Went here because I was told I had to try the Carne "Louca" de Panela which translates to "crazy meat from the pot" in Portuguese. It is made of a dried meat and yuca. My friend told me that the actual name is Carne seca com aipim na manteiga de garrafa (Dried meat with cassava in bottle butter). The meat is initially salted and dried so it is salty. The yuca is cooked in butter with no other seasoning but you mix the two together as you eat it and the saltiness of the meat is counterbalanced by the yuca and it is a good dish. What really makes it a good dish for me was the homemade hot sauce that they had. I had some leftovers and the waiter said he would charge me for a small bottle of it but it was worth it. The problem was when me came back from the kitchen he said that they only had a little of the sauce for that day so I couldn't get any to take with me.
I would recommend trying this dish from the North of Brazil, especially with the hot sauce. read more
