We had a party of six on a Saturday night, and Pasta Al Gusto was perfect! There were a couple other diners and plenty space for us. Our server was friendly and efficient. Everyone found something they liked on the menu and everything was devoured. I can't remember all the orders, but we had the special pasta with a spicy sauce, gnocchi, ravioli....everyone was satisfied. We all ordered dessert as well -- all beautifully presented and very delicious! Something chocolate, tiramisu, a lemony thing...so good! We knew ahead of time it was BYOB, so we stopped on the way over for wine. It was no problem and just a small corkage fee. It's definitely on the quiet side, and I don't know why it hasn't been discovered by others (maybe the BYOB requirement?? But this was no problem for us) and the food and service were terrific. During our short visit to the Windy City of Chicago, we had the pleasure of eating at Pasta Al Gusto. We had reservations. We were greeted with a smile and was seated right away. Water was brought to our table. About 5-7 mins. Camilla, our waitress, took our food order. She was very attentive and refreshing our water glass. After we placed our order it probably took 15 minutes to get our food. There was soft music in the background. We were able to have a conversation without raising our voices. We had their Caesar salad which was solid and classic in flavor. the caprese was light and delicious. we were recommended to try their melted goat cheese which I'm so glad we did. The slight sourness of the goat cheese worked well with the pomodoro sauce and we crushed it all. For the mains we split four pastas. All of these pastas were fresh and packed with flavor, I'll start with my favorite one, the Frutti di Mare had clams, shrimp, scallops and mussels, this pasta was the premier example of the frutti di mare in terms of flavor. Ravioli Puttanesca was tasty, and had some mediterranean influences with the kalamata olives and oregano. Pappalina was ultra creamy and these tortellacci were filled with beef and veal, very comforting to say the least. My second favorite pasta was the Gnocchi alla Gorgonzola. This combo took me back to Sorrento which was the last time I had a dish similar to this flavor profile. For dessert, you can't go wrong with a cannoli, but we had to investigate their tiramisu which had that delicate coffee flavor and smooth in texture. read more

I saw a review on TikTok and thought it looked good. I'm not the biggest Italian fan so I can't speak on the authenticity or how it compares to too many OG Italian places but every single thing prepared was immaculate. I thought it was pretty dang good. Expensive, yes. But delivered in every way. I can't believe how many people were getting these dishes to go through door dash when the plating and ambiance was as fun and laid back as it was. The food evoked so much emotion with how unique it was and tasted. I cannot recommend this place enough. Nothing was at all bland and all the flavor profiles were so well thought out. If the Location makes you feel skeptical, I wouldn't doubt you. Nestled near Tony's (great for late nite Tacos), you wouldnt expect much. It feels authentically American-Italian. While the skeptic in you sips a glass of water, the mild aroma of clean flavors and a nifty peak into the adjacent table will force you to give the place a chance. However, Call it Devine intervention or my innate niche of looking at food leaving the kitchen and connecting to the names on the menu, The Vodka sauce calls out to me. I order it. The food arrives and i must say it was rather comforting. It could have been the cold Chicago weather, or the trio of Tomato, cream and Vodka. It was just perfect. Is it authentically Italian? Had dinner there for the first time last Tuesday 3/1/22. Small joint. Decor was nothing fancy but by no means shabby either. Thankfully (at least for us) there weren't many other dinners because though there were workers in the back, I only saw one server, who was very attentive and friendly. I can't find my receipt to name him, sorry. The food came out in a decent amount of time, and from what I can tell, everyone enjoyed their meal. Here's the TLDR. It's an unassuming place from the outside. not fancy by any means, especially the inside. The inside is unassuming not a great vibe for romance or a special event. But what matters is the price, food, and service- right? The price isn't cheap but pretty typical for chicago. I usually base it off apps. 6 small mozzarella sticks were around $7. For the food, I got the gorgonzola cream sauce pasta- it was good but extremely salty for my taste- and I LOVE salt. My one frustration I experienced was that our server approached us pretty constantly- that doesn't bother me as much as a previous server. What did was when we asked to split the bill between the two of us, she said it wasn't doable- although we noticed the table next to us did the split- so wasn't sure what happened there. read more

Ordered on UberEats where restaurant is named Macaroni Bowl and saw they had some BOGO specials there (prices below may differ from dine-in). I think the quality is good maybe slightly pricey if not for the deal bc of portion size on the pasta; though that may just be inflation in today's environment. Chicken Farfalle $19.50 was good, almost like a similar named place's Farfalle pollo (substitute Pasta for Macaroni in the name) but a noticeably smaller serving. Only a 7" container which is probably an appetizer size (look at the pic next to fried ravioli app), a couple inches smaller than normal. Now it is a heavier pasta (you'll still be full), but do your geometry and you know those two inches are a big difference (ya I know that's what she said!). If it wasn't BOGO on UberEats, I'd be disappointed. Fried Cheese Ravioli $6.99 was ok, good size for BOGO. Comes with sauce which was good size and taste. Ordered Pasta Al Gusto for delivery via GrubHub. The flavors were all solid. However, some dishes were better than others based on delivery time. The cranberry goat cheese salad was delicious. It was hard to break up the goat cheese, so would have loved smaller crumbles vs. large hunks, but fine. Rotini al Gusto was solid. Tasty sauce, good texture, good ratio of ingredients. The Caprese Panino left much to be desired as a delivery meal. While the ingredients and combo were tasty, the bottom of the panini was completely soggy. I had to remove the bottom bread and eat from the top as an open faced sandwich. The fries were fine, but as a personal preference, I prefer standard fries vs. battered. Overall, decent food, but know that delivery suffers compared to an in person dining experience. (Someday!) read more

Dining in is always a quiet, cozy and lovely experience. The staff is always super friendly and attentive. We have been dining and ordering carryout from this restaurant for a few years now. We came in for a Friday night dinner and had a wonderful meal. Unfortunately, there was another group of 2 who also came in and behaved in a very entitled and rude manner. The BYOB policy is posted on the front door of the restaurant, you cannot walk in without seeing it. Yet when they were reminded of the policy, they demanded to speak to the manager and then with the owner and threatened to leave a bad yelp review if they didn't get their way. The staff explained the policy several times but the couple continued to argue that they wanted to speak to someone else, were very disappointed, wouldn't be coming back and were going to leave a "scathing Yelp review". I found this behavior to be extremely entitled and it saddens me that people who don't get their way would try to hurt a small family business with a bad review because of their inability to read or take no for an answer. The restaurant did nothing wrong and the staff remained calm despite ridiculous demands for things like a funnel to get back the wine they had already poured out. We were the other couple in the restaurant, we felt this behavior only reflected badly on those 2 people and are sorry the staff had to deal with such an unpleasant scene. The staff apologized to us for the incident, though we assured them they had nothing to apologize for. We will of course continue to dine and order here and hope that the neighborhood will support such a great little spot. The economy is very difficult for everyone right now, so it is more important than ever to support our neighborhood gems and treat each other with dignity and respect. Nobody is above anyone else and nobody deserves to be talked down to or threatened in the way this couple spoke to restaurant staff. Nobody is entitled to force a business to bend their posted rules for them. We hope people will give this place a chance read more

I ordered for delivery through Uber Eats. The food came quickly and was hot and fresh. It just wasn't very special. I think part of the reason why Italian food has sort of gone out of style is people don't really eat this way anymore; giant, overwhelming portions of bland food. I'd much rather have a small portion of something tasty than a bland pile of pasta. I also wish Italian restaurants would offer an option on the sauce level; more sauce, less sauce, etc. In this case, I ordered the Linguine Frutti Di Mare, and it was a large pasta portion with extremely light sauce. I would have loved way less pasta, way more sauce. The seafood (shrimp, mussels, scallops) was nicely cooked and it was a decent amount of shrimp, but I paid to double the portion (the dish was around $15 + $6 for the extra shrimp). It was reasonably priced for the amount, I just wonder how much shrimp there would have been if I hadn't ordered extra. I ended up pouring my roommates extra sauce from meatballs into the pasta to aid the flavor, but it was still bland. I also ordered bruschetta and I don't understand this portion size at all; 4 crostini sized pieces of toast and 2 two ounce cups of bruschetta. This is literally the same size cup that we use to serve salsa at my catering company. The dish was only $6 but I would have expected at least twice as much; I mean, it's just bread, tomatoes, garlic & basil, not expensive to make... and if cost is the issue, just charge more and give a real portion. It was only enough for 2 of the slices of toast. The flavor was good; there just wasn't enough of it. Now I'm getting deep on this next comment (sorry, I'm a chef and these little details are all the difference between a mediocre meal and a great one). The meatballs were large, and handmade, with fresh herbs, which I appreciate since most of the time when you order meatballs they are frozen. However, they were underseasoned and overhandled. When you work with ground beef (meatballs, burgers, etc) you have to be careful how much you knead the meat; if you press all of the air out of it, you end up with a very tight, mealy texture. Someone in that kitchen has palms of steel and mashed the meatballs into submission, resulting in a very unappetizing texture! Overall, the food was fine and I would order again; and likely just get 2 orders of bruschetta! Or maybe 3 orders, ha ha! Pasta al Gusto, if you read this, it would be a good idea to offer half size portions of some of the pasta dishes, double the bruschetta portion for a couple of bucks more and maybe add an upcharge option for extra sauce? read more

Our server was so great, and he was cleaning down every table as people came and went. He recommended the Farfalle Aurora to me, and it did not disappoint.
