My visit to Noodle Max would be one of these unexplained phenomenon. I was really hoping to try this hyped up beef noodle place in Richmond Hill, only to have my hope squashed by a long line up at 4:20pm in the afternoon. 4:20!!! WTH!!! On a snowy, slushy late afternoon, I blindly (and slowly) drove my way aimlessly to Aurora. I remember some Asian restaurant getting rave reviews up in Aurora and that being Noodle Max (maybe it wasn't so aimless). If you are someone who believes in destiny, I can tell you destiny will occasionally give you sxxxxy things. Noodle Max would be one of them. Noodle Max's main offerings are Lan Zhou style noodles and was it ever an unauthentic and underwhelming experience. I wouldn't go as far to say the soup was tasteless like water, but it's pretty bland. While the soup for Lan Zhou noodles are not generally crazy strong in flavour, it should still have the taste of spices. The beef slices were also pretty tame in flavour. They were ok. The main plus about their noodle was the portion; quite big. The noodle had better texture than most store bought noodles, but it did not have the proper floury taste and the limited flavours from the soup was not able to hang onto the noodles. Aurora used to be a black hole in terms of dining options, but not anymore. How Noodle Max continued to garner such a high Yelp and Google rating befuddles me.

It could use a bit more char. Szechuan Fish Fillet in Peppercorn Chilli Soup (4/5) which had tender and perfectly poached fish fillets. We wish it was spicier but otherwise this dish was tasty and full of fragrant spices. Egg & Chive Pancakes (4/5) was packed with filling and the pancake had a really crispy texture on the outside but soft on the inside. It had glass noodles inside as well. It has a faint aromatic flavour that wasn't too overpowering. We poured some of the Szechuan peppercorn chilli soup inside too which tied in all the flavours together.

The Dim Sum items we ordered (3) were excellent, but the Spicy Beef dish was very mediocre. The beef was tough and dried out... With way too much cilantro... Honestly not very good, nor was the portion very large for the $23 price. I also ordered a steamed rice which was hard and frankly tasted like a packet of Uncle Ben's Minute Rice. Service was quite slow considering the place only had 3 tables including ours. Overall I would not come back... Price was very high, at $66 before tip, for what we got and really not very good. Won't go back.

We ordered a fruit tea, hot and sour soup, Shanghai Pan Fried Noodle, salmon avocado sushi and tuna avocado sushi. All of our dishes were fantastic! THE FOOD: Fruit Tea - The fruit tea was delicious. It was the perfect combination of sour and sweet and I absolutely loved it. Hot and Sour Soup - My husband loved the hot and sour soup. He said it well balanced, tasty and a bit spicy. Shanghai Pan Fried Noodle - My husband ordered this dish with the crispy noodles and he really enjoyed it. It comes with shrimp, beef, chicken and assorted vegetables. He loved the combination of protein and found it sweet and tangy. Salmon Avocado Sushi - I really enjoyed the salmon avocado sushi. I found it really fresh and not too fatty. It melted in my mouth and they had gluten free soya sauce to go with my sushi. Tuna Avocado Sushi - I found the tuna avocado rolls to be really fresh as well. It melted in my mouth and was delicious. I honestly wish this restaurant was in Toronto because it is so good. I highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely visit again if in the area.

This place was authentic and knew how to cook properly. When it first opened we loved the food but found the portions a bit on the small side and slightly more expensive than it should be. But still really good. Fast forward a few years and prices still high plus quality of food had dipped. Received a nice gift card for my birthday and found that it just wasn't what it should be in quality especially with the pricing. Disappointed.

The order taking and service itself was quite longer than we would've thought it would be. We probably waited for our order for at least 15 min. We ordered the Chirashu Ramen, Tonkotsu Miso and Agedashi Tofu. However, Sapporo Miso Ramen was mistakenly served to us instead of the Tonkotsu Miso which was quite disappointing. The food were great. The broths were light and nicely balanced with flavour, not too salty. The shrimps in the Sapporo Miso Ramen were cooked perfectly but the pork in the Chirashu Ramen was a bit chewy. The soy sauce served with the Agedashi Tofu had a hint of sweetness which was quite refreshing to the palate. Overall, the food satisfied our cravings but the promptness and accuracy of the service could be improved.

It's quite a small restaurant with very little seating (we saw lots of people turned away during peak dinner hours), so a reservation is recommended on Fridays or weekends. Overall a nice spot and would visit again.

We tried the following Dishes: Bombay Chicken, Hot Sour Soup, Zen Special Chicken, Chicken Fried Rice with Chicken on Top, Manchurian Fish, Hot Garlic Shrimp, Papaya Salad, Thai Green Curry Chicken, Steamed Chicken Momo, Crispy Ginger Beef I normally wouldn't choose to order soup, as I like to fill up on the heartier dishes but I was absolutely blown away by their Hot and Sour Soup. It's not overly sour and to me it was the perfect flavor profile. It was thick and loaded with tofu and chicken. The Bombay Chicken and Zen Special Chicken were both flavorful and unique chicken dishes. The crispy ginger beef was cooked to perfection; i'd definitely order it again. If you're looking for something tasty to drink their mango Lassi is superb. It's sweet and creamy. I loved it! The Thai Milk Tea was also a knock out. It was sooo good!!!
