Great vibes. The aesthetic and ambiance are genuinely nice, the kind of place you want to sit and stay a while. Food is a bit lackluster and the drinks are definitely overpriced. 1.5 STARS The service was not good. We had a reservation and walked up to the hostess stand upstairs with one couple in front of us. We were never acknowledged by the hostess. She walked away with the first group and did not return. We arrived within the time frame of our reservation, but after 15min of waiting and the hostess had not returned, we went looking for help. Ultumately ended up being seated 45 min after we arrived and when we were finally at our table, we were ignored for another 15-20 min. We had to ask another worker for help ordering a simple glass of water. We finally ordered with a different worker who helped us switch seating to a table to hold the dishes a d drinks we ordered. Maybe 1 hr after first being seated, we received food but no water (it was in the 80s). After our food and drinks were served, we were again ignored for the remainder of the time. The hostess refilled the water for the group next to us but did not look at us or even offer water (our glasses were empty). Then the hostess told the group next to us it was last call but again did not acknowledge or talk to us. We were never offered last call or anything . We had to get the hostess' attention for the check and she sent another server over. The person who was our server had never approached us the entire time. It was very confusing and the service was not pleasant. The hostess was rude, did not communicate and tried her best to ignore us the entire time. The only employees who were not rude or dismissive were the non-servers/hostess. The gentleman at the desk on the street and the other young gentleman keeping an eye on the establishment were very nice. The second gentlemen came over to say bye and ask about our experience. We gave candid feedback and he told us he hoped we gave the establishment another try. No other employee said anything pleasant to us as we were preparing to leave. Food and drinks were mid. The ambiance was nice, the DJ had a vibe, the rooftop setting was enjoyable, and the carne asada was good. However, everything else seemed to go downhill from there. The drinks were disappointing--the Prosecco was flat, and the West had an unpleasant aftertaste. We asked a few times for the heat lamp to be turned on, that never happened, and the server was very defensive. Name began with a C. While Manager Jai did try to assist and address the concerns, by that point the birthday girl was already ready to call it a night. Very fun. Felt upscale and classy. Loved how big it felt once you got inside. It doesn't seem like it at first but it's because this place gets packed. I didn't feel as if this place was selective. They do make sure you go in dressed well. This is for an older, younger and all around age group. We didn't feel singled out at all. I came with my hubby and our daughter. 3.5 I have mixed feelings about this place. I really wanted to love it because I genuinely love Issa Rae. Is it a vibe and is the rooftop cute as ever? Yes. But is the security ODEE off rip and leaves a bad taste in your mouth even before you enter the establishment? Also, yes. They're extremely strict, so be sure to read their website thoroughly. Came on a Sunday afternoon for an event and we ended up staying through the night. We didn't have reservations but it was open seating and a decent amount of places to sit. I will say, the music was great the entire time we were there, lots of good R&B. The food and drinks on the other hand were mid at best. Fabulous vibes and ambiance. Lots of chairs and fire pits to sit around. There's two bars. The one in the back can only do well drinks/cans - no cocktails. Popped in on a Saturday night around 9:30p. There wasn't a wait at the door and everyone eas polite and welcoming upon entering. We did not have a reservation but were able to sit at a table until their reservations started rolling in. We were celebrating a birthday and were provided free shots with a generous pour. We tried the shrimp tacos and corn...both were great and what I'd expect from the owners of the establishment! I'm a huge fan of Hilltop and enjoyed The Parlour on Melrose when they had it. Prices are a little steep, but it's a great atmosphere overall. Service was cordial, but not friendly and the DJ was excellent that night. This place is worth at least one visit. read more

I had a Really good time here! A friend was coming here for her birthday, so I had to make the trek downtown, an area I don't know much about or, always seem to get lost in (no pun intended). After mapping out the parking nearby, I didn't really want to pay $20 to park when I may not even gain entry, so I drove around and found a meter that was FREE on a side street. Upon walking up to the door, I heard screaming and I realize it was a group being turned away. With the way they were carrying on, it's better off they didn't make it upstairs. I gave about five minutes of breathing room before going up to the door. After security check, I was thankfully on an elevator with two nice guys who had been here before. Stepping off the elevator, there are some larger tables to the right, and the small reception desk is in front of you. Up a small ramp, the bar is to your left, and some seating and other tables line the other side, concluding with the taco truck in the far back. Friends arrived nearly half an hour late, and although the original table was understandably given away, we were set up with another right across from the dj. Plenty of drinks were ordered as well as food which smelled really good. I had the Lucky Charms and this was okay; I guess I wasn't a fan of the Aplos Calme hemp. The only downside was the 3% service charge that is one of those 'competitive industry employee fees' that most probably don't even notice since they don't read the menu or are too drunk (however it can be removed if you request). On the flip side, what I really enjoyed about this place is the cool crowd; everyone-staff and patrons-I encountered was really friendly from the guys in the elevator to the hostesses/bartenders, and even the patrons in line at the bar. Typical for me, I saw someone I knew from another part of my life before the party arrived, but it was someone I liked so this was an unexpected surprise. Normally I pass on things that go on in downtown, but I'm so glad I made the effort to show up this night. If you've been to Lost at night then you already know it's a vibe. But have you been for brunch? We ordered chilaquiles, beyond meat tacos, guac, french toast sticks, beyond meat burrito, and ceviche. So basically the entire menu. Plus sangria. The food and drinks did not disappoint. It was like an upscale version of a food truck except the food wasn't as good as a food truck. They were out of chips & guac so we ordered a quesadilla and shrimp tacos, instead. Those two items were already more than $35. I appreciate the effort on presentation, but the quesadilla and tacos were mid. I honestly would not go back to pay $16 for the tacos or the quesadilla. I'd much prefer a food truck on the street rather than eat here again. They gave us churros on the house since they were out of guac and they were good with the chocolate. I'd rate those a 7.5. It took like 20 min to get a drink, with no clear lines., and the bartenders were kinda mean, but that's neither here nor there. We didn't get any food but lowkey I'm not ordering food at a bar like this. The ambiance is cool though. I attended my 35-year high school reunion here at Issa Rae's rooftop. It was beautiful with nice modern decor and cool vibes.. They have a sufficient number of seating areas and tables. It's spacious, with a DJ spinning good music on the turntables. I ordered ceviche, and a Hennessy drink called "Loose Ends" that was very tasty. The ceviche had good flavor and was just enough. The drink was good with a nice amount of alcohol. Service was great. All the staff were very nice and helpful. This is a great rooftop bar to hang out and socialize for any type of gathering. Note: This rooftop is adjacent to Hilltop coffee shop and the donut place. All three of these locations are owned by Issa Rae who is doing a phenomenal job of having places that we all can relate to and hang out. Never again! I was really looking forward to supporting and visiting this establishment but the experience was everything less than great. The doorman downstairs was very rude! We had a restaurant at 5 but wasn't allowed in until 5:30. One of our friend wasn't allowed in because of his shirt but the guy that checked us in upstairs was wearing pajamas. The drinks wasn't good. They were out of everything excerpt tequila. The entire place smells like weed. We left and went to a whiskery bar around the corner which was a great experience! My friend hurt himself on a chipped glass and the drinks are overpriced and disgusting. Enter at your own risk! I would never try another restaurant with Issa's name on it. I had a really disappointing experience here. I was denied entry because I was wearing a plain white T-shirt, with the explanation that it could be associated with gang affiliation--even while the staff acknowledged that I obviously was not in a gang. As ludicrous as that explanation sounded, I initially took them at their word. Two other men wearing white shirts were also initially stopped, which made me think that, however strange the policy was, at least it was being universally enforced. I was then told that another guest could enter because his white shirt had a logo on it. What really changed my perception was what happened next. After I turned away and looked back, I watched the same staff member quickly welcome inside the two men in white shirts who had previously been stopped. At that point, the explanation I had been given no longer appeared consistent with what was actually happening at the door. The staff did suggest that I could go buy another shirt nearby and return, so they technically gave me an alternative. But I wasn't interested in spending money to comply with a supposed rule that I had just watched them selectively enforce for other guests. I was simply trying to meet a friend who was already inside. If the venue is going to make discretionary decisions about who gets admitted, I would much rather they be straightforward about that than invoke "gang affiliation" and present it as a universal dress-code rule while applying it differently from person to person. I can't know the staff member's motivation, and I'm not going to claim that I can. But based on what I personally witnessed, I left feeling singled out, profiled, and discriminated against. The inconsistent treatment was upsetting enough that I chose not to return. read more

We also learned that you can bring food up from Downtown Dough inside of Hilltop. Next time I'd probably eat down there and then go up to Lost for drinks. The shrimp tacos were good but expensive. The Quesadillas weren't worth the price but came out fast. The dj came around 9:30 and that was nice but not a lot of people were dancing just kind of standing or sitting around. I love this rooftop I hate that it's starting to get a reputation for not letting "certain people" in. I've been 4 or 5 times. I always go on a Thursday. I'm a weekday chill kinda girl and Lost is always the vibe I need. Music is usually old and new school R&B, crowd is grown and chill and it's just a relaxing good time. Views are great. Lost.. I think that's what I was that night lost.. We visited Lost DTLA for a night out after seeing it all over social media , it looked stylish, upscale, and well curated, so we made reservations and dressed for the occasion. Getting in was seamless. Even though there was a long line, our reservation allowed us to enter right away, and the host staff was friendly and efficient. There was a small hiccup when another guest attempted to take our assigned table immediately after we were seated. Once we notified the host, it was handled, but it did create an awkward start to the evening. The food didn't quite match the elevated vibe presented online. Portions were on the smaller side and the flavors felt fairly standard for the price point. The drinks were well made, but definitely expensive. When I switched to mocktails, I was surprised they were priced similarly ($17), which felt steep especially for a mocktails Service throughout the night was slower than expected and lacked a bit of attentiveness. One thing that stood out was the inconsistency with the dress code. The Yelp page states: "We invite guests to dress in a stylish yet relaxed manner... Please avoid overly casual items such as beanies, hoodies, sweatsuits, sweatpants, flip-flops, shorts, jerseys, athletic wear, or graphic T-shirts." Because of this, we dressed accordingly. However, once inside, we noticed several guests wearing baseball caps, beanies, and jerseys. It created some confusion, as the overall atmosphere felt much more casual than what was outlined online. The highlight of the night was definitely the view it's beautiful and adds a lot to the setting. We happened to go on a Saturday night around 11pm and waited in line to go up to the rooftop for about 20-30 minutes. Once inside and through the security check, we went up the elevator and walked into a little lounge area but then a few feet in front of us was the entrance to the party area and "vip tables" which can be purchased and ran about $1200 at that time. It was pretty crowded so we just headed straight to the "bar" (table with the square machine and options of drinks). We got 2 tequila sodas and a double shot which came out to about $110. (Quite expensive). Since we went so late, the food "truck" was closed but they had a few options that sounded good. All in all, I'm not sure I'll be back. read more

I'll start off with the ambiance and service- I'm definitely gonna give both 5 stars. It's the right vibe for a date night or girls night out. Only thing I didn't care for was the house music playlist. It sounded like the music you hear in department stores. It made me sleepy lol. Now as far as the food and drinks...The food was basic, small plates, and not worth the price. I didn't like that the signature cocktails were premade. I ordered the Novacane. Barely any alcohol in it, as it tasted like juice. If I come back, I now know to eat before I come, order drinks off the cocktail menu, and make reservations for when the DJ arrives. We recently visited Issa Rae's new DTLA rooftop and had an amazing time. The establishment does get busy after like 8 pm so I highly recommend that you make reservations. We made reservations for 7:15 for a party of 6 and they let us know that the time limit is typically about 90 mins to 2 hours. After that time limit you are welcome to stand or sit in the open seating area is it's available. I will definitely return but would prefer to come in the earlier time frame to miss the loud crowd. We ordered papa taquitos, shrimp tacos and they were pretty good. read more

Came here for a Mango and Ginger DJ show And security turned us away for my husband wearing shorts because it stated it on their "website" but the event tickets we bought didn't state that , but yet some females before us had gotten in wearing "shorts" Security then proceeded to let us know we could be let in if we paid the 400$ for bottle service or pay 100$ cover charge which seemed like a scam. We then went around LA to purchase some pants for my husband and came back just for them to tell us they were now allowing shorts . Security Manager "Joan" is the one that ended up changing the rules and laughed when we told her we went around LA to purchase my husband some pants and told her how upset we were over the inconvenience because we had to spend unnecessary money and lose our time. It starts out around six as a casual but stylish rooftop location for post work drinks and then moves into club atmosphere around 10 PM. If you wanna sit down, you need to make a reservation But the earlier you go the more likely you'll be able to get a seat in the open seating area. They kept things nice and warm with dozens of heat lamps and several really cozy chairs and fire pit set ups. Would highly recommend. If you come after 10 o'clock, expect a wait in line and dressed to the nines. Welcome to the neighborhood! First and foremost, this staff is hospitable! Everyone was welcoming and attentive, from the doorman to the wait staff. This experience has been uncommon lately due to the pandemic.  We were celebrating a good friend's birthday and tried this place.  I ordered their Lucky Charms, a non-alcoholic drink. It was delicious and refreshing, perfect since I drove. The place is generously spacious, and the decor is inviting. The oversized couches and chairs are perfect for a large group, and the fireplaces add a cozy touch on a chilly Los Angeles night. The music was good, and it wasn't too crowded on a Thursday night.  Their kitchen is in an Airstream trailer at the back. There is a kiosk, or orders can be placed with a server. We did not try their food, but the delicious aroma filled the air.  Given that they are relatively new, I did not mind some hiccups because their hospitality was on point.  Seats were available at the bar, which caused an awkward bottleneck. There were two bartenders and a barback. At the end of the bar, a line was designated for ordering; however, the available bartender flagged other patrons to order outside of the line. Patrons seated at the bar were not inclined to slide over to make room for the line.  Overall, this place has potential! read more

Went to Lost last weekend for a friend's birthday. As some of the other reviews mentioned, security did the absolute most. The dress code is deeply unclear, based on the wild range of super casual to upscale. The vibe of the rooftop is great, however; I wouldn't just come here on a whim. Highly recommend making a reservation. The service is okay, everyone was friendly enough. I had a mocktail and chicken tacos, which were both delicious. We visited Lost last weekend, a group of 4. We made reservations and got there around 8/8:30. There wasn't a line to wait, however I will say I came a few weeks prior for a friends birthday around 10 and there was a long line and we were told they were at capacity, but the birthday girl upstairs told us it wasn't packed at all. I ended up leaving the first time because I wasn't waiting in that long line but if u wish to avoid the line, it's probably best to go early because they will make you wait, even if it's not packed. When we were seated, we waited about 30 minutes for a waiter to take our orders but nobody came. We went to the front to ask and were told someone would be with us. We ended up ordering out first round at the bar because the waiter took too long. By the time the waiter came, we ordered food and a 2nd round of drinks. The food came out pretty fast, but the drinks took a while. We had to flag down our waiter to ask about the status of our drinks and when we did, she asked "what drinks?". It appeared that she forgot to put in our drink orders but she insisted that we didn't order any. All 4 of us confirmed that we did in fact order a round of drinks. She took the order and we eventually got our drinks but boy was it a hassle. It's almost better to just go straight to the bar for drinks. We enjoyed the ambiance and the DJ so we'll be returning but will be mindful of how we get our drinks and the time we arrive! read more

The security failed here. My girlfriends and I have been wanting to check out Lost since they opened. We came all dressed up and cute. However, one of my friends was wearing stylish, gold sandals and the security said they aren't allowed. The website suggests to "avoid flip flops" among other items. My friend would have worn different shoes but she recently had foot surgery. Despite her informing security about her surgery and request for accommodation, they still denied her entry. ADA non-compliant much? My friend will be following up with them about this. Just gonna leave this here to warn other ladies as they turned away a number of other women wearing nice sandals while we were there, even if they're high end brands. Many others were dressed very casually and wearing sneakers as well, but they had no problem with that. Really double standard. read more
