I saw Dr. Wilbur for many years (about 2000-2006) for a very painful arthritic neck. He did a great job fixing me up and it hasn't bothered me in years.
Near the end of my neck treatments, on perhaps my last visit to him in 2006, I asked him if he could fix a frozen shoulder that had been bothering me for maybe 6 months. "Yes," he said, "but it will hurt!" I told him to go ahead because the shoulder was very painful, my motion with that arm was severely restricted and my physical therapy treatments were doing absolutely no good. So he set to work and sure enough, it was painful. But my shoulder recovered starting immediately and soon was back to normal.
So when my lower back started really hurting this year, I immediately thought of Dr. Wilbur. Unfortunately, I didn't go to him right away. I hoped that with massage and yoga the pain would resolve. But it didn't. So this week I went back to see him. He worked miracles and with just one visit I'd say that I am already 50% improved. I think that within just a few more visits I'll be back to normal. And he has given me some very helpful tips in maintaining my spine and neck in good working condition.
Dr. Wilbur is extremely friendly and funny. I have always enjoyed my visits to him and he is still as pleasant as ever. I think he uses humor as a therapy method. He doesn't preach about exercise - he gets his points across with jokes and good-natured teasing. He chats a lot but I think it is a relaxation technique. Just when he's chatting and you are not expecting it, he'll suddenly pop your painful joint into its correct position. If you know that move is coming your body and muscles might stiffen up and resist so he needs your body to be relaxed.
There is one negative review here about Dr. Wilbur. I have never felt that Dr. Wilbur acted inappropriately. He does joke and chat. Also, chiropractic is a very hands-on healing art - like massage. If you are squeamish about being touched, it probably isn't for you. But for everyone else, I highly recommend Dr. Wilbur. read more
