Paul Freedman is a fraud. He charged me $3000 out of pocket and I didn't question it. Months later I was going through old insurance claims and saw that all the work he charged me for out of pocket had been paid in full by my insurance, and that I was not supposed to pay him anything out of pocket for it. If you do choose to go to this lousy excuse of a dentist, be sure you check your insurance claims and do not pay anything out of pocket until you have verified with your insurance. He also does really shoddy dental work. My current dentist is bewildered by the permanent retainer he has clumsily connected to my teeth with globs of cement. He missed cavities during my husband's check-ups. Literally find any other dentist in Boston and you'll be way better off. read more

Best dentist I've ever had. When I moved from Boston and lost the perfect bite guard that Dr. Freedman had crafted for me years prior, the dentists in my new city couldn't manage to make anything that fit despite multiple attempts. I reached out to Dr. Freedman and he found a way to create a new bite guard for me remotely and then created a back-up bite guard for me later. And he was also a top-notch proceduralist: the bonding that he created for my two front teeth remains intact and in great shape more than 10 years later. Dr. Freedman is a great dentist. I highly recommend him. He's personable and very competent. I've been seeing him for years. He uses the latest technology. He's up on the news of the day and you won't be bored for a minute. His assistant Susan is also wonderful. Note that Dr. Freedman has updated and moved his office since the previous reviews. This is my first full Yelp review, and I have to write it just for my experience with Dr. Freedman. I'm leaving Boston and want more people to know about this gem of a dentist and person! I've been telling my friends I have the best dentist, and they all raised an eyebrow, because it's a bit of a weird thing to gush over your dentist. But let me tell you in no uncertain terms: Dr. Freedman is truly a remarkable dentist . He is compassionate, thoughtful and honest about what work you will need and the most ideal and efficient path to getting it done with minimal pain. His work is really beautiful. He is constantly up on research and new findings in the field which he'll tell you about in detail. Echoing some of the other Freedman acolytes on here, I actually genuinely looked forward to my annual cleanings with him these past three years. Sometimes, I'd clear a work morning to take the walk to his building and then float out on the bliss of clean teeth and good conversation. He's hilarious. He remembers everything about you, from your work troubles to relationship issues, and gives you valuable life advice while you are getting a filling reworked. And he's someone you actually want to listen to without being able to respond to. His assistants are always sweet and attentive, too. My teeth have never looked better! I've been going to Dr. Freedman for 12+ years and find him to be not only a wiz at all things dental, but very accommodating in the event of any dental emergency I've had. Dare I say that he's such an interesting person that I actually look forward to seeing him and Susan (his asst)... NEVER in my life did I ever think I'd actually want to see a dentist, but the atmosphere in his office is friendly and his care very personal. I've recommended him to several friends who have asked me about my "perfect" teeth... Ha! Before I began going to see Dr. F my teeth were yellow and crooked. Do I want to share Dr. Freedman...? Hmm, Does one want to share the last piece of cake? Uh. No. But 'tis the season of giving. He's a great dentist, fun to chat with, puts you at ease (as much as can be had when there's a drill at hand), and a genuinely caring person. Procedures were quick and skillfully done, both he and Susan are great at what they do. I had my first appointment with him yesterday, and I already feel like introducing him to the family. Dr. Freedman is the best dentist I've ever had -- I actually don't dread going to the dentist now, which is saying a lot. He fixed the problems I had very quickly and his cost was reasonable. He's also friendly and very professional, and Susan, his assistant, is also very pleasant and great at her job. The office is conveniently located on Hawthorne Place, right next to MGH and the Shriner's Hospital, which is easy for me since I can hop on the Red Line to get to work after an appointment. I have recommended Dr. Freedman to many of my friends, and I wouldn't hesitate to do so again. I just went to him once, but I really enjoyed my experience. First off, he has a great location for anyone living or working in the West End, North End, or Beacon Hill. It was easy to make an appointment and they were able to schedule me promptly. Dr. Freedman is funny, interesting, and great to talk to. You can also tell that he's a really honest guy and isn't going to pressure you into unnecessary or unwanted care - for example, he mentioned that I might have some minor problem with my teeth but that it didn't need repair. I moved to a new city after that, and he sent me my x-rays via email without a fee or any hassle. Do not come here. I was scammed for terrible dental work that damaged my teeth. Paul Freedman charged me $2000 out of pocket (he quoted $1500 at the beginning and then suddenly claimed he had said $2000 all along) for orthodontic work (traditional braces) on my bottom front teeth, which I paid in full, that I only later found out was COMPLETELY covered by my insurance, which he billed $4000. My insurance said I should not have paid anything (especially not $2000!) out of pocket. But as it was months later that I found out, I was not able to dispute the charges. This was a total scam, but it doesn't end there. When the braces were being removed and the bonding cement was being scraped off, Susan's hand slipped and she scraped/polished down exposed enamel that was extremely painful. Later that day I noticed that eating, drinking, and even breathing was causing extreme sensitivity on the tooth she had slipped on. I called Paul Freedman to let him know, and ask him if he could take a look, and he instantly went on the defense, saying "I didn't do anything, you must have had sensitive teeth to begin with, just use Sensodyne"... The braces straightened out my teeth fine, and I asked for a permanent retainer so that they do not go back to being crooked (this was my second time wearing braces, and I did not want to wear them again). Paul Freedman does not know how to put on a permanent retainer, and ended up sticking it on with a glob of cement (which absolutely horrified my new dentist!). This makeshift retainer did not retain my teeth, and they went back to being crooked less than 2 months after the braces came off! ($6000 down the toilet...) When I asked him why my teeth were crooked again, Paul Freedman got defensive and tried to convince me to pay for another set of braces, or pay for Invisalign or look into other options. He then muttered about how it was me who had asked for permanent retainers, so this was my fault. Real mature. Paul Freedman's patient care and dental work is terrible. He spends more time talking about politics and showing you renovations to the Airbnb that he's working on (funded by the ridiculous out-of-pocket sums he earns by defrauding patients no doubt), and rushes through dental work, missing things repeatedly. Maybe if he had spent less time commenting on how "gorgeous" and "beautiful" I am (which made me extremely uncomfortable every. single. time.), and spent more time actually practicing dentistry, things would have been different. My husband noticed a spot of decay on one of his teeth before going in for his routine checkup, but Paul Freedman said he was all set and needed no work and wanted to send him along. When my husband asked him about the decay, he simply said "Oh, I didn't see that", and then addressed it. This is terrible patient care. "Missing things" is not acceptable, and will lead to bigger, more expensive problems down the line. My husband's colleagues (former patients of Paul Freedman) also discussed how disappointed they were with his dental work, and recommended my new dentist (who is excellent!). My new dentist was completely shocked by the treatment I had been receiving by Paul Freedman. He is a fraud. He should not be practicing. You just have one set of teeth. Do not damage them by going to Paul Freedman. read more

Dr. Freedman worked with me to replace two old veneers with new ones, and I had a great experience. It took a bit of time and a few tries to get just the right veneers from the dental lab - through no fault of Dr. Freedman's - and he was completely focused on my happiness, and did not stop until I was completely satisfied with the results. He squeezed in appointments and always returned phone calls throughout the process, so things could move along as quickly as possible. I am very happy with my smile now. I'm a nervous dental patient and Dr. Freedman and Susan not only put me at ease but made my visits extremely enjoyable - his office is comfortable, his conversation is great, and his care is unmatched. He's a genuinely kind and warm individual who definitely knows his stuff when it comes to dentistry, and he puts in the time and care to do it right. I really appreciated his straightforwardness and thoughtfulness when it came to scheduling and recommending work; I never feel pressured and know that he has my best interests in mind. I have been away from Dr. Freedmans Office for years and I am RUNNING back to him. He is the only dentist for me. He helped me with a TMJ problem and found the cause in 5 min. He replaced a big lower bridge and did it so well. I now need a top bridge and I want ONLY Dr. Freedman to do it. I don't work in the city any more, but I will make the trip for sure! BEST DENTIST EVER!!! One of his best qualities is if you ever have an emergency he will see you right away, holidays and weekends included. Now how many dentists have you heard that about? This is the worst dentist I have ever been to. His office and equipment are very old. He is definitely not friendly and disorganized. He was very pushy and wanted to make x-rays even though I told him I didn't need them. Dr. Freedman is excellent. I've been seeing him for 2 years now and have nothing to complain about. I have a crown on my front tooth and every other dentist I've seen in Boston constantly pressured me into having it replaced - but not Dr. Freedman. When I finally decided it was time for a new crown, he offered to give me free whitening as a wedding present. He's extremely easy to talk to and works around your schedule. Avoid at all costs! Worst Dentist experience EVER! My gums are still bleeding and I am getting nauseous from all the blood I have been swallowing. You think I probably had a Huuuge procedure done and that's why I still have the irony taste of blood in my mouth... not really... I was there only for a 'Cleaning'! I do not want to imagine how anyone would survive a more complicated procedure. First of all this dentist office needs a MAJOR update. His X-Ray machine, although certified, was built in 1982!! ALMOST THIRTY YEARS ago! I am only 3 years older than that machine and I believe that technology has come a great way since then. The whole equipment looked very dated (to say it nice), the light that dentists use to shine into your mouth was duct taped all over...the spitting bowl was nothing less than a funnel connected to a vacuum tube that I had to hold by myself, everything in this dentist office has seen better times (in the 60's), all colors faded or chipped away... the chair looked like it has seen lots and I mean LOTS of patients during its life of at least 40 years. However, I would be willing to overlook the devastating state of his office if MR Freedman at least would have been a good Dr. I was very much disappointed and my gums even more. From the moment I sat down, Mr. Freedman seemed to be chased by the devil... he did not even introduce himself and started right away. Scraping away and I could feel the blood flowing...he was friendly though...but thats no excuse since he is (I think at least) a dentist and not a telemarketer!
