    Lemon Blueberry Layer Cake
    Karla M.

By the time my friend and I had decided to go out to dinner, our options were limited. JT Commons seemed promising as the food looked good in pictures, they were open late, and a local recommended it to us. They have a big parking lot. We walked in and it was a blend of modern and fancy, but also casual because of the bar (island style) and the TVs playing sports. We were seated at a booth. We came in wanting their roman style pizza (thin and crispy) but were stuck on what toppings we wanted since all their options sounded delicious. With the help of our waitress, we played it safe and went with a classic: the pepperoni hot and honey. After about 15 minutes, the pizza made its way to our table, and it looked even better in person. However, the flavor was decent. It was good, but nothing outstanding and after a couple minutes the cheese had no pull. It was thin and crispy as advertised. Since it was my birthday, I had the opportunity to choose from a desert menu and it was on the house. I went with the lemon blueberry cake. It was very pretty, but the cake itself was a bit dry and the frosting was too stiff. Overall, we enjoyed our time here since the staff were friendly, and the vibes are good, but the food could be better.

    Spicy Hawaiian Pizza

My wife and I have gone to JT Commons on a couple of occasions. Our first visit was with our friends. We got to the place and man was it busy. We had to park way in the back and looking through the wiindows, we figured we would be waiting for a bit. When we got inside, we were sat immediately at a nice large table. It is physically a large place with a beautifully large and well stocked bar. Our server was a character! He made the first experience a totally fin time. We ordered cocktails and they were well made. Very balanced and perfectly proportioned. Our food choices began with a couple of appetizers. We had the chicken bites and the parmesan roasted cauliflower. Both were very good. The chicken was moist and not greasy. The cauliflower was super flavorful. Everything was gone in a few minutes...LOL. Our entrees included the Spicy Hawaiian and the RI Mushroom thin crust pizzas, the Italian grinder and the Mac 'N' Cheese entree. We all enjoyed them. Pizza was thin, crispy and had great ingredients. Substituting prosciutto for ham really made the Hawaiian pizza stand out. All in all, a great experience. Give it a try!

    Steak and Cheese

Another impressive restaurant experience dining at the Newport Restaurant Group establishment. My wife got the cheesesteak and loved it. She said it had great flavor and was well presented. The only thing she was bummed about was that they didn't give her a seeded bun and photos of previous reviews did include it so maybe something changed. Still giving it a five star though. For my meal I got the steak frites. I was torn on what to get because other customers around me had gotten the chicken bites, roasted chicken and pizza and that all looked delicious. I landed on the steak frites and it honestly was a generous portion and full of flavor. I did the chimichurri sauce on the side and I'm glad I did as it had a kick to it. Overall, we were impressed with the service, ambiance and dishes we were served. Next time we'll have to try the soft serve as it looked tasty as well. Already looking forward to our next visit.

Yum! Went here on a Saturday night, if you're going at prime dinner time I would suggest making a reservation! It was busy but not crazy. Our waitress was very nice, saw the pizza was good so we got the ri red focaccia and the fig regular style pizza. Both were very good! I love the focaccia pizza. Would for sure order that again. Pizzas are big enough to share. It was three of us and we had leftovers. Would suggest if you're in the area!

JT Commons is the newest addition to the Newport Restaurant Group family, and we had the pleasure of checking it out for lunch today! It's situated in the former location of Foodlove, NRG's specialty market that closed last year, and they did a great job with renovating the space into a comfortable eatery with an open kitchen, lots of seating, and a convivial bar that is the centerpiece of the large, well lit, and airy space. Chad was our server, and he was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and gave great recommendations! He also kept my Diet Cokes refilled- major thank you! We got the Chicken Bites (phenomenal- juicy, tender dark meat chicken brined in a savory-spicy marinade and fried crisp and golden, finished with house made Buffalo and Ranch sauces- loved the Ranch with fresh dill!), the Tuscan Chicken Soup (just okay, I ended up saving room for pizza instead), the thinner crust Hot Honey Pizza (yum! Crust was not cracker-like a la Frank Pepe's, which was perfect, because I hate the burned crispy crust vibes), the Spicy Chicken Sandwich (a little too spicy, but everyone else enjoyed. The Beef Tallow Fries were great, served with house Curry Ketchup), and the star of the show, the Chocolate Marshmallow Cake (made in house at the adjacent Wooden Pin Baking Co- one of the best desserts on Aquidneck Island- you HAVE to save room for this one!) I opted out of a cocktail, but the selection looked well made and extensive. We will certainly be back!

The desserts I did not get to try this visit but looked great.

Every table and bar seat was packed so I highly recommend having a reservation or be prepared to wait a bit. The Romaine & Kale Caesar Salad with Chicken Milanese was genuinely tremendous. Such an elite combination from the freshness & creaminess of the salad to the crispiness and saltiness of the Chicken Milanese. Since we were sharing, they pre-split the portion for us which was a nice hassle-free experience. I could've honestly ended the meal here and been super content. I rarely see oven roasted pizza on the menu so we decided to try the Oven Roasted Chicken Grilled Pizza. The best part was actually the dough; it's thin enough where the roasted/grilled flavor comes through. The pesto and arugula were both good and paired well with the grilled chicken. The Tagliatelle was savory, earthy, and not overly creamy. The pasta itself was cooked just right. Since we were celebrating a birthday, I was so grateful that they offered us a complimentary slice of Limoncello Mascarpone Cake. It was so good! Moist, creamy, and not too sweet or citrusy. It was a pleasant bite to end the meal on. Great spot!

I've ordered twice since it was open just to try it out again. The first time I walked in I ordered a 10" cheese well done and a soda just to try it out. It should have been 14. When I went to pay for it it was just about $17. I had asked why so expensive? It should only be like $14. They told me I ordered a small and I told them I ordered a personal but they weren't hearing it and still charged me for the small. Whatever, I let it go, paid for it and left. It wasn't bad tasting but for the money there was almost no cheese or sauce on it. The second time I ordered I asked for an XL bacon, onion, mushroom with extra cheese well done. It took over an hour to be delivered and when I got it, it wasn't hot, it didn't have extra cheese, there wasn't much by way of toppings and it wasn't well done. That kinda sucks especially when they charge almost $5 for delivery and they also charge a $2 service fee on top of it. That's $7 extra dollars just for a delivery on top of the $35 for a pizza. I'm not saying not to order from there. I'm just giving you my experience that I've had the two times I ordered. The checks for food and service are generic responses from Yelp. I tried unchecking them but it won't let me. I did give it the two stars because like I said, it didn't taste bad but for what you pay, which is a lot; you should be getting exactly what you asked for.

Waitstaff is kind and dutiful. Food is beyond delicious. I started off with their onion rings, which were one of their specials today. Perfectly crispy and tasty without excess grease. It came with a special "Outback" sauce, which tasted like a spicy version of thousand island dressing sans pickles; it was quite delicious. Rings were good with or without the sauce. For my main course, I got the Plumby's Crispy Chicken BLT. This sandwich is full of flavor. Like the onion rings, the chicken was fried to perfection and not overly greasy. Vermont cheddar and bacon add a savory richness and the chipotle mayo had just the right amount of spice. I couldn't taste the tomato and arugula much so this sandwich is a good way to help you eat your veggies. I also got a side of garlic mashed potatoes which were creamy, garlicky and buttery. Lately she'd been telling me about a chocolate martini from The Brick Alley Pub & Restaurant, and being the martini and chocolate fan that I am, I simply had to experience it. So I finally got a day when I could join her on a trip, and so we went there on Labor Day. Once there, we walked right in at 11:30 am, and were seated immediately. The interior is fun and interesting -- antique this and that, including a huge iron door that looks like it went to a furnace, and had embossed lettering, I believe it was Newport Highschool. Perhaps the restaurant location is where the HS coal room was originally??? Anyway, one the way to the table, the hostess said something about the soup and salad bar being over there to my right, and so I went to check it out, and once I took a gander inside the two soup containers, I grabbed a bowl of Portuguese Kale Soup and brought it to the table. Judi said "That's all you're gonna get?" And I said "Of course not, I'll grab some salad and maybe get a sandwich or something." "Oh" she said, and then got up to check out the soup and salad bar herself. Meanwhile as I'm slurping the delicious, heart y soup, loaded with chourico, potatoes, carrots, kale, beans, etc., I'm perusing the menu and I notice that it says that if you purchase a sandwich of $9 or more then you get the soup and salad bar for $10, and then the soup and salad bar alone was $18. Okay, so perhaps I just wasn't thinking about the world in which I now live that basically has you paying for the bread basket you might get served. But again, the hostess just basically slurred out something about the soup and salad bar and my brain heard that it was complimentary. I honestly have to wonder if that's part of the trick(?) to get you to go for it, and not realize that it's considered a meal in itself, and then you order a sandwich or whatever, and now you're paying twice the amount you thought you'd be paying, but hey, it's Newport and people are spending $40 on a stupid baseball cap. And so, you know, if you end up having to pay a bit too much at a restaurant, you don't make a scene, you just say "Yeah, I meant to do that". Okay, I'm trying not to be sardonic here, trying not to sound like one of those "everybody's out to get me" kind of folks, so I'll just shut up at this point, on this particular point. I just hope that the owners and/or managers will inform the hostess to be a bit more clear on what the soup and salad bar actually means. That'd be nice. So there was no way I was buying a sandwich to go along with the soup and salad bar -- I simply cannot eat as much as I did when I was in my 20's and couldn't gain a pound if I ate all day long. I was able to (slightly) save face once Judi went for the soup and salad bar herself and was satisfied with the freshness and deliciousness thereof. But the piece de resistance, the very reason we both came to this establishment in the first place ... the chocolate martini! So this martini looks nothing like you'd expect as clear as water. I believe it's got a vodka base, and then some creme de cocoa, and is showered in grated chocolate flakes. It was absolutely splendid! Nice and boozy without being overpowering, and the flavor was amazing. And then for some strange reason, Judi is looking at the dessert menu. She reads of a few of them, asking me if I'd like something like that. I keep saying "I'm pretty full Jude", but she was persistent. She especially was taken with the Ghirardelli Fudge Brownie with 4 Scoops of Vanilla Ice Cream. She said "What if we can get them to split it in half on two separate plates?" I said "Ohhhhkaayyyyy..." And our waitress said "Absolutely!" She came back with two large portions (see attached photo ... just remember, that's a picture of HALF of the dessert serving!). Oh my word! It was large and quite yummy. A nice, crunchy and soft brownie made with Ghirardelli chocolate, with plenty of walnuts therein, two lovely scoops of ice cream, all drizzled with chocolate sauce. A splendid way to cap it all off. So I'd go back again, just with the knowledge that it's EITHER the soup and salad bar OR a sammich, at least for a guy my age and size and appetite. But definitely for that lovely chocolate martini ... and maybe that fudge brownie to make it complete :)

We had such a great meal at Pasta Beach as everything we ordered was delicious. The Pesca Burrata Salad was a beautiful combination of sweet and savory. The peaches paired so well with the arugula and creamy whipped burrata, while the pistachios added a nice crunch. The honey and balsamic dressing was so refreshing and light which brought everything together perfectly. Their fried calamari was perfectly fried. The batter was light and crispy while the calamari was tender without feeling too greasy or heavy. I especially like the tomato sauce as the flavors were well balanced without being too sour. The Burrata Pizza was another standout. The combination of pepperoni, mozzarella, and creamy burrata was amazing and the hot honey added the perfect sweet and spicy finish. The creamy burrata balanced out the kick from the hot honey so well that I think this is my new favorite pizza combination. All the pasta was al dente. The Spaghetti alla Vongole was light and the clams were very fresh. The Tagliatelle alla Bolognese was rich and hearty. And the Mezze Maniche Carbonara was definitely one of my favorites. The creamy egg yolk, pancetta, black pepper, pecorino, and Parmigiano created that rich, classic carbonara flavor without being overly heavy. Overall, Pasta Beach is a great spot for a casual lunch or dinner. We loved being able to share so many different dishes, and everything came out flavorful and well prepared. The only thing I did not like was their bread service as the bread came out cold and there was nothing special about them. Our server was friendly and attentive. We would definitely return when we are in town again in the future.
