This place has a very cute vibe and is trendy, no doubt. It's nestled in downtown just perfectly with indoor/outdoor type windows. If windows are open, it can definitely get breezy so keep in mind clothing-wise. They have really good resident djs that perform and free to get in as well, which can be hard to find. People always seem happy to be here and show it when they're getting down on the dance floor! There are mirrors all over the walls so even if you're in an area that would normally feel like you're boxed in, the mirrors really open it up. It's a cool idea and an even cooler effect. The drinks are good but definitely over priced. My drink was delicious but didn't seem very strong (maybe that's just how good it was) but my real issue was that it was almost all ice. My most recent night out at the Pattern Bar involved an Argentinian he, his friends -who he adoringly refers to as 'euro trash' and good times. Pattern is located in LA's fashion district (hence the name of the bar), on the corner of 9th and Main Street. Pattern Bar is dimly lit and a great place to do a bit of dancing (great DJ this past Saturday night), drinking and socializing. During past visits at Pattern, I've indulged in several of the amazing well-crafted cocktails, never tried the food. Nights are a bit hit or miss, in reference to the crowd -probably dependent on other events going on in DTLA, perhaps. Some nights can be packed full of people and other nights sparse. This was one of the last place I've been to, in the formerly known world. It was dimly lit, with soft music, a standard speakeasy bar and restaurant. Now come to think of it, we are all too spoiled with selections. There are 100 bars within a 3 mile radius, each with unique flavor and taste. Be prepared to drop some $$$ when coming to Pattern Bar. If you have the Hooch application, Pattern Bar participates in that program so you can get your daily drink for free. Also, Pattern Bar also touts that they are the only bar in DTLA that serves up CBD in your drink. What is CBD? It is an abbreviation for Cannabidiol which is some sort of compound that is found in cannabis. Apparently, it is supposed to have some medicinal benefits without getting you high. Anyhow, I tried their McQueen cocktail ($13) which consists of Hendrick's Gin, St. Germain, passionfruit, and lemon. It was really good that I had several by the end of the night. Its location is prime and the ambience is very contemporary yet classic, a black and white decor. The service was really friendly and efficient, though it seemed the AC weren't working so it was a little warm. The happy hour options were great, but then so were the rest of the tapas. I ordered the hummus plate and the truffle mac and cheese. I licked both plates clean and had I not needed to leave, I probably would've ordered another bite. I definitely suggest this as a spot to go for a quick, decent bite. I think because of the setting, it's more of a casual bar rather than that LA lounge--which is why I loved it. The drinks here are made well. The Old Fashioned that I had got me there pretty quickly. I'm sad that the late hour happy hour is no more, but no one seemed to notice according to the bartender. The vibe is casual, but classy. It's a great place to catch up with friends and to have a drink. There's a new LGBT night called Tonic that's bi-weekly on Wednesdays. If my liver was a runway, Pattern Bar would be the newest line from the hottest designer lighting it up. This place is a magnet for the fashionable Downtown crowd. While LA isn't home to many notable design houses, Pattern Bar could easily draw them here. You won't know if the men in the venue are just really into fashion or just really into men, but that's half the fun. The ladies definitely make you feel like you need to amp up your wardrobe and everyone seems much more interesting than they might be (or they actually might be). The DJ on this particular Thursday night was kick ass and really helped set the dark, luxurious vibe. Food is only served until 10pm, so sadly I didn't get to munch on anything (apparently you're not supposed to eat past 10pm if you want to fit in the sample sizes), but it's probably the one and only time I can ever say that's I've bought a McQueen and a Gaultier. The McQueen was everything I love in a cocktail (Hendrick's Gin, elderflower, and passion fruit), with the passion fruit really showing its true colors, and the Gaultier (Puerto Rican Don Q rum, fresh muddled watermelon, agave nectar, and fresh lemon juice) was a real surprise. Normally I shy away from watermelon in cocktails, as i think it's a dulling agent, but it was absolutely spectacular in this drink. Not to mention the steal deal at only $10 a piece. Vintage sewing machines and old patterns decorate the classic architecture of the building- dark floors, tall white walls, a large gorgeous bar, and crown ceiling moldings are all part of Pattern's elegance and charm. When the sun is out, the light and the air come in through large open windows. At night, the bar goes dark with the exception of candles and very dim light. It's chic, romantic, and lovely, and in my opinion has a classic, New York bar feel. I think that's really why I love it here. I reminds me of NYC... Drinks: Excellent. The Fashion theme is carried throughout the menu with fabulous cocktails named after designers like Chanel, Valentino, Dior and McQueen. Service: The servers are friendly and knowledgable. Extra points for the cute bartenders and waitstaff. Food: Lovely tapas are featured to enjoy while people watching or visiting with friends and taking in the vibe. Pattern Bar is located in the Fashion District right across the street Wooden Spoon. We came out to check out this new bar. A bit on the foo foo side for me but wanted to check it out anyways. It doesn't hurt to try something once. We tried their cocktails, The Valentino and The Gaultier. Fairly good drinks at a decent price at $10 compared to DTLA bars $12-$14. Typically, I wouldn't order these fruity type drinks since I'm more of a whiskey/bourbon drinker. It was a warm night and we were looking for something refreshing and willing to try their signature drinks. In fact, it was so warm, I wish they turned on the air conditioning at this bar. The Valentino is vodka based with a mango, orange, lychee puree. Not bad, a bit on the sweet end. The Gaultier is a rum based cocktail with fresh watermelon, and agave nectar. Really good drink and most def fresh watermelon as you get pieces of watermelon and and seeds in your drink. The vibe was decent here as the night progressed. Bartenders weren't to talkative, attentive, or friendly though. You figure they should be for a new bar in town. Attitude makes a big difference for new customers. It's a bit dark in the area so just be careful walking the streets down in this part of DTLA. It's located on 9th street which is a few blocks south most restaurants bars in downtown and just east of the LA Live but down some darker, less travelled streets. read more

The reason you are one star is because I left and returned at 1:30 am because I forgot my card. The bartenders greeted us and gave us the card but tacked on a 20 fucken percent gratuity that they claim was a fee for leaving the card minutes after they called out the name. I have bartending for years and I understand if you leave it overnight but this was just total Tom Foolery and unjust with no explanation. They got their money same day, and lost a good customer.
