It was a special day for us....our 50th anniversary so we made a reservation at this fairly new local restaurant. Smallish place but love the decor. Great black n white photos of famous people enjoying pasta! They bring complimentary rosemary focaccia to the tables which was incredibly delish! We ordered the caprese which was nothing to write home about but it was tasty. Our mains were the gnocchi and the lasagna bolognese. Portions are fairly generous and our meals were tasty. read more

I don't leave many reviews, but Pasta Vino was excellent. I ordered the Tonnarelli Al Frutti Di Mare and it was exactly what I was craving - a fresh seafood pasta. My server was very attentive and was on top of everything, and the restaurant vibe was great. As other reviewers have mentioned, it's located in a strip mall, but don't let that stop you from visiting. read more

Pasta Vino, is your next Italian restaurant spot to visit! You may not be in Italy, but when you are here, it can be quite similar! Pasta Vino is a charming restaurant just outside of Newport, RI in Middletown. It reminds me of many restaurants in Italy. Charming and quaint, and with a very chic vibe. This new restaurant just opened a few months ago in the Polo Center. There isn't a lot around the area since it looks like new development but I bet there will be in the future. There is a large parking area which is very convenient. We did not make reservations on a Sunday night, but I probably would recommend them on much busier nights. We sat at the lovely and sophisticated bar. We both ordered a few glasses of Italian wine. I was starving so I got an Insalata Mediterranea which was an Arugula salad with tomatoes, cucumbers, and olives. It was just enough for one and very good. I was torn between so many amazing dishes. I ended up going with the Ravioli di Fromaggio which was Ravioli and Cheese with a truffle sauce...OMG, it was to die for. My husband ordered classic Tonarelli e Meatballs (Spaghetti and Meatballs). Also, amazing! He brought home leftovers, I did not! We were so full, but we did enjoy one of their Espresso Martinis and I had their Penelope Bourbon that came right from the barrel. It was good, but I do like my Bourbons a bit sweeter. Our bartender Jeff was excellent and we had the best time. I know we will be back again for sure! When a new high-end restaurant opens on the island, we are all excited. This one came as a surprise because it is kind of tucked in a small, mixed-business shopping center. Our friends went here first and said it was outstanding. My wife, daughter, and I decided to try it, and here is the scoop. It is outstanding. Let's start with the interior. It isn't large, but it is comfortable. The bar is large, and it was well thought out. They have lots of old-school photos on the wall, including several Jazz greats. The bar has one monitor, and it plays old Las Vegas Rat Pack and Dean Martin clips. I was in heaven. They have a variety of first-shelf spirits, and the staff can mix a hell of a drink. They also have an extensive selection of wine both by the bottle and by the glass. Let's get onto the food. My wife and I split a Caesar. It is amazing how many restaurants get this wrong. Chilled lettuce, great croutons, shaved cheese versus grated, and an anchovy sauce made this one special. For entrees, my daughter had Fettuccine Alfredo. My wife had the vegetable lasagna, and I had the lasagna Bolognese. It was all FANTASTIC! The flavor of the respective sauces was amazing, but the scratch-made pasta was outstanding. We tried the Tiramisu for dessert...YUM! We also split a Chocolate Martini that was perfection. Best of all, the price was reasonable. Most pasta dishes are in the mid-twenty dollar range. We have been back two other times and it was as good as the first so I wish this business a lot of good fortune. read more

Pasta Vino is the new kid on the block in Middletown, and definitely worth a short drive if you are interested in a low key and relaxed dinner in a cozy and intimate setting (with free parking, and lots of it!) The space is brand new, located in a small plaza in central Middletown. Pasta Vino is the sister restaurant of Newport's Vieste, and the menu is a more focused version of that repertoire, highlighting more pastas and less other stuff. If that's your thing, great! However, there's not a ton of other options besides pastas and appetizers, so just keep that in mind. The pasta, though, was great! The meatballs were fresh and flavorful, and both the Aglio Olio pasta and Bolognese pasta were fantastic. Portion sizes are appropriate- you will feel full without being overstuffed, and even might have some to take home for lunch tomorrow! I happened to be in Newport with the intention of meeting friends. I missed the connection, though, and ended up randomly stopping in the plaza that Pasta Vino is located in. "What the heck," I thought. "I've got a long drive home and I probably won't feel like cooking when I get there." I am so very glad that I did. From the moment I walked through the door, it felt like I'd arrived at a friend's house. The atmosphere was so warm and inviting. Every single person working in that establishment had a smile for me and a kind word. While I waited for my takeaway order, I was treated to one of the best cappuccinos I have ever had the pleasure of drinking. The food - what I ate at the restaurant and what I ordered to take away (the Maccheroni Amatriciana, at the recommendation of one of the lovely hostesses) was divine. And the company? Top notch. It wasn't just me, either - everyone that walked in the door got that same warm, friendly treatment. I admit that I was having a pretty crummy day when I happened to stumble upon Pasta Vino. But by the time I walked out, it was like all the crummy stuff had never happened. It was enough to make me wish I lived closer so I could frequent it more often... but it's definitely worth the hour drive for me to go back and experience it again. Not good at all. The menu is not great. Mostly just pasta. It's all homemade pasta which is great, but the flavor of the food was not good. Homemade pasta takes the flavor of what it's made in. The tonnarelli alla vongole (spaghetti and clams) was the worst one I have ever had. There was no flavor and the pasta just tasted like dough. The Alfredo was just ok. The Cesar salad was the best part of the meal. The runner dumped half the juice from the spaghetti and clams on the table and my lap. Never cleaned it up. I had to wipe down the table after I went to the bathroom to clean the sauce off of my shorts. All around bad experience. I won't be back. I DO NOT recommend this place. read more

Couldn't be more disappointed. Absolutely the worst meal I've had in the Newport area in the past year. I ordered the gnocchi with a meatball. Then gnocchi were gummy and the sauce was bland. The meatball, on the other hand, was full of salt and bread crumbs. My friend ordered the eggplant parmesan. It was similarly excessively salty and greasy. Truly nothing redeeming. We ate at the bar and the bartender seemed like a great guy. We like the overall Ambiance of the place. But seriously, we were stunned at how bad the food was. What a wonderful dinner experience at Pasta Vino! The waiter was so professional and knowledgeable. We started with the caprese appetizer which was delicious. He explained what the gluten free pasta would look like and made it a seamless accommodation. When they brought the dish out, they once again confirmed it was gluten free without being prompted. We are absolutely obsessed with this place. This is hands down the best pasta on the island. Their vegetarian lasagna is the best lasagna I've ever had in my life. The service is top-notch and the atmosphere is perfect. You can tell the pasta is all freshly made and that all of the ingredients are also super fresh. We don't let ourselves splurge on pasta very often, but when we do, there is nowhere else we will go. Definitely recommend a reservation! read more

we were visiting form Michigan and our friends who live here suggested this restaurant to celebrate our 50th Anniversary. From the mi Ute we walked in the door we felt like we were in a special restaurant. We were quickly seated, with in seconds our waiter was there and we had cocktails in hand in minutes. The waiter explained all the specials, recommended certain dishes and we all placed our orders. was not very long that we had our appetizers and from there everything went so smoothly. We all ordered different dishes and OMG we were all very pleased. comments ranged from Delicious, amazing food, very tasteful, super fresh, nice and hot so needless to say there were ate everything on our plate. Then we ordered a variety of desserts and shared, outstanding ! I will definitely return here on our next visit. A few minor tweaks would go a long way...1) Lighting is harsh, they should switch from the bright LED to something more in line with that beautiful dim lighting that they have at their other restaurants-- Vieste and Hooked. 2) As much as I love the Rat Pack and old 1950s black-and-white movies, switching them out for live TV or sports or similar would be smart. :) read more

This restaurant is a little gem .We were there recently with family and it was a very enjoyable meal .The atmosphere is equal to any osteria located in Italy.The owner actually just returned from Italy and spent time talking with us.The food was excellent I had the carbonara and eggplant both had extraordinary flavor my husband had the bolognese and loved it along with focaccia bread .The wine selection was excellent and they had a very cosy bar .Desert was tiramisu and it was the best I've had in any restaurant.It was cold generous piece with chocolate shavings on top. At the last minute, we decided to celebrate our 44th wedding anniversary with a first-time dinner at Pasta Vino, and got what appeared to be the last early evening (5:00 pm) reservation available. We were seated immediately, and the service was attentive from that point forward. The restaurant was cosy, even when completely filled by about 5:20 pm. We started with a split Caesar salad - plentiful portion for each of us, with a plate of homemade foccacia bread and oilve oil. I ordered the veal saltimboca with pasta (one of the evening's specials) - it was fabulous! My husband had the pasta with clams; he thought the clams were a bit tough but still very tasty. Topped off the evening with a single portion of tiramisu, which was delicious and more than enough for the two of us. We're not drinkers so I can't vouch for the cocktails or wine list, but other guests seemed to be enjoying their beverages. Perfect choice for a special evening! A tad on the pricey side, but we will be back! read more
