    Patagonia Outlet Freeport, Freeport ME

Upmarket and definitely crowded today as we move deeper into Autumn and the leaves are on the ground. Lots of folks shopping Patagonia this afternoon. Sweaters and outerwear are the prime drivers here and they have a good selection of sizes and colors. It is quality and that is reflected in the price. I did not happen to spot the upstairs "outlet" area, which might have helped me overcome sticker shock. [Review 10028 overall, 1612 of 2018.]

I drove to Freeport to check out LL Bean and the LL Bean factory, but found nothing I wanted. I kept looking at the LL Bean stuff and thinking, "this is like a lesser version of Patagonia's ___________". Well, I looked directly across the street and there it was. A Patagonia outlet! I've never been to a Patagonia Outlet before (turns out based on their website, there are only four Patagonia Outlets in existence). It's sort of small store (I'd say the size of a CVS or Walgreens) and they sell a mix of new retail stuff and outlet stuff. I got lucky and they were doing a clearance of last season's fleece, meaning it was an extra 40% off the already reduced outlet price. I was surprised to see Better Sweaters and Synchilla on the racks in normal sizes (not just XS or XXL). I ended up buying a Better Sweater 1/4 Zip for a total of $34.80. A great deal! The normal outlet stuff is still decently discounted, but remember that a discount off an expensive jacket is still going to be an expensive jacket. I was surprised that they had lots of their popular items available. Things like Nano Puff, R1, and Triolet were discounted somewhere around 10-20%. Some of the items were tagged as irregular, but I couldn't find anything wrong with them. Had it not been for the extra 40% off already discounted fleece, I don't think I would have purchased anything. The normal outlet stuff you can probably instead just go to REI and use the 20% member coupons when they're available.

$.25 for the bag- but nice bag!

I live in CT and called this outlet location on a whim trying to find sizes for my kids for next winter.

Obviously I would never hold that against the store or let it affect their rating. However, when I went inside and explained to the greeter that a vehicle had been hit and asked if she wanted to check whether the victim was one of their employees, she said that employees typically don't park in that lot, customers do, and seemed very unconcerned. When I said I just wanted to let someone know in case the victim came inside and could she tell them that I called the police and gave them the person's license plate, the employee asked me if I wanted her to call a manager out. I was just really put off by that as this is the first point of contact for people entering the store and I just genuinely wanted to try and help. We did spend some time in the store and in the compound. I like that they have an entire section where you can customize products and gifts and have them embroidered. I haven't seen that before and I thought it was really neat. I didn't care for any of the products that they were offering at that time which qualified for the embroidery, but if that's something you're looking for, they offer it here. They also had dog items and the store is dog friendly. We brought our pup in with us but again she just didn't find any toys that were the right size or that she was interested in. The trip here was kind of a bust for us but I can see why some people might enjoy shopping here. We were told by another traveler that this is a great place to stop for deals, but I didn't see many of those either. There's a campus comprised of multiple buildings and that was a bit confusing. It also seems like it would be easier just to have everything under one roof, but that's just me personally.
