Corey was so kind, professional and excellent in his role. Since the wedding, whenever we see friends and family they without fail mention (a) how great the wedding was, then closely followed (b) how amazing our DJ was. My husband, a groomsman and I met with Corey before the wedding at a bar and we went over how we wanted the wedding to feel, what kinds of music we wanted to hear and the procedure. He listened to everything we had to say and made suggestions accordingly when we were out of ideas. He was also doing our ceremony, so he found some not-as-popular songs that we requested and downloaded them for the occasion. He even found a maritime Canadian song that we loved! The day of went incredibly smoothly, with help from Corey. He never felt like he was overwhelming the wedding, absolutely zero cheesiness, and he played music that made my great aunts and my little cousins dance equally! The dance floor was jammed all night -- even on the slower songs! And Corey even gave an impromptu performance rapping Baby Got Back that had everyone on their feet. Amazing time! If anything came up over the night, like someone requested to speak or gave a song request, he would come ask me or my husband to make sure it was OK, and that was really appreciated. For us, music was a very important aspect of the reception. So when it came down to finding a DJ, we took it pretty seriously. As we searched, it became clear that there were a lot of stereotypical, cheesy wedding DJs out there who lacked experience and professionalism as well as the patience to figure out the type of music and atmosphere we wanted at our reception. Thank God we found Nate! He really listened to what we wanted, used his background and extensive experience to make suggestions and delivered fantastic music all night. Highlights of Nate's Service: Nate is an incredibly talented DJ with a lot of musical knowledge. Our reception included a Korean ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner and dancing and required music to suit each part. Nate seamlessly transitioned from one part of the reception to the next playing music that fit every aspect of night so well. But, what impressed us most, was Nate's ability to read a room and mix in whatever kept the guests dancing and enjoying the party. We had a wide range of guests (Korean relatives, 20-somethings, our parents in their late 60's) and Nate literally kept them on the dance floor until they had to close the venue at the very end of the night. In addition to Nate's abilities as a DJ, he was also incredibly professional, well organized and a pleasure to work with. This is his business and it was clear that he took it seriously. He was always on time (or even early) to our meetings, very responsive to emails/phone calls and very on top anything related to the contract, payments, etc. What really blew us away was that over the course of the planning process and even the night of the reception, many of our other vendors approached us and told us how much they enjoyed working with Nate. Nate really listened to what we wanted and clearly cared about making the music/evening great for us an our guests. Again, we chose to have an untraditional wedding that was very interactive. The ceremony went perfect. For cocktail hour, I provided over an hours worth of music from our favorite movies, television shows and video games. It was fun! I wasn't intending for this music to be played again during dinner. If this was the case I would have created a much longer playlist so that songs weren't repeated. One guest mentioned that they counted one song playing more than twice! Isn't this a faux pas in the DJ world? The moms decided at the last minute to change the grand entrance and he made mistakes announcing several names. We gave out nerf guns as favors and we were happy to see Shane enjoying himself and interacting with guests. However, I wish he would have been more professional and not gotten as swept away in the fun because we later found out that he accidentally hit my aunt in the face and laughed about it (he did apologize to her and it was okay). In addition, the venue had globe lights up high which he admitted to sticking several darts to. Other guests saw this and started using them as targets too. The venue was concerned about the fragile nature of the globes and thought they may have to keep the deposit (it was okay in the end). He announced the cake cutting would happen soon but I had to remind him to do it about a half hour later when guests started to take cupcakes from the tower. We loved the lighting and the monogram on the dance floor. We love that Shane and Paul embraced our not so traditional ideas and helped to make our day special. Unfortunately, I can't ignore how disappointed I was with their overall execution and communication. Lighting was one of the few elements of our wedding my husband truly cared about--and entrusted to BEL. We contracted them to provide three key lighting features: a large custom GOBO sign, pin lights for 12 tables to highlight our floral centerpieces, and a disco ball to enhance the ambiance. To be fair, the disco ball was executed beautifully. It created the exact mood we were hoping for and truly added to the atmosphere of the evening. That, however, is where the praise ends. The pin lighting was a major letdown. Despite several conversations with Jason, Fritz, and the BEL team about our expectations--particularly that the pin lights should spotlight our centerpieces for optimal visual impact in person, in photos, and in video--the results fell drastically short. The lighting was virtually invisible throughout the event. It failed to appear in our professional photos and videos, and not a single guest I spoke to recalled even noticing it. I specifically chose this lighting to elevate the look of the tables I had spent a great deal of time and money curating. That effort was completely lost. I reached out post-wedding to get clarity, and instead of accountability, I was met with blame. Their response was that I didn't book a lighting tech with my package. But isn't that the reason we hire professionals--to ensure our vision is executed properly? At no point during the planning process did they offer meaningful guidance or advise me on the limitations or considerations of pin lighting. Instead, it felt like I was being upsold, rather than truly supported. A simple conversation about whether pin lighting would achieve the look I wanted could have saved me nearly $1,000 and a lot of disappointment. As for the custom GOBO, it was initially projected in a way that was visually unappealing--cropped and too small. Thankfully, we caught this during a private venue walkthrough and were able to correct it ourselves before guests arrived. That should not have been our responsibility. To any future couples considering BEL: be extremely specific. Ask every question imaginable. Do not assume that you're hiring a team who will take ownership of helping bring your vision to life. In our case, what we received felt incomplete and careless--all because we declined to hire a lighting technician for the day. We expected a professional service. Instead, we received bare-minimum effort.

We contracted Boston Event Lighting for our association's annual meeting and workshops, exactly…read morebecause of the great ratings and reviews. I am the CEO of a non-profit organization with an international membership, and we discussed our meeting needs (part in-person and part virtual) with this company in advance. They promised a flawless execution and, based on the reviews we were confident that they would deliver. As you guess from my rating, they certainly did not deliver. They messed up presenters' presentations where slides were not displayed well, embedded movies were not played, symbols and letters were skewed (although they claim to have tested them in advance). Their equipment look old and didn't work for half of the time - they didn't even have functioning microphones. Even working on AV for our board meeting (simple zoom connection) turned out to be a half-day program, using their equipment which failed along the way. And the attitude of "I know better" was really exhausting. They wouldn't listen to our needs and tried to tell us how we should be running our meeting. We spent 5 days where everyone involved in the planning of the meeting had to micromanage the AV staff and struggle to get anything done. A very stressful experience. Overall, unprofessional, poor execution, and unacceptable delivery. Definitely a NO!
