disireable we already had (no one else did), and smaller sizes (1 quart, I think), of trees and plant we were willing to wait on to grow up. There are so many trees and flowers I want to plant but only so many I can handle watering all summer spread across an acre! read more

We went in Rainbow Gardens (Thousand Oaks) to ask about plants for our pots. Alysia listened to our desires, asked about the location, sun exposure, and the shape/size of our pots. She drew out a diagram with a legend that specified which plants to place within the pots. Then, she walked us to each of the plant locations and helped us carry them them to the front. I am extremely happy with the plant selection/availability and the employees service/knowledge. I visited two other nurseries in the local area before coming to Rainbow Gardens. Such a beautiful nursery, this place was full of beautiful various plants. This location was easy to find and lots of parking. I really enjoyed the staff, Layna was so helpful and really took the time to help us pick out a great pot for the plant we were purchasing. She took the time to explain the size of pot that was best for our heliconia. The only thing I felt was off was that we were charged extra for help putting our plant in the pot we bought but it's all good her help was worth it. read more

I don't enjoy shopping nurseries much. Husband is the YARD guy, but we went to get flowers for spring planting. We decided to drop by RAINBOW GARDENS b/c it was near by. Wow! I said it. I thought this would be a modest little oddly shaped dome nursery with plants out back. It. Is. HUGE! Like walking thru one area, and there's another, and oh! more over there and there and there HUGE. 5 acres of plants, flowers, trees, mulching, soil, yard art, fountains and.. all you need for your yard. A ton of Red Radio-Flyer wagons to carry your potted treasures and more up and down the wide aisles. Super convenient! Did I mention I don't even like plant shopping? Super friendly and helpful workers and everyone shopping there is happy to be wandering around appreciating the beautiful blooms! Got little garden gnomes with you?(kiddos) Cool. I stopped by this location because I was on this side of town. I was overall pleased with the selection, layout and customer service. Selection - 4/5 I was shopping for Lantana but they only had one of the varieties I wanted. (I think there was a big rush on then the day before.) I'll call in about a week with fingers crossed before returning. Layout 4/5 - The nursery is well organized, neat, and fairly easy to navigate with carts. There is a mix of greenhouse and open air items. Customer service 5/5 - I met an incredibly knowledgeable and friendly associate working in the Lantana section. She explained the three main types the nursery typically has in stock and explained the major characteristics of each. This was SUPER helpful. As a result of what she shared with me, I'm going to experiment with different varieties in pots as well as my front and back yards. read more

I love coming to Rainbow Gardens, it's a recent discovery for me so I've been a handful of times. They've always been well stocked, all of the employees are knowledgeable on the the types of plants they carry and provide good advice for growing, caring for plants, herbs, trees, succulents. I get a lot of succulents and house plants here but have also bought a Granny Smith Apple tree that is doing beautifully. I've re-potted everything I've bought from here and all my products have been in excellent condition. Roots healthy and they all thrive after being repotted. Best of all, my dogs love it here! Been to both Rainbow Gardens now and I 110% prefer the one on Bandera. Why? Customer service. Holy shitake mushrooms the cashier who checked us out was so rude. If you don't like your job then try and find a new one. I mean the whole 9 yards of rudeness: eye rolling, huffing and puffing, and not even returning a "have a good day" reply. The plants here are pretty. Lots of flowers. Everything they have here I can mostly find at the Bandera location. Also, the Bandera location seems to have more stringent social distancing policies in place which I appreciated. I'll take the butterfly garden and friendly staff on Bandera any day. the thousands oaks location has a hugh selection of plants and trees. the staff is extremely helpful and knowledgeable on a variety of topics. I would like to "tip my hat" to one of the staff members (Aleysha) who helped me select, transport, and even packed into my vehicle, an Oklahoma Red Bud Tree, (with the necessary soil) in yesterday morning's rain. i like to support local, but give me a fighting chance to do so without feeling overcharged... my main problem here is not much is priced. signs say see price on pot - but 90% of the time nothing. plants are not grouped into sizes, so there is everything from large pots to small packs on same table. large neon pink signs sparingly placed appear to give vague pricing... small 2.99 medium 3.99 large 4.99 4" pots 1.99 except those marked with a line are 3.49 i ended up paying $35 for what i thought would be about half that. i picked up small 6-packs, not getting the larger 6-packs due to price. but then i was charged $4.99 each anyway??? yes, i could ask, but is someone going to walk with me and give me a price on everything i want? i like to know what im buying & what im spending. maybe im in the minority, but i dont like mystery costs. read more

Listen if (I) can do it...I KNOW u can do it..so let's take control over our eating even if it's just a basil plant..Well I took a class here..why not? I have nothing to lose only thing was it a bit cold outside and my toes froze, or I would have really enjoyed the information. I apologize for not remembering the lady who gave the class, but she was very helpful. She explained about different plants and how to take care of them. You MUST write stuff down if you want to keep your plants happy and understand what it takes to be a GREAT gardener. There are MANY different plants...trees...herbs...bushes..pots...liners...fertilizers..heck SOIL to choose from..I like this place...it's a NICE way to connect to peace and prosperity so why not grab some back to nature in your life. The people are helpful..you just have to do some looking for helpers outside...but inside very helpful. I left there knowing more than when I first entered...now I wont say I know EVERYTHING about gardening but its a great place to start and I know if I need any help all I have to do is take a picture of my issues and bring it with me next time I visit. Oh and yes! there is a lot of parking..Also you can get you a little cart to push your plants around...I just think they might need to do a better job at the flooring outside because you do have to give it a bit of a push thru certain areas..and you have to realize there are older people or people who may not have as much strength to maneuver those carts thru such tight or broken areas..otherwise I truly had a AWESOME time!! give them a try! read more

Not the best experience. Went today at lunch time, parking lot of difficult to navigate in and out of. Spoke to two different staff members and they were less than friendly and helpful. Check out process was ridiculously long and archaic. Very slow cashiers, I waited in line for more than 30 minutes for four plants. Issues were not knowing prices of plants, cashiers ringing up Customers incorrectly, cashiers counseling customers on dirt and products- which should not be done at check out. Rainbow Gardens really needs to do a better job checking people out more efficiently and streamlining the entire process. People could not even walk around because lines were stretched back into the garden area. It was incredibly difficult to drag the plant carts through the thick gravel.I try to shop small but this was a very miserable experience and I will not be back. read more

This place is hugeeeee! Such a lovely place, it has a lot of plants variety, went looking for a monstera, and went home with a bunch of new kiddos. Bathrooms are decent, they sell aguas frescas, but still pack some water because there's tons to see! And no worries there's little benches across the nursery where you can sit to just take a break and enjoy the view. On the side note, prices are a little higher compared to Home Depot and Lowes. read more

Rainbow Gardens in Thousand Oaks is the best garden nursery in SA. The variety of plants is astonishing, from herbs, vegetables, fruits to perennials and annuals. Even though I live quite far from here, I still come about once a month with my wife just to look at the plants and walk around. My favorite part is the herb section. So many types of herbs that I didn't even know existed. Definitely recommend coming here if you even just a casual plant enthusiast. read more
