This was their "best advice for me" and that I should come back and get both together. I only needed a haircut and this was the only chance I got (I am a SAHM with 2 kids and minimal backup except this day) so I said I would consider it but I need a cut now. It was 6 months since my last. That must have just not been the right thing to say bc I was judged, insulted during the entire session and I got the worst haircut of my life. I can't even get it fixed because it is so much shorter than I wanted. There are huge "texture" discrepancies all over my hair, the most obvious being in the back near my neck. There's also a strand of hair far longer than the entire length of my bob cut. I don't even understand how this happened. I'm so traumatized. I would never recommend this place and will never ever come back. I really had 1 chance to get a cut as a treat to myself, since I really don't have extra time to spare. And now I have to live with this until it grows out, definitely more than 6 more months. If I could give -1000 stars, I would. Please do yourself a favor and find a salon that can do a nice cut for long AND SHORT hair. WITHOUT A PERM TO MAKE IT ALL STRAIGHT FIRST. The skill level here is just so sub par. I could have done it myself.

And what a fortunate thing I was, because I have now found my new go to person for all hair related needs. I highly recommend Ai for your stylist. Reference this review and request her honest consultation for your intended style before getting a cut; I can almost guarantee you will be amazed by the end result. However, what ultimately made me leave a review was what Ai did NOT do. It was the fact that she advised me NOT to get a perm that day. She recommended it would be better to grow out my hair longer for the intended style. What refreshing honesty that prioritizes the best for your client instead of upselling any unnecessary service. I walked into NewHair with a quarter life crisis and a bowl cut. I came out 1.5 hours later having realized my full potential as a Temu BTS member, with the best haircut I've had in New York City. I woke up this morning with perfect hair and I needed to thank Katie Maloney! I'm a super picky redhead and she NAILED MY COLOR! It's so hard to get dimensional highlights when you have a copper mane. In my past experience with other stylists, they usually end up looking super contrasted like Kelly Clarkson or Geri Halliwell and I have to do a few base colors to melt them back in. NOT THIS TIME! They were and are absolutely perfect. I love my hair very bright orange-copper on the verge of looking fake, but still natural. Not an easy ask! Katie Maloney is a true genius. I'm just going to have to fly out from LA every time I need highlights from now on, but that's okay! Katie assured me that since they're all in the interior of my hair, they should be very low maintenance! I've washed it a few times since she colored it and now my ribbon-y highlights are a beautiful pumpkin color! I just realized that I haven't even mentioned my cut!!!!! I can't believe how effortless it is! I love that easy-going California 70's vibe. She made me look like a hybrid of Bridget Bardot and vintage Goldie Hawn. Trust me! Whatever curveball or weird idea I had, she made it happen! My hair is the most perfect ginger shag and not any SHORTER! So, thank you Katie Maloney. I'm blown away. read more

I was recommend to Julia Taffet, for color, by a friend earlier this summer...best decision I could have ever made! In NYC, we have so many options, it can be overwhelming and unfortunately my hair has suffered a few previous bad decisions. Ever since I started seeing Julia, my hair has held a fabulous color and shine without ever looking overly processed. She has a gentle touch, taking each color update very seriously, and always leaves me walking out of the salon feeling completely cared for. In addition to giving me perfect color, she also happens to be a true delight. In each appointment, she is efficient but has never made me feel rushed and is great to talk to - always a wonderful experience! I have continued to recommend her to my closest friends and coworkers, and after seeing her a couple of days ago I decided I needed to also recommend her here. Next time you're looking for a fabulous colorist, do your hair a favor, and put Julia Taffet at Paul Fox Salon, at the top of your list!! read more

I and almost all my friends head straight to Paul for great hair cuts -- I've been going to him since I came back to the city this year, but I know people who have been lucky enough to go to him for years. I love keeping my hair long and, unlike literally every stylist I've been to, Paul actually makes my hair look 1000 times better by giving my hair shape and movement, while keeping the length. I also recently got highlights from Mary, and I love love love them. She knew I was nervous, it being my first time dying my hair, and she explained everything she was doing as she did it, which was super comforting. I've had them over 9 weeks now and, though it's definitely time to go back in, they grew out perfectly and brightened to a really nice natural blonde, not brassy in the least. It's great to see them both in the new salon, and I wish them all the best. read more

I cannot speak more highly of Paul and his wonderful work. He's cut my hair for the past five years or so, with the occasional blow out and a few rounds of highlights in there too. He is not only highly skilled, but great at communicating what he suggests and why. Plus, I genuinely look forward to chatting with him! I was tipped off by a friend way back when, and I've probably passed along Paul's name to a dozen more friends and coworkers over the years... almost ALL of whom are still loyal clients.
