2/12/2026: This is not only a review, but also a how-to. Booking with the school can be its own issue depending on the day. To start, I'll explain the how-to and important things to know. My appointment was for color and cut. First: When calling, dial 1201 for the extension. This was the only one I could get to pick up 2 days the week I booked. The automated service gives you 3 options, 1200, 1201, 1202. 1201 seemed to get me through both times after frustration of get put on hold multiple times when trying the other extensions. Second (learned this after I arrived for my appointment): Black chairs are the least experienced, blue is middle and red is the highest. It is not mandatory for a blue chair to move up to a red chair to graduate. Different skill levels also come with different pricing. Third (and most important): Be prepared to spend time on this appointment. I arrived at 5:15 PM for a 5:30 PM appointment. I didn't walk out until 10:09 PM. Forth: An estimate will be discussed before proceeding. Fifth: The payment for the services will be taken at the end from the school itself. For tip, you must pay the stylist directly via Zelle, Venmo, or cash. No cash back available from the cashier. Come prepared and ask your stylist their preferred form of cash app. Don't be a jerk and skip this part. These stylist work hard and they have payments for school. Don't assume the cost of the services covers anything for them personally. THE SETUP: The space very much had a Visible Changes vibe. Multiple chairs in rows with mirror and people back and forth through the area. COLOR: Natalie (Naty) was a blue chair. Super sweet girl, very personable, and I could tell she wanted to do a great job. She had a school friend assisting her with my color. I have very fine medium hair (on the short side of medium), so I wasn't sure why she needed assistance. I have never had my hair done at a school, so I was hoping for the best and trying to trust the process. The instructor walked by a couple times and added some verbal instruction and assistance. I felt good about that. The instructor also helped Naty with my color mixture. I was charged by the bowl. For my hair, she used two bowls, each at $15.00. Total for the color was $30.00. I have not had color done in at least 6-7 years, so my hair took really well to the chemicals. This is something to consider. Hair that needs a lot of processing, is damaged or unhealthy, would change my plans for a school to do my color. All in all, I am happy with the color. CUT: Natalie seemed to have more difficulty with the cut. She was having an issue with the layering and the separating of the hair. I get it though. Just like everything else, her groove will come with more practice. All in all, I am happy with the cut. The haircut cost was $10.00. So, for $65.00 (color, cut, and a $25.00 tip), I was able to have a vacation hair that I was hoping for; something bright and fun. My regular place would be $75.00 for the cut, $245.00 for the color, and then the tip. I wouldn't get out of there for under $400.00! I guess that's the difference between how your experience will be viewed. I was hoping to save money. I had more expenses than I anticipated for my vacation. I am not a vain person and don't really care much about my hair. If it didn't turn out well, I know it will grow out (color) and back (length). I was looking for something fun, cost effective, and didn't have much to lose. You men have no idea what it takes for a woman to get ready for a vacation. Manicures, pedicures, waxing, hair, vacation clothes, and so on! It is so expensive to be us! Lol Speaking of mani/pedi, I saw nail stations at the school, but I did not see anyone attending them. That may be certain days they do main/pedis. Everything turned out great for what my expectation was and what I wanted. I'm not trying to down the experience at all. Naty and Rachel (second stylist) really did a great job. Naty is truly a hard worker. I could just tell by watching her. I have gotten lots of compliments at work and from friends, so that's just a bonus. Would I go back? I would for sure if I could request Naty, but she is graduating in March 2026. I probably will go back again and see how it works out with another stylist. The only thing I was slightly concerned about was the "money piece" that frames my face is a little lighter than I expected, but it will be fun for my cruise. Other than than, the color is truly beautiful. I have always been told I have an usual natural brown hair color. I'm sure it is tough to pick a color treatment that will highlight it. Dont go here if you don't want random charges on your credit card. I paid for the monthly subscription and after 6monts or so I canceled because I wasnt really going and taking advantage of it. A few months later I start getting charged the $10 again but through a different location that I had never been to (details were on my credit card transaction) I called the number in the transaction they didn't have me in the system so they couldn't refund me so I had to file a dispute through my credit card this was early 2025. Jan 2026 I get charged $20 I was out of town when it said I had service so I tried calling again got the run around disputed with my credit card... Again March 19th 2026 I'm seeing a pending $30 charge!!! I don't know how they're getting through because they were blocked by my card company and I haven't gotten any service done. Blondes beware! Do not risk your hair or sanity coming to this "school." I drove 40 minutes just to be told that the student I was scheduled with was not at school. Why not call me before I drive over to tell me you had nobody to highlight my hair that day? I had a job interview the next day. I had no time to scramble to try to find a last minute hair dresser. I stayed and asked them to find someone. The girl at the front desk sneered, ignored me, and let me sit at the front for 30 min while they tried to find someone to highlight my hair. I made that appointment two weeks in advance. The student they found ruined my hair, and then she wanted to take a picture of it for her portfolio. Look at the picture. I had to spend another 30 min trying to find someone to "fix" it, which took another 1.5 hours. Counting the drive, it took them over 4 hours to ruin and re-ruin my hair without even an apology. I still left with spots on the back of my head because of the botched job. Oh, and they made me pay for it. I was also yelled at and told to leave by a girl at the front desk with no sense of professionalism. I started to feel very discriminated against. The instructors were also rude and incompetent. What did I do wrong? Forget contacting their corporate office. They couldn't care less. It's all a money grab to charge students two times the cost of an average college bachelor's degree. No quality control. I would never ho to a hairdresser who "studied" at this company under instructors with zero professionalism in this kind of toxic environment. I booked an appointment only to find out the girl I booked with didn't even show up? The student who worked on my hair was very nice and attentive. The prices are great. Now about less than great aspects of my experience: 1. She styled my hair completely differently from the picture that I asked her to use as a guide for what I want. 2. The washing room set up, i.e. the chairs by the sinks, are extremely uncomfortable, specially if you have any back or knee issues. 3. The Paul Mitchell School is a HIDDEN GEM - even though it's right off I-10 near BW8 and I pass it frequently, I would've never stopped in until today! After reading the PM website where it mentions that all stylists are supervised by a trainer who is there, that was enough to get me to book an appointment. I made an appointment over the phone on Tuesday for 9am on Thursday (today) for a cut and balayage. All of their prices are shown on their website, which is nice, so you have an idea as to what you will pay. Upon entering, it appeared to be a large warehouse space with lots of salon stations along with a color bar for when a client requests color. Further inside is a room for stylists to wash client's hair. My appointment was at 9am and I was matched with a stylist around five minutes later. The stylist's name was Destiny. I showed her what type of balayage I was aiming for and her and her assistant got to work! Every so often, the trainer named Yvette, would swing by when Destiny had questions. Yvette seemed very knowledgeable and helpful during my time here. Once my phone battery was close to dying, I was stuck looking around at all of the other clients getting their hair done. You can tell that this school doesn't let just anyone play with hair - pretty much everyone I viewed appeared to know what they were doing! This was reassuring. After the balayage was complete, Destiny worked her magic on my hair once more - long layers. Yvette assisted with this as well. The cut looked amazing! Once done, Destiny blew dry my hair straight which amplified the amazing color even more. While the balayage took what seemed like all day, the price was definitely worth it! I'm used to paying $500+ for the same cut and balayage and I received it for almost a TENTH of that cost today! They also were running a 30% off special, which made the color even less expensive. I had a very disappointing experience with Paul Mitchell the School. After they submitting my FAFSA, I was told I would receive information about payments, but I never got any emails or texts. The first time I heard from them was when I showed up for orientation. At orientation, they claimed I hadn't submitted my application and asked me to provide my high school diploma for validation since it's from overseas. I sent everything they requested and was told I could do online orientation the next day and start classes Monday. After following up to confirm, I was suddenly told it was my responsibility to validate my diploma through a website they sent me. This was never mentioned before, and also they knew it takes time for validation my question here is why they told me I can do online orientation tomorrow and join classes next Monday while I have to do validating by myself and wait for results. This whole process felt unprofessional and misleading. They should have been upfront about diploma validation requirements before charging me an application fee and promising me a start date. My sister recommended I go here since it's well priced and I'm glad I did! I was seated about 15 minutes after my appointment time and my mom about 5 minutes after me. I got Maya and she was fantastic, and super sweet. As soon as we sat down I showed her how much I wanted to cut off and how dramatic I wanted the layers to be. Thats when she told me the wash and dry part was included in the price of the cut. I love my hair cut. I cut off about 5 inches and also got layers added in. I paid $15 for all of that. With that being said a star is taken away because when I asked at the front how much a cut was they said $10. Not "starting at $10", just $10. So not sure why it was $15? I did say yes to that price after who I think was an instructor came over to look at my hair and heard what we planned on doing to my hair. $5 isnt a big deal at all, it was just a matter of "why". So was the extra $5 for layers? Cause of my length of hair? Not sure, so wish there was more transparency on that especially since someone else was paying for my haircut and i had told them it was $10. I plan on going back though, cause $15 is great anyways. Keep in mind they are going to take their time with your hair to make sure it's perfect. I sat down at 5:45 and got out of the chair at 7:30. Didn't bother me because I expected it, but just so others can keep that in mind. Also don't forget to either bring cash or have one of those zelle/cashapp/vemo apps so you can tip your hair stylist, you cannot tip on the credit card. I had a referral from my coworker because she comes to PM school for haircuts. I was excited to get my partial highlights done, and it was the worst day ever!!!! I had student Bendu, who was in school for 8 months already and still had no idea how to part hair and wave highlights! The school has choices of beginners to advanced; Bendu was an advanced student. I understood that my service would cost $35, but in the end, I was charged $65 without explanation by the school or the" teacher". Bendu had a Spanish male "teacher" who came in at the beginning and the end, and every time he had an arrogant attitude. I explained five times to Bendu that I didn't want any toner, and I liked the natural look, but Bendu decided to shampoo my hair with purple shampoo to neutralize the color and make it cooler, even though I specifically didn't want it. I had grey-looking ends and a mid-part of the hair where it's porous and weak. When I told the teacher about my concern, he told Bendu to just finish my hair, saying I was fine. He didn't try to resolve the issue or listen to me, but instead tried to lie to me, saying I didn't have discoloration, as if I were blind. He never checked on Bendu's work during the service or offered to help. It was almost as if he didn't like her. I had blond baby highlights and left with grey-looking mid-part and ends and a solid, not waved top and sides. It is so bad and now I need to go to the salon and pay $300 and up for color correction!! The whole time during the service, I listened to a conversation between Bendu and other students that customers want everything cheap and because of that the students don't want to do certain services. I thought they would be happy to learn before finishing school, but that's not really the case! Bendu and her neighbor student complained the whole time. Bendu had phone calls where she was arguing with her children and raised her voice. It was very unpleasant and uncomfortable! Student hair stylists Alissa and Riley were wonderful!! Came in from San Diego and treated my niece to a day at Paul Mitchell. Both of these young ladies were so good. Riley helped my niece and she knew exactly how to engage her in conversation and make her feel comfortable. Alissa was also engaging and I enjoyed the conversation. I really wanted my niece to see a positive place where young people can learn a career. At 18 and 19 both of these did great!! Our hair came out great and my niece had a smile on her face and that's what mattered. Wow...staff is unprofessional. I showed up for my 9am appointment......9:45 I'm still waiting to be sat. I'm the last one of even people who came in after me for walk ins. Paid staff gets upset with me for asking for specifics about the wait/updates. No communication was given without me asking. No updates or regard for my schedule. Floor assistant manager mentioned that if I asked a second time about the wait that she would ask me to leave and mentioned she didn't care about my wait. Like????? 1 hour after my scheduled appointment time I got notified that it would be another 15 minutes until I got sat. Girls at the desk kept shooting dirty looks? I didn't understand how, as I was the one waiting for my appointment way after time with no communication. Other clients who scheduled a 9am were already leaving while I got sat. Layers are cut at an angle, not straight across all over. Length right at ear lobe. I should have left after gentleman was paying and unhappy. You get what you pay for ‍ I've been twice and was disappointed both times. I think it's ok for a basic trim and root touch up, but even those were just barely good enough. Me and my orange streaks will be spending $$$ to fix the monstrosity that was done by a student with a TON of instructor oversight. The instructor, Penny, should not have allowed the student to continue. Afterwards, I learned from a former student the instructors encourage mistakes for learning opportunities and they have zero responsibility if they make all your hair fall out. The teacher was very good at explaining but the student was obviously very uncomfortable and did not want to do the service bc she was simply uneducated. Did not get what I asked for or wanted whatsoever and had to go to a professional stylist to fix the pure unsymmetrical mess that was my hair when I left the school. It took over three hours for a simple cut which I understand these things take time but it was a horrible experience after hearing great things about the place. By far the worst service I've ever received!! I'm not one to write bad reviews, however, this place truly deserves zero stars if it was possible. I called earlier this week to make an appointment but I had something came up that day so I called back a day before my appointment to reschedule. I went in today, which is the day I had rescheduled my appt to and the lady at the front said I didn't have an appt for today. I told her that I had rescheduled it and I showed her the proof of me calling them the second time. She asked me what services I wanted and I had listed all four of them. She then told me to take a seat and she would find someone. She found me a lady and had told her that I ONLY wanted a haircut which was beyond incorrect. Might I also add the fact that the lady at the front desk was extremely rude. When I was on the phone with them the day I had made my original appt and the day I called to reschedule, I was told that my total was going to be $35 for all four of the services I had asked for. Today, the lady that was doing my hair told me that it would be $77. I asked how it could possibly be $77 when I was told two different times that it was $35 and not only that, but I've been here before and I've gotten the same services done but have never paid more than $40. She told me that the $35 was just "an estimate" which makes no sense because how is it that the estimate I was given less than half of the price they have given me today. I told her I didn't want to do it anymore because that was extremely different than what I was told and that was very unprofessional of them. I asked to talk to a supervisor and the supervisor was just as rude as the rest, acting like I was incompetent and I had no idea what I was saying. She kept telling me that the silk press by itself was $40 which once again made no sense because I've never paid more than $40 total for all four of the same services each time I've gone. Do NOT come to school here. The teachers are unprofessional, they guide you incorrectly which inherently causes you to do bad jobs on clients. The school is EXTREMELY unorganized and most of the time everyone just stays in the lunch cafeteria area on their phones sleeping or watching netflix, I would know because I've done it as well so many times. They promise to offer "specialty" classes but the teachers never show up and if they do it's so HALF ASSED it's appalling, so everyone just comes to school to clock in and we just have to be at school to "clock our hours" even though we aren't learning, it's cheating the system honestly. Teachers are always absent, the school is just like a jail, fights always breaking out, catty girls. GUESS WHAT! If you want to practice coloring your mannequins hair with dye, you have to PAY $5 PER BOWL OF COLOR YOU USE. Yep thats right, $14-20K for school but you have to go up front and pay $5 dollars to use supplies. If you go on a tour, its NOTHING LIKE IT. you see the "nice" establishment and everyone working, what you dont realize is that all the students are under prepared to even have the client they are working on and the results are going to be terrible and they don't even know they are doing anything wrong. teachers only care to engage in student drama. ALSO, the sinks are tattered and the front desk girls always have a rude attitude. The only good thing is that it's pretty clean, there is a janitor that is there all day so that is the only good thing. The bathrooms are always clean, and everything is wiped down. She even deep cleans the microwaves often. If you are passionate about doing hair and are eager to learn, go to ANOTHER SCHOOL. I had so much ambition and excitement to start this journey in being a hairdresser and this school slowly sucked my creative soul and drive, I won't give up, I'm attending a different school, but I do not want anyone else to have to go through this. The first visit went well. This was my second time They did not have me down for both services. Then, they didn't have developer- so one of the students lent us hers. My color was out- so Lee Ann tried to mix what she thought would be close. It wasn't- she tried twice to correct it. but I left with a totally different color (and 5 hours later) than when I came. Lee Ann is not to blame at all for what happened. I have total confidence in her- but the lack of organization in the school was upsetting. I had to leave, so they gave me clarifying shampoo and conditioner to use daily hoping it will help. it is so dark- and not even close to what I wanted. I have to go out of town as well. If you are not extremely particular or picky and are looking for an affordable haircut, this is a good option. Downside: I had to wait 35 minutes after my scheduled appointment time even though I had arrived early. Apparently the student I was assigned to didn't show up, so reliability may be an issue. I had signed up for a Phase II haircut (more experienced student closer to graduation), but ended up with a Phase I cut after the no-show stylist. In past trips I have had good Phase II experiences. I have never had a fast appointment here, so come prepared to spend a few hours between waiting, shampooing, cutting and styling, even for a simple cut. Went to PMitchell school in July. This school is going downhill. You walk in the door and it looks like college kids hanging out when they aren't working. This is a review of coloring(root touch up)only. They seem to operate under first come first served process(I had to wait almost 30 minutes after showing up on time for my appointment). Students and staffs are nice but they do use their status of being students as an excuse for all underachievement(even the instructors). I have had my root touch up in other schools such as Toni & Guy and never had problem with color match. Prior to leaving a review, I communicated with the school since I believe in giving opportunities to making things right. What I heard back was that it is a work of students. So lesson learned, go at your own risk. read more

I went to this school for four days and I never thought it could get so boring. I do not even know why I wanted to be in this field or go to this school in the first place. First of all, you have this giant stylist box and every single day, you pretty much break your back trying to get it out of your locker. The instructor was not very nice. Very stuck up. When it was time to practice hairstyles on the doll heads, other students were messing around and dancing. They did not seem very serious about what they were doing. The environment was very unorganized, stuck up, and immature. If you are thinking about going to cosmetology school, I would go anywhere else. Do not go here. The only reason this school is successful is because it is a brand name. That is it. The students, after they graduate, want to say that they went to Paul Mitchell! I am positive that Paul Mitchell would not be happy with the way the school, instructors, and staff are. read more

I visited the school today for more services than what I usually get which is just a wash and trim. Today I also wanted a protein treatment and flat iron. Upon arrival the receptionist only had me down as getting just a cut, which was incorrect. Long story short it was finally found of the services that I requested. Lack of of communication/organization. The reason for this review is teaching students to be sanitary. After being bumped by a rising star student I end up being placed with a student in the back of the salon. While I didn't mind being placed with her, I did mind her constantly running her hands through her hair and scratching in her face only to then put her hands in my head. I finally asked her to wash her hands right before she began flat ironing my hair and she still came back touching her hair then mine. Every time I silently cringed. For this reason I will not go back to her. It is highly unsanitary to put your hands in your hair and then put them into someone else's head/hair as there could bugs/a transferable scalp disease that you've now exposed their hair too. Please teach your students sanitation and to pull their hair into a ponytail or a clip if their hair is going to be in their way. read more
