I scheduled this appointment because I have been struggling with a persistent scalp condition that has not improved despite using medicated shampoos and following treatment recommendations. I came looking for answers and a treatment plan. Instead, I left feeling stereotyped, judged, and disrespected. The visit began with the physician looking at my chart and asking his medical assistant how to pronounce my first name. They went back and forth about it while I sat there before I eventually said it myself. If he was unsure, he could have simply asked me directly. The appointment quickly shifted to questions about how often I wash my hair. While that can be a reasonable medical question, the conversation repeatedly focused on assumptions about Black women's hair care practices and whether Black women follow treatment plans. I repeatedly explained that I wash my hair, use medicated shampoos, and follow directions, including allowing treatments to sit as instructed. My reason for seeking care was that these measures were not resolving the problem. What frustrated me most was that I did not feel my concerns were being evaluated before assumptions were made. Rather than focusing on why my condition persisted despite treatment, the physician repeatedly questioned whether I would follow recommendations. At one point, after making a recommendation, he told me I probably was not going to follow it anyway. I responded that this was a very presumptuous statement. He denied making assumptions despite having just made one. I told him directly not to stereotype me and repeatedly attempted to redirect the discussion back to treatment options. Instead of feeling heard, I felt dismissed. Another concerning moment occurred when he told me not to leave and discuss his comments with the front desk staff. I told him that if I had a concern, I would address it directly with him, which I did throughout the visit. My 17-year-old daughter was present and witnessed the interaction. She was disturbed by the way I was spoken to and uncomfortable with the tone of the visit. During both of our appointments, the medical assistant repeatedly attempted to excuse the physician's behavior by saying he was "just joking" and that he was "good at his job." She also encouraged us to overlook his comments because he had helped clear her own skin. Patients should not need staff members to explain away or justify a physician's conduct. To be fair, I was given prescriptions and a treatment plan. My concern is not that I left without treatment. My concern is that the interaction was so negative and unprofessional that it undermined my trust in the physician. Trust is a critical part of healthcare, and once it is lost, it becomes difficult to feel confident in the care being provided. I have worked in healthcare for years and have never had a provider speak to me in this manner. Clinical knowledge is important, but so are professionalism, respect, communication, and cultural awareness. Patients deserve all of those things. Unfortunately, that was not my experience, and I will be seeking care elsewhere.

I returned to her because back then she gave me good vibes, tried to help with my situation, and even completed a document to ensure my insurance covered it. It was medically necessary. Today I came in for a mole consultation. I've had this mole my whole life, or for as long as I can remember, but it has slowly grown. It's been itching, and I'm now able to squeeze it between my fingers. Long story short, I was concerned about the cancer implications. It doesn't take long to notice that the business is 'money first, everything else later'. I provided my credit card and paid the $200 upfront cost, but had to once again provide this information when I arrived. I understood it was a cosmetic procedure, so it would likely not be covered by insurance, but was more concerned about the possible cancer part. Once you know this, and are okay with that, I suppose it is what it is. Once Dr. Rodney arrived for the consultation, she provided a few options: freeze it or surgically remove it to ensure the 'root' was removed as well. Of course, the surgical option would cost more. If she froze it there was the possibility I'd have to return due to its thickness. I opted for the surgery. The technician whipped out her payment system so I could pay right there on the spot. Perhaps others have run out the door before making payment? I don't know. I suppose anything is possible. We moved to another room, and Dr. Rodney proceeded to remove the mole. She numbed the area so I felt no pain. It was rather quick. I'll return in 10-days to have the stitches removed. I'll update that part after. Overall, it was quick & painless. Well, the only pain was to my wallet, which I would have minded less if they went about it another way. IMO, I prefer the Dr. Rodney of old.

My experience: * I paid $300 for the appointment and waited…read more90 minutes in the waiting room and another 25 minutes in the exam room before Dr Rodney saw me. * Dr Rodney did not examine my skin which has severe eczema! She had her assistants take pictures but the doctor never touched my skin, never looked at my skin and never got any closer to me than about 6 ft away. The doctor spent exactly 7 minutes in the exam room with me. * I asked her why do I have such severe eczema? Is this even eczema? She shrugged her shoulders at me and said 'I don't know'. I asked her what could be causing this issue. Is it dietary? Could it be stress-related? Is it allergy-related? Is it parasite related? She shrugged her shoulders and said "I don't know" to every question I asked her. * Dr Rodney asked me NO questions about my prior medical history or my lifestyle or my diet. She did not ask me about my level of pain or medications I've tried in the past or how I was treating my severe eczema at home. * Dr Rodney had no concern for my well-being! I have been her patient for several years and all she is ever done is give me steroids that don't work. * Dr Rodney's like a legal drug dealer because all she wants to do is give you a prescription and send you away... over and over and over again. Yet it is particularly difficult to get a refill. The doctor wants you to keep coming in and pay those $300 office visits so they can give you a different drug and send you on your way without asking any questions about you, your lifestyle or your condition. * You must pay in full before you even see the doctor. * And while you wait 90 minutes for your appointment, Dr Rodney is on every television in the waiting room and also in the exam room showing herself on a daytime talk show. Her appearance on that talk show is played continually while you wait... *Dr Rodney at Eternal Dermatology is not interested in curing you, examining you or exploring what could possibly be causing these chronic conditions. She did not physically examine my skin nor did she ask me any questions about anything at all! Wow. PATIENT BEWARE!! Dr Rodney at Eternal Dermatology does not care about her patient's well-being! Because if she did care about her patients, she would ask questions and explore and try to figure out what's going on with chronic skin conditions. What a terrible experience I had with Dr Rodney.
