I eat here on a regular basis, Spike makes an amazing margarita with fresh squeezed juice. The pirate rolls, wings, Pad Thai with Grilled Pork (I prefer level 3 spicy because habenero keeps me humble), Banh Mi Sandwich and Vermicelli bowls are all on regular rotation. See you at the bar-but not on Tuesday, because they are closed.

This was a tough spot to rate. Came because they were so…read morewell rated, but I am not sure they deserve the high marks. The food was good, so the reviews were correct there. The pho was freshly made and the Bahn mi was delish. The bar "cannon balls" were obviously from frozen. I can accept it his but was disappointed with the price for something they just warm up. The pricing was a sticking point. I can accept that venues on the seawall need to cover more costs, but this quality didn't match the charge. Finally, the building in general just felt off. The layout was odd. All high seating (bar stools) makes it difficult for anyone with mobility issues. The theming is thorough, going with the pirate motif, however they also just phoned it in for most of it. The tabletops are screwed into the barrels beneath, with the exposed heads sticking above the table top. The sparse decorations placed inside are mostly from a Halloween store or Pirates of Caribbean props.

If you're cruising the seawall looking for a solid meal with a side of ocean views, Nick's Kitchen…read moreand Beach Bar should be on your radar. We discovered it through Galveston Restaurant Week. They offered three course meals so diners could get a feel for what they offer. The portion sizes are insane. I never finish my meal, always take it to-go. You'll never leave hungry. Service is always warm and friendly. Our waiter, Aaron on our first visit was an absolute character. He kept the jokes coming. Nick's is part of the legendary Gaido family, an iconic seafood dynasty.

The shrimp Mickey was amazing and an unexpected flavor. I was expecting something closer to scampi flavor but it had way more depth. The dipping bread was also spectacular! The artichoke dip had huge chunks of artichoke in it so they did not skimp! Chilled shrimp was nice and fresh! My older kids didn't love the calamari but I think they were just overwhelmed by the tomatoes. The creamy tomato sauce that came with it was so delicious I would buy it jarred! My youngest reported loving the sliders and the fresh fruit cup was good fruit not cheap fruit. The sole reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the hostess humiliated my oldest, albeit unintentionally. He has a brain issue and is small. When I tried to give him an adult menu the hostess was questioning him on his age and was visibly surprised he is a teenager. I tried to shut her up but it ruined the experience for him bc he doesn't want to discuss medical info to make people stop talking. I could see if I were trying to get an older child a cheaper kid's meal but that wasn't the case. I think she just needs better training to not grill people. Just let them eat. The waitress was amazing and the bartender made the drinks PERFECTLY!

Our waiter was…read morefantastic and even offered to move us to a larger table before we had ordered drinks so we'd have more room for plates. Good thing he did, because we ended up ordering lots of appetizers and definitely needed the space! Everything we tried was outstanding. The ahi tuna wontons were perfectly crispy and packed with flavor. The ceviche had a great balance of ingredients with just the right amount of spice. And the fried pickles were hands down the best I've had anywhere. I'm not sure if it was the ranch, the pickles themselves, or both, but they were incredible. For entrées, we had the salmon and the gumbo. We were so full from the appetizers that we didn't eat much of them, but both were excellent and I would absolutely order them again. The Old Fashioned was also delicious, with an interesting flavor that tasted almost like brown sugar--perhaps from the walnut bitters. I highly recommend this place. The menu is so diverse and well executed that I can't imagine anyone not finding something they would enjoy. We'll definitely be back!

Why 4 stars? Because this was a slightly elevated experience from the Galveston norm…read more --- --- --- We spent a couple of days in Galveston and this was how our journey began. I had so many places bookmarked and many of them had nearly identical cuisines, mostly centered around seafood. But Shuck's had the highest ratings of the bunch, and the key to my heart is an extra tenth or two of a star rating. I ordered the panko parmesan oysters to start, which were... fine. My wife ordered the fried pickles, and while fried pickles are pretty much the same no matter where you try them, they indeed hit the spot here. We ordered our son some chicken tenders and fries, which I was happy to steal a few bites of, despite it being pretty typical. You can't throw chicken tenders in my face and expect me not to indulge. Lastly, we finished with a lobster roll. And while we prefer the Connecticut style lobster rolls (hot with butter), this New England style version was pretty enjoyable too. Our server was super friendly and treated us like we were old pals. It was a nice way to start off our Galveston adventure.
