We are celebrating my 34th birthday early!!!

Christina has been our bartender for the past 2 day and can I just say, YAAAASSS!!! We have had a great time watching the astros game! Christina directed us as to where we could grab some great food to go and bring it in to eat it at the bar! Highly recommended from 2 current out of town bartenders.

Last stop at the end of a long night but I wish it would've been a first. There was nothing particularly exciting going on but it had a cool vibe and was most comfortable for us than any other bar on the strand. Bartenders were prompt and friendly. Drinks were reasonably priced and they had Corona on tap which is extremely rare. Local hangout for sure.

The food was astronomical, mark my words BEST PHO ON THE ISLAND, there I said it. The Pirate Seafood pho with chicken was dynamic with a flavor that I kept coming back for. It was like that scene in Ratatouille where the critic Anton Ego is at a loss for words. If there's one thing I know about Phos they usually take 3+ limes and a dollop of sriracha to make it taste right...but this? Perfect as is. Needs not a touch of anything more. My only regret not getting here sooner. Spike the owner, a loving man who cares about atmosphere, personalized service and taking care of your needs. First of all, the vibe and atmosphere are exactly what you expect and exactly what you want. Nicole, our server, was outstanding. Not only was she attentive, but she knew the food menu and the beer menu inside and out. She's funny, spectacular, and worth going just to see her. BUT the food is just as AMAZING!!!!!!! We ate as much as we could, but took leftovers home for breakfast tomorrow :) On our way out the door, we met the owner, Tom. What a man! Both of us originally from the east coast, within 20 miles of each other, so we bonded instantly. What. A. Man. So friendly, so kind! Food 10/10 Atmosphere 10/10 Staff Friendliness 100/10 Tom, Nicole - because of you both (especially Nicole), along with how delish the food is, we're already planning on going back tomorrow and Monday to try the rest of the menu!

The menu looks like a fun mix of an English tavern (bangers and mash) with tex Mex (burritos). They also have interesting options like Rueben egg rolls. Our bartender Sammy was very friendly. Would definitely return. 4 stars Night 2: came in for dinner the day after coming for drinks. Bri was our server. Very friendly. Food was great. I got the seafood pasta and my husband got the steak bomb. We shared the spinach artichoke dip as an appetizer. He had two Moscow mules and I had a white wine. All very good. Came out to $86 before tip. No smell this time so I'm bumping it up to five stars. I hope to stop into this place on future visits to Galveston.

When trying a new restaurant, I rely heavily on customer reviews to help make my decision. So, on Saturday, August 1, after a long day of shopping, my family and I decided to give Doc Holliday's a try for an early dinner. We knew it would be busy since it was one of the last weekends of summer before school started, so we expected a crowd. Despite the restaurant being packed, our service was friendly and surprisingly quick, which I definitely appreciated. I had visited Doc Holliday's before and really enjoyed my meal, so I was looking forward to going back. Unfortunately, this visit was a completely different experience when it came to the food. I recommended the baby back ribs to my niece because I remembered how much my boyfriend raved about them on a previous visit. Unfortunately, the ribs she received were extremely tough. She couldn't cut them, much less eat them. I had also loved the roasted Brussels sprouts during my previous visit, so I ordered them again. This time, they were very disappointing. They didn't appear to be roasted at all and seemed more like they had been boiled, with very little to no seasoning, and then covered in balsamic glaze. The rest of my family had similar complaints about their meals. Overall, the food seemed to be lacking the seasoning and flavor we expected. What made it especially disappointing was that this was not at all my experience during my first visit. I understand that restaurants can have an off night, especially when they are extremely busy, so I'm not someone who normally rushes to leave a negative review. However, when several people in our party have similar complaints, I feel it's worth sharing. Unfortunately, this experience was enough that my family has officially banned me from choosing a new restaurant for a while. I really hope this was simply an off night because I genuinely enjoyed my first experience at Doc Holliday's and would hate for someone else to have the same experience we had this time.

The servers were all very pleasant and knowledgeable with a few good recommendations. Started with an Expresso martini. It tasted like a shaken shot of Tito's Expresso vodka, which I like, it's strong, but would have been good shaken with a little Baileys :) The Gulf Shrimp was the star of the night. Very fresh, nice size for the price and I love their house made tarter/raumelade sauce. Split the Buttermilk Chicken Sandwich with my husband. Pretty disappointed. Did not have a buttermilk coating, it was more like a frozen chicken patty:( the slaw was tasty, but a little saucy for me. Loved the Fries and Homemade Chips and their Ranch was good! Nice bustling atmosphere with multiple televisions and nice comfortable bar area.

When we walked through the doors, we were shocked how large a space it was, but it is very open, bright, and inviting. We were seated in one of the semi circular booths, which was enjoyable. We ended up deciding to order a variety of appetizers, so that we would have room for dessert. We had no idea that even appetizer portions were huge! We ordered chicken wings, onion rings, and a garlic shrimp appetizer. We were not enthralled with the garlic shrimp appetizer, the garlic was so overwhelming that it made it hard to enjoy the dish. The onion rings were huge, and there was an enormous amount of them. We could barely make a dent in that appetizer. The real star was the chicken wings. They were extremely well done, and the Thai chili sauce topping was excellent. Despite being overwhelmingly full, we decided to go forward with splitting the crustless pecan pie dessert. It comes out warmed, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. It was chuck full of pecans, and was absolutely excellent. The ice cream was a delicious counterpart to the pie. Our server was super friendly, and we enjoyed our experience at Nick's immensely. We would highly recommend!

Our lunch was absolutely delicious. Here's the rundown: 1 appetizer of ahi tuna won-ton, 2 raw oyster samplers, 2 Galveston Island Brewing blondes, 1 dirty gin martini with blue cheese stuffed olives, and one to-go bottle of Cat Five hot sauce. I am not a huge fan of tuna, but this ahi/poke style of tuna with actual umami flavor elevates a mild sushi gateway fish to something yummy. The oysters were a delight. Shucks has a color coded system in place to help you identify which oysters are which, but my tired old eyes can't seem to make their system work. I did have two favorite kinds but could not tell you what they were. No matter, they were all superior - and small like east coast/ Canadian bivalves are. Dan's beer was tasty and swillable and my martini was appropriately dirty. We got the hot sauce because you can never have enough condiments and cats were referenced in its name. Our server was friendly and efficient. Interesting to me, I was mildly making fun of their music selection and soon after it changed. Coincidence? Dunno, but I appreciated the change to Motown! Bottom line. So, so enjoyable and something we don't do too often these days. It was an expensive meal, but worth the splurge.
