Lets see. First of all, the place is filthy. The fixtures (fans, etc) are caked with dust, there are flies buzzing around the wide open containers of sliced citrus, and the bar is sticky. The drinks were fine. Nothing too great but not bad. The bartender, don't know his name because he isn't interested in being social, didn't ask if we needed anything nor did he ask if I would like another cocktail after finishing my first. He was interested in the young ladies who came into the bar though. The food-eh. Not worth coming back for. Please clean your bar. read more

They have a link for reservations on the website. We even had email confirmation of our reservation. When we arrived they told us they do not take reservations. They only had 2 people working and we waited 15 minutes just to ask about our reservation. Very disappointing. We left and found another restaurant nearby. Horrible customer service. read more

DJ Bella Ferrada was amazing!!! She was spinning nothing but slaps and had us dancing all night. 5 stars for the DJ. 0 stars for the ahole bartender Larry. He had no customer service skills, was rude, and made watered down drinks! Get a new bartender PLS!!!! read more

I came here for a friend's birthday. Pattern bar seems to be the upcoming spot for deep house music in the Downtown Los Angeles area. This place had a good vibe. They didn't have a cover and the bouncer was super cool. He held the door for us after he checked our IDs. The bartenders were super nice and attentive. They didn't have a huge selection of beer, but they had an extensive selection of hard liquor (it makes sense though... if you really want beer, you can just pop over to any one of the arts districts million breweries). Like any establishment they have a few signature cocktails on their menu. Pricing for the area is competitive. If you can't find street parking (because it's DTLA), they have a few parking garages in the area. We parked on 9th and hill and paid $9 for the entire night. We recently celebrated my boyfriends birthday at The Pattern bar. I can't express how smooth the whole event turned out! Thank you Misael for taking my reservation and communicating with me throughout the upcoming weeks. YOU ARE AWESOME!!! I needed to push my reservation time an hour later and he was very accommodating! When we arrived, the security greeted us with "we have your tables right this way" and he walked us all the way! Super nice! The DJ was sooooooo dope! It was techno night, all of our guests enjoyed the music and grooved through the night! Lastly but most importantly- the drinks and the food were delicious!!!!!! the bartender kept checking on us making sure everything was well! I am so happy we found The Pattern Bar, it gave us such great service and cozy feeling! Definitely coming back and recommending it to friends! The service is very laid back here. Ok, it's kind of lackadaisical to be blunt. There's usually one server during lunch. I haven't seen it crowded during lunch time. I do like the tamales ($6 each). I haven't tried the cheese tamales, but the pork and chicken are good. The three tacos dish is also tasty. read more

UPDATE: Took my cousin who came from out of town here. This time our bartender was Larry who was awesome. All the drinks we had were amazing, I asked him to make me any drink he wanted and he did not disappoint. He went above and beyond to meet my expectations from last time. The food was just as exceptional as the drinks. This place is truly special and can't wait to take other people here. Amazing drinks and service. Our bartender Efra (sp) went above and beyond helping us make our selections and making our drinks. We tried about 5-6 different drink and ALL of them were delicious. This was one of the last place I've been to, in the formerly known world. It was dimly lit, with soft music, a standard speakeasy bar and restaurant. Now come to think of it, we are all too spoiled with selections. There are 100 bars within a 3 mile radius, each with unique flavor and taste. I would take anyone today, because in reality, none of them is bad. I remember the days of wandering, on random streets, revolving doors, and neon lights. When is downtown going to fully reopen? Would the Pattern Bar survive the pandemic? I hope they do, because they've earned it. read more

My most recent night out at the Pattern Bar involved an Argentinian he, his friends -who he adoringly refers to as 'euro trash' and good times. Pattern is located in LA's fashion district (hence the name of the bar), on the corner of 9th and Main Street. Pattern Bar is dimly lit and a great place to do a bit of dancing (great DJ this past Saturday night), drinking and socializing. During past visits at Pattern, I've indulged in several of the amazing well-crafted cocktails, never tried the food. Nights are a bit hit or miss, in reference to the crowd -probably dependent on other events going on in DTLA, perhaps. Some nights can be packed full of people and other nights sparse. No cover at the door-it's worth a visit if you're bar hopping or looking for a place to meet up with friends in DTLA. Be prepared to drop some $$$ when coming to Pattern Bar. If you have the Hooch application, Pattern Bar participates in that program so you can get your daily drink for free. Also, Pattern Bar also touts that they are the only bar in DTLA that serves up CBD in your drink. What is CBD? It is an abbreviation for Cannabidiol which is some sort of compound that is found in cannabis. Apparently, it is supposed to have some medicinal benefits without getting you high. Anyhow, I tried their McQueen cocktail ($13) which consists of Hendrick's Gin, St. Germain, passionfruit, and lemon. It was really good that I had several by the end of the night. I liked this particular bar because the venue is pretty intimate yet lively and engaging with its music. read more

This was the perfect spot for a quiet clean happy hour. I needed a place to unwind, read and enjoy a peaceful bite in LA before a show at the Ace Hotel theater. Its location is prime and the ambience is very contemporary yet classic, a black and white decor. The service was really friendly and efficient, though it seemed the AC weren't working so it was a little warm. The happy hour options were great, but then so were the rest of the tapas. I ordered the hummus plate and the truffle mac and cheese. I licked both plates clean and had I not needed to leave, I probably would've ordered another bite. I definitely suggest this as a spot to go for a quick, decent bite. I think because of the setting, it's more of a casual bar rather than that LA lounge--which is why I loved it. The drinks here are made well. The Old Fashioned that I had got me there pretty quickly. I'm sad that the late hour happy hour is no more, but no one seemed to notice according to the bartender. The vibe is casual, but classy. It's a great place to catch up with friends and to have a drink. There's a new LGBT night called Tonic that's bi-weekly on Wednesdays. It's pretty chill and a great space to mingle outside of the usual spaces. The DJ played house music which had a perfect loungey yet mildly dancey vibe. Just what I was looking for! read more

Pattern is the best house music bar in Los Angeles. Had so much fun with my friends on a Saturday night, not to mention the drinks being on point. Definitely would recommend coming to Pattern Bar. Love this place, Larry was incredible and has a great magnetic energy that makes you want to come back to this bar and bring friends to experience this energy. 10/10 experience. Really enjoyed myself. Ambiance is incredible, great crowd, great drinks and the doors are open so you don't have to worry about feeling enclosed. Outside seating is also available. This place is the best bar to be. It doesn't matter if it's a Thursday or a Sunday night, this place always cracks. The staff is super friendly and really nice. The food is amazing. This bar showcases a lot of local dj talent and the best part is that there's no cover. If you like house or techno music, I highly recommend dropping in and checking it out. read more

I had ordered a round of Mexican candy shots (which taste like pure tobasco and ketchup). One of the bartenders was watching like a hawk on how the shots we being made by another bartender. After the shots were made the eye watching bartender did a taste test out of one of my shots that directly being served to me. That is BEYOND unprofessional. If he really wanted to do a taste test he should have pour himself a SEPARATE cup for HIMSELF and taste it discreetly or be confident that it was being made well. That was uncalled for and it also didn't help that he was rude from the start. I've tried to avoid being served by bartender (wore a backwards hat and is the only one with a beard that night) read more

I really liked the music and venue.. heck even the Chanel was quite tasty. This drink had jalapeño tequila like and cilantro and the service was fair. The reason you are one star is because I left and returned at 1:30 am because I forgot my card. The bartenders greeted us and gave us the card but tacked on a 20 fucken percent gratuity that they claim was a fee for leaving the card minutes after they called out the name. I have bartending for years and I understand if you leave it overnight but this was just total Tom Foolery and unjust with no explanation. They got their money same day, and lost a good customer. Misael needs to learn how to gage this type of situation that could easily escalate customers.. read more

New to my bar all stars list is Pattern Bar. Love the vibe, the food and Larry & Katie always take good care of me. I haven't tried any of their signature cocktails yet, but Larry makes a killer margarita. As for the food, you have to try the cubano sandwich. Hands down the best cubano ever. I've also had the ceviche and tacos... both really good as well. I also had a bite of the Mac and cheese which was solid. Since we can't give 1/2 stars, I'm rounding up to 5 stars, but what would make Pattern Bar perfect would be two things: 1.) It's extremely hot inside the bar. I've been told the AC has been broken for over a year. I can't even imagine how hot it would be in the summer. 2.) Move or preferably mount the tv somewhere else. Currently, the tv is bar level and at the end of the bar. Every time I'm there some clueless person parks themselves and their big head right in front of the tv. Once was during the freaking World Series! See the latest clueless big head from the other night (attached pic). With these two improvements Pattern Bar will be a 5/5 stars... and well deserved. read more

So after having a reservation for weeks, I get a text from this place saying someone booked a private event so my reservation is cancelled. How about instead of accepting $$$ for a private event that will deny customers their reservation, they make the private event work around what is available? Terrible way of doing business, but I hope they get lots of $$$ and engagement for the privileged private event attendees.

When we tried to get his attention, he responded in a dismissive and rude tone, and as he walked away, we overheard him make an inappropriate comment about us under his breath calling us out of our name and we felt very disrespected so much so that we just left. We completely understand that weekends can get busy, but consistently dismissive and disrespectful service--especially across multiple visits--is not acceptable and we've also seen him be rude to other guests as well. Aside from this issue, the venue itself is great, which is why we gave it multiple chances. This place gets busy the minute they open their doors so make reservations prior. 1. Korean Aguachile: fresh tilefish sashimi with finely sliced cucumber and white floral decor simmered in ice cold kimchee broth they pour at the table. Soooo good. Must order. 2. Soy Marinade Blue Prawn: My favorite dish of the night. Huge raw blue prawns (head attached) marinaded with soy sauce. Served with barley rice topped with Ssam jang (type of bean paste sauce), and seaweed paper. You wrap all ingredients in the seaweed paper to make a hand roll. Soooooo delicious. Can't walk out without trying this. 3. Beef short ribs: good but nothing unique in its flavoring . Beef steak(medium rare and super tender) that's lightly marinaded/glazed (so not overly sweet) with kbbq/short rib sauce. This is one of their fan favorites so I suggest you try it.. 4. Chilled Acorn Noodles: chewy cOLD noodles made with acorn (just like the acorn jelly side dish we eat). The noodles are seasoned with Korean Cho-go-chu-jang (Gochujang paste), crispy cucumber slices, loads of dried seaweed flakes, and perilla oil. And you just mix them all together. Sooo good and paired well with the short ribs. Incredible. 5. Bluefin tuna and trout Bibimbop: like a poke bowl but so much better. Rice at the bottom with loads of lettuce strips, bluefin tuna sashimi, radish slices, and cavier. Seasoned with Korean Cho-go-chu jang (Gochujang paste with a twist of vinegar). Very good as well. For drinks we tried the shikhye slush (shikhye is a Korean sweet rice drink dessert). They used a slushy shikhye base with warm cinnamon and ginger spices and pisco for a kick. Also tried the Sujinggwa manhattan which is sujunggwa (traditional Korean cinnamon ginger dessert tea served cold) and a single malt. This was fabulous. Overall fantastic experience. Fantastic food, cool ambiance's. And great service. Highly highly recommend this place!

Tables looked available around 5pm though so walk-ins could be possible. Ambiance: Outside was nice and inside looked dimly lit and romantic. We were seated promptly and service was good. Food: Rice slushy had a strangely strong cinnamon-like taste to it that traditional rice punch doesn't have which was so overpowering, it made it difficult to go back for more sips. Oysters - good though small, enjoyed the kelp mignonette Korean Aguachile - Delicate tilefish completely overwhelmed by cold kimchi broth with actual icy slush in it and small amounts of fish Steak Tartare - The hot stone bowl seemed to defeat the purpose of a tartare, as it cooked the steak once mixed. The perilla leaves were also cut in large strips relative to the beef. Chilled Acorn Noodle - The perilla oil was nonexistent in flavor though the dish didn't need it and was good without. Overall, portions were small for the price and dishes weren't well-executed so despite being excited for more Korean options in West LA, I'd much rather make the drive to Koreatown for better portions, prices, and flavors.

The experience itself lasts about 40-60 minutes, which felt like the perfect amount of time. The only downside for me was that the bathroom is shared for both genders. For safety reasons, I personally wish they were separate--so ladies, I'd recommend going with someone just to be safe. You just never know. They also give you a little treat afterwards, which was a really nice touch and a sweet way to end the visit! Overall, I'd definitely come back and recommend it to others

We were able to get a seat on the coach and order drinks from the bar relatively quickly. Prices were pretty typical of LA ($18-25 a cocktail) but I would say I probably won't come back this late as it's in a shadier part of town. They have a bouncer and it was fine inside, but it's not a place where you can bar hop if that's what you're looking for as the area is seedy. Would be interested to try the food next time, but again, the safety and comfort of the light of day.

NOVEMBER 26.2025…read more I've been through many iterations of The Library Bar over the years... from small and cozy secret bar for those that work in the looming skyscrapers of Downtown LA to being some noisy urban hip hop affair that served godawful drinks (see my past review!), and on back to being a calm and casual neighborhood bar again. The interior never changes... dark... illuminated by candlelight... the bust of Shakespeare over the fireplace, the shelves of old books-- all of it remains intact. But this latest Library Bar seems to have finally dialed in what was always sorely missing in that it showcases a conscientious staff that all seem to know how to mix drinks while treating the customer well by leaving them be. On one night my date and I share a "Black Manhattan," basically a Manhattan with the generous addition of Averna, and it's terrific. On another night, I go for Happy Hour and a few pints of Guinness on draft that are surprisingly proper and go well with their excellent and, I'm told, homemade Hummus & Veggies Plate. The music at this current Library Bar is pretty much on point and is never so loud as to interfere with the conversations that patrons seem to come here for... something you should come here for too, and maybe at Happy Hour specifically if you're looking for a nice bump in your day and to spend an hour, well, happily.

And we had to call her back over to ask for a second time. SMH. The food although flavorful was so ridiculously priced it was not even funny. I got a "ribeye ". Was literally eight thin slices of steak, like 1" x 1" size for $42! No, I will not be coming back here for so many reasons. The view is great. Castaways is definitely not what it used to be in the way of quality but at least you get more and you get the view. But definitely not worth it going to this place. It was quite a frustrating evening. Also, if you do decide to go here, just bring a coat when it's a little bit cooler in the evenings cause it does get cold up here and getting the staff to manage the heaters correctly is a whole other frustration. Oh, and valet is your only option for parking up here. It's kind of crazy because a few years ago you could just go park in the lot or the garage that's available there but now they're charging you $11 and it's chaos. I will say that the view up here is great though so if you're willing to forgo all of that for a view for like a one time date or something like that, it might be worth it

The fried chicken biscuit was so good (highly recommend), I got the hot sauce on the side and I'm glad I did so I could control how much of the flavor per bite. The biscuit was soft and bouncy and the chicken was cooked to perfection. The fries are salted and peppered, and I think the coleslaw is too. They had a special and the steak was also good. They charge $1 for ranch on the side I'm guessing they have a rotating coverage because we talked to three different server, two were way nicer and helpful than the other one. But overall they did a good job and helped explain things and make accommodations. I'll definitely be back next time I'm seeing a play at the Ahmanson. (about a 3 minute drive minus the crazy parking situations)
