We met at a continuing ed course in Southern California (yes, those thrilling weekend getaways where we learn about root canals and try to stay awake after lunch). For a year, we treated a guy in his 30s who'd lost more than a few teeth. And during that time, I realized something: Scott is that guy. The one who's calm under pressure, insanely smart, and actually listens--to both patients and colleagues. He's the kind of dentist who somehow explains complex stuff without sounding like a robot or a YouTube tutorial. Oh--and he used to teach at the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine. I'm not saying the course instructor was bad, but let's just say Scott was the one dropping the real gems. Look, Scott's not the bargain-bin option. And thank goodness--because you don't want a discount pilot or a budget surgeon, right? Same goes for teeth. He works with you to make sure you have the best smile possible and with the least amount of discomfort or pain. I often read reviews of dentists who are rip off artists, or tell you about cavities in your mouth that don't exist. It makes me sad to know there are crooked dentists out there. People are already scared to go to the dentist, let's not make it worse by ripping them off, too! Worst dental visit of my life…read more I went to Dr. Wise's office as a new patient. When I arrived the receptionist said "Oh, you decided to come anyway." Wait what? She went onto say "they were supposed to call you, one hygienist call off today." NOBODY ever called me. I would not drug myself to the dentist first thing in the morning just because. She said we can still get you in. I was taken back to the dental chair, where I sat next to a fussy screaming child as I waited to be seen. The hygienist was the first to see me, as she was doing the cleaning, she slipped a couple of times painfully hitting my gums. After, Dr Wise came in, he performed the exam and took xrays and ordered upper and lower molds of my teeth. I inquired why I need them for a basic check up and cleaning. He said "I require that of all of my patients." I pushed back a bit because I did not feel that they were necessary. He demeaned them, so they proceed with the molds. Then he went onto order additional xrays. I cannot imagine how much ran up my insurance bill for all of the unnecessary (never used) molds and additional xrays on top of the cleaning and exam. I did not received an invoice. At the time I was in my mid 20's, with no dental issues and I have always taken good care of my teeth, and practiced good hygiene; I actually floss regularly and go to the dentist twice a year. This experience has always bothered me.

She will over charge and tell you that you are covered for a procedure and now you have made an appointment thinking it's covered .....then she sends you a bill to pay it or within days they will send it to collection for the money.
