JT Commons in Middletown is part of the Newport Restaurant Group, which we already love, and this spot lives up to it. We recently dined in for a birthday celebration after ordering takeout a few times before. My family is obsessed with the pepperoni hot honey pizza and hasn't strayed, though they've tried all three crust options: Roman, focaccia and gluten free. I usually go for the black speck and fig (gluten free), but switched it up this time with the gluten free Sicilian and it was delicious, even better as leftovers the next day. We also highly recommend the roasted chicken wings. They're juicy and full of flavor. For dessert, I was pleasantly surprised with a warm gluten free peanut butter cookie as part of the cookie platter, while my family enjoyed the chocolate chip. My one and a half year old nephew would absolutely recommend the vanilla soft serve topped with whipped cream. Dining in was a great experience. Tyis place is an absolute gold mine for pizza! We stumbled upon this place. Were planning to go somewhere else but due to a traffic back up, we decided to check this out when we saw Sourdough Pizza and it was a smashing hit hit. The servers are so amzing and sweet, they were friendly with my infant and made us feel comfortable. We ordered a couple of drinks along with the mushroom pizza on sourdough and the hawain regular and they were amazing. The portions sizes are HUGEEEE so it kinda checks out with the pricey nature of the restaurant. The service was quick and the ambiance relaxed. For 3 people 2 pizzas were more than enough, even 1 sourdough would have sufficed. You should definitely try them if in the area! read more

Stumbled upon this restaurant by sheer luck and so glad about it. The place has a beautiful and elevated interior, and the staff is super sweet and welcoming. What attracted us was the focaccia pizza, but none of the listed toppings interested us much, but the Roman toppings did. So, they did make us focaccia pizza with Roman pizza toppings, which we loved. The taste of the pizzas was amazing too. Really fresh and crisp! We wondered if they had any chili oil to go with their pizzas, so the chefs in the kitchen whipped up something for us that so so good!! And we really appreciated them doing that for us! Sadly, unless they improve on the pizza we are not willing to spend the money for it here. We ordered pizza and when we got it home again the ingredients were sparse as was the sauce and cheese. The toppings and sauce were concentrated in the middle of the crust and we were left with bare thick plain crust. Totally disappointing. By the time my friend and I had decided to go out to dinner, our options were limited. JT Commons seemed promising as the food looked good in pictures, they were open late, and a local recommended it to us. They have a big parking lot. We walked in and it was a blend of modern and fancy, but also casual because of the bar (island style) and the TVs playing sports. We were seated at a booth. We came in wanting their roman style pizza (thin and crispy) but were stuck on what toppings we wanted since all their options sounded delicious. With the help of our waitress, we played it safe and went with a classic: the pepperoni hot and honey. After about 15 minutes, the pizza made its way to our table, and it looked even better in person. However, the flavor was decent. It was good, but nothing outstanding and after a couple minutes the cheese had no pull. It was thin and crispy as advertised. Since it was my birthday, I had the opportunity to choose from a desert menu and it was on the house. I went with the lemon blueberry cake. It was very pretty, but the cake itself was a bit dry and the frosting was too stiff. My wife and I have gone to JT Commons on a couple of occasions. Our first visit was with our friends. We got to the place and man was it busy. We had to park way in the back and looking through the wiindows, we figured we would be waiting for a bit. When we got inside, we were sat immediately at a nice large table. It is physically a large place with a beautifully large and well stocked bar. Our server was a character! He made the first experience a totally fin time. We ordered cocktails and they were well made. Very balanced and perfectly proportioned. Our food choices began with a couple of appetizers. We had the chicken bites and the parmesan roasted cauliflower. Both were very good. The chicken was moist and not greasy. The cauliflower was super flavorful. Everything was gone in a few minutes...LOL. Our entrees included the Spicy Hawaiian and the RI Mushroom thin crust pizzas, the Italian grinder and the Mac 'N' Cheese entree. We all enjoyed them. Pizza was thin, crispy and had great ingredients. Substituting prosciutto for ham really made the Hawaiian pizza stand out. All in all, a great experience. Give it a try! read more

We stopped in on our way to visit family..and we are glad we did. Husband and I shared a pizza (1/2 magherita, 1/2 chicken ranch) and it was delicious! Mom-in-law had the artichoke dip and also declared it a win. I appreciate the selection of non-alcoholic cocktails along with their boozier cousins on the menu. Another impressive restaurant experience dining at the Newport Restaurant Group establishment. My wife got the cheesesteak and loved it. She said it had great flavor and was well presented. The only thing she was bummed about was that they didn't give her a seeded bun and photos of previous reviews did include it so maybe something changed. Still giving it a five star though. For my meal I got the steak frites. I was torn on what to get because other customers around me had gotten the chicken bites, roasted chicken and pizza and that all looked delicious. I landed on the steak frites and it honestly was a generous portion and full of flavor. I did the chimichurri sauce on the side and I'm glad I did as it had a kick to it. Overall, we were impressed with the service, ambiance and dishes we were served. Next time we'll have to try the soft serve as it looked tasty as well. You can't go wrong with anything you order on their menu. Their clam chowder was delicious. We highly recommend the chicken bacon ranch pizza. I am usually the type to avoid pizza crust, but I enjoyed the thin crispy crust on their pizzas. Their dole whip cocktail was not overly sweet and I loved it. It was a great balance of pineapple, vodka, and soft serve. Service was great and friendly from start to finish. It's a family friendly restaurant but we did not get a booster seat. It's situated in the former location of Foodlove, NRG's specialty market that closed last year, and they did a great job with renovating the space into a comfortable eatery with an open kitchen, lots of seating, and a convivial bar that is the centerpiece of the large, well lit, and airy space. Chad was our server, and he was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and gave great recommendations! He also kept my Diet Cokes refilled- major thank you! We got the Chicken Bites (phenomenal- juicy, tender dark meat chicken brined in a savory-spicy marinade and fried crisp and golden, finished with house made Buffalo and Ranch sauces- loved the Ranch with fresh dill!), the Tuscan Chicken Soup (just okay, I ended up saving room for pizza instead), the thinner crust Hot Honey Pizza (yum! Crust was not cracker-like a la Frank Pepe's, which was perfect, because I hate the burned crispy crust vibes), the Spicy Chicken Sandwich (a little too spicy, but everyone else enjoyed. The Beef Tallow Fries were great, served with house Curry Ketchup), and the star of the show, the Chocolate Marshmallow Cake (made in house at the adjacent Wooden Pin Baking Co- one of the best desserts on Aquidneck Island- you HAVE to save room for this one!) This is a great addition to Middletown! I love the ambiance, they made it nice and cozy. We were seated in a corner table and had excellent service. My husband ordered an old fashioned (said it was on sweet side), and I had a beer. For pizza we were happy to hear they take celiac precautions with gluten free pizza. My husband LOVED his gluten free pizza. I ordered the hot honey pepperoni Roman style and it was just ok. Dessert I had a make your own sundae and my husband had an affogato. We went to this new place JT Commons. They have plenty of parking. Our waiter was very friendly and knowledgeable. We started with spinach artichoke and chips. It was all homemade and delicious. We also tried their pizzas. Our waiter told us we could get different combinations in half orders. So we got two pizzas but four combinations. We got pepperoni, mushroom, fig and prosciutto and Hawaiian pizza. They were all good. I did say the fig and prosciutto would be better with a balsamic drizzle. The one I thought I would be my least favorite was my favorite which was the Hawaiian. It had amazing flavor with the jalapeño. Don't overlook that one like I almost did since it was my favorite. The seating was great with different seating types. We were at a table but they also have a huge bar with great TV to watch games here too. We were stuffed so did not get dessert but I would like to try their scout desserts next time. I did get a picture of them to remember to try next time. read more

Have eaten here twice and was absolutely phenomenal both times. Both visits we had the pepperoni hot honey pizza and it is a solid 9.5. Roasted chicken wings are spectacular also. The Caesar salad is delicious and they add bread crumbs on top to give it a nice crunch. The service both times was 10/10. I regret I forget the name of our server the first visit but this time we had Kirby and he was the best waiter I have had in ages. Another home run by Newport Restaurant Group. First, the food was good, second the ambience also was very nice. Our server, a young girl was good too. They have an open kitchen which I applaud. That usually signifies transparency and safe handling conditions. Unfortunately, I witnessed a male food preparation person sneezing three times in succession with zero attempt to cover his sneeze. He proceeded to pinch his nose as if wiping snot away. Gross doesn't begin to describe this. I don't know his name and to identify him, there were two men who fit the same description and having the exact same clothing; stocky, bearded, and wearing a baseball cap. I would hate to get the innocent one mis-identified. This was mid afternoon on Thursday 8/6/26. Perhaps the management have an idea who this may be from previous observations though. He shouldn't be in a food preparation role IMHO. It's just unacceptable in these days following Covid. Will I go back? No, because of this reason. Shame because the food was great. read more

This is a cute new restaurant in Middletown that is definitely worth visiting! Owned by the Newport Restaurant group, JT Commons is sure to be a wonderful night out. We were able to snag a last minute reservation on a Saturday night and were happy we did! For food we split a pizza and Caesar salad and both were fantastic! We opted for glasses of wine with our meal and saved room for a fantastic espresso martini for dessert. I definitely recommend you try it out! The only thing I would mention is that the menu is a bit on the smaller side and prices are higher so it is likely a nice place to treat yourself but not a place to visit every week. My wife and I stopped by and we were met with very friendly staff who sat us down right away. We were immediately greeted by wonderful waitstaff who promptly offered us drinks and a menu. Since this was our 3rd time trying this new restaurant, which is close to home, we were really hoping for a pleasant meal after dealing with all of that snow. We both decided to order the whole chicken dinner so that we could take some home. We asked our waitress how does a whole chicken arrive? How is it presented? Our small little table didn't seem big enough to fit our 4 drinks, the wire pizza stacker, and the soup and salad we ordered on top of the 2 whole chickens. She kindly said it comes all cut up and that satisfied us. When it finally arrived, about a 1/4 or less of a chicken came on our plates. We both were shocked! They literally cut the majority of the meat off of the plump part of the leg, leaving us mostly bone! Only a tiny corner was given from the breast and about a quarter of the thigh. At least the wing was left whole! The server immediately heard our complaints only to insist we did indeed receive whole chicken dinners. Needless to say, we were stunned. The fries and coleslaw were excellent, btw. It didn't take long however to be told that we only received 2 half-chicken dinner's instead of 2 whole ones. Easy mistake... We then asked them to please pack up the other half's to go, which they did. (I just finished eating my 2nd so-called "half chicken" which prompted me to write this review.) Some short time later the manager did come by and told us our meals were on them because of the craziness. We really appreciated that, but in the future, we would never order a whole chicken dinner ($38 btw!) off the menu, as advertised, but only receive half or less of one. I'm sorry, but if a business is to succeed, they need to at least meet expectations... preferably surpass them. Given the few times I've eaten here, I wouldn't be back unless this changes. Food is definitely a 5 star experience. The service was a different story. We sat at the bar on a Friday night. When we first entered the service was attentive but quickly fell off. Ordered the chicken bites for an appetizer. The bartender forgot to put the order in. It was obvious she remembered after 20 minutes when she glanced at our plates and napkins with no food. The bites themselves were very good. We ordered the sausage pizza after waving down one of the bartenders. Once we received the pizza we were never asked how it was or if we needed anything else. My companions beer sat empty without getting asked if he wanted refill throughout the rest of the meal. The pizza itself was excellent and huge. Even though the dough itself was very thick it had a great flavor. Almost reminded me of a Detroit pizza without the charred edges. Both of us could only eat 2 pieces each. The restaurant itself is large with a big parking lot. The half price pizza deal after 8pm can't be beat. Compared to other restaurants in this area who close early I was surprised they serve until 11 on weekends. It is loud and bustling so don't expect a quiet romantic atmosphere. Overall if I based retuning on the service I wouldn't. The food itself is what will make me give it a second chance. JT Commons is a great addition to the Middletown dining scene. The manager (I think) who welcomed us was the friendliest host I've encountered in quite a while. Our server was attentive, they have a nice beer selection, and I really enjoyed my burger as it was cooked perfectly and the fries were incredible! The only minor downside was that the chicken bites were a bit overdone (appetizer), and I asked the server to use my $30 in rewards and she forgot to. My husband, our best friends and I stopped here for lunch on Valentine's Day and had a wonderful dining experience!! We enjoyed all of the options available on the menu and could tell the pizza was authentically Italian. They had several other options as well. We ordered the Rhode Island style pizza, as well as appetizers that included beef tallow fries with garlic aioli, spinach artichoke dip, and chicken bites with delectable dipping sauces. My husband also ordered the specialty burger with kimchi. It was his first time trying kimchi and he said the burger was one of the best he'd ever had! Picked up a large Roman pizza on Oct 25 early afternoon .The initial entry was very impressive.Beautiful set up bar very nice seating was well spaced and looked comfortable. I ordered my pizza ,service was fine.When I got home and opened the box I thought the lg pizza was a small.The crust was overcooked the cheese was runny and rolled off the slice .Thats the first time I've ever seen liquid cheese .It was a simple order hard to mess up .The take out menu is the same as the in house menu which is severely limited. This restaurant is just what the area needs. Casual, but good food. Sit at a table, have a function in a separate area, sit at the bar. All are good choices. I was lucky enough to get in for the first day of live training. Sure, there were a few hiccups, but with the amount of management observing every detail, I have no doubt they will be corrected soon. The best news is that the pizza from Foodlove -- which previously operated in this building -- is still there. Hands down the best pizza. Now they have two styles -- the ever popular focaccia pizza and now a thin crust pizza to cater to all tastes. It is a nice place to go for a nice lunch or dinner. There is a lot of pizza on the menu, but there are also some interesting main dishes and sandwiches. Some people said the island did not need another pizza joint. But this is far above the usual ambiance and quality of a pizza joint. This is a nice sit down restaurant with plenty of parking right outside of Newport. We stopped in on a whim and got a great seat at the bar. It's the latest venture from the Newport Restaurant Group, located in the space that once housed Food Love. While I always enjoyed the food at Food Love, I never felt inclined to sit down for a beer and a pizza with friends there. The deli/grocery/café concept had its charm, but it leaned a little too far toward the grocery side to invite lingering. J.T. Commons, on the other hand, feels immediately more welcoming--modestly appointed, easy on the eyes, and smartly laid out to offer a bit of something for everyone who walks through the door. The pizza crust was every bit as good as our server promised, and I didn't hesitate to polish off every last bite. Service is warm and friendly, knowledgeable without being pedantic, and the overall vibe is upbeat and intelligent. We'll definitely be back to try something beyond the pizza--maybe the steak frites or the half chicken over fries.
