Incredible Deep Tissue & Fascia Massage Experience I was looking for a deep tissue massage in my area. I'd been traveling to Newport Beach and needed someplace more local. After a phone call with Marshal, I decided he was the guy. Marshall is incredibly skilled, knowledgeable, and intuitive. I wanted to get a deep tissue massage, and he delivered. I had no idea about his focus on fascia release. Marshall explained how this connective tissue is like a wet suit: It covers all the muscles of your body. (Actually, ask him to explain that.) Marshall is a magician. I first came here when my sciatica was acting up and nothing I was doing was making it any better or relieving the pain. As a body piercer I am walking around all day and having to bend over for certain piercings or to open up jewelry cases so when my sciatica started up, it made my work extremely difficult. So let me say that two days prior, I went to the emergency room due to excruciating lower back, sciatica pain. Long story short, I was diagnosed with a pinched nerve and arthritis I this area. Had to use a cane to walk and pain was so intense that morning, that I literally vomited at one point trying yo walk to hall. Flash forward to next day and I put to researching for someone who could help me with my pain. Typing in "sciatica" a few places popped up. After reading multiple reviews for Past Tense, I decided this was the place to try. I called the number and Marshall (owner/therapist) answered. I told him I'd like to come in same day if possible and he gave me an appointment time. Upon arrival, I told him my ailments and he immediately addressed that my left shoulder hung lower. We got to work and I will warn you all that this was a painful experience but a necessary one. He focused on my legs, thighs and peripheral, pelvic area. After less than 10 minutes he asked me to walk around and I noticed a significant improvement in mobility and less pain. He then addressed my glutes which is where most of my pain is and worked the area good. Again, not for the squeamish or those with low pain tolerance but necessary for true relief. When we were done, I had increased mobility and my legs felt like different ones than I had walked in with. I still have pain and didn't expect a miracle in one visit but I was using a cane to walk with the past two days but after treatment, was able yo walk on my own. I booked a follow up the following week and am looking forward to recovering. So glad I found Marshall and if you have sciatica, definitely give him a try. Marshall's massages are great for relieving tense and deep muscle aches/pains. This is definitely not a typical 'spa' like massage. Deep deep tissue kneading that can really test your pain tolerance. But I've always felt so much better, so much more relaxed in the days after a session. Marshall's worked regularly on my carpal tunnel, shoulder and lower back/hip tightness and pain from sitting at work all day. And then tight calves/thighs that I didn't even know were tight. Very effective trigger point massage. If a relaxing massage is what you're looking for, this is not it. The massage itself does not feel good. However, Marshall's massage therapy really helps alleviate tension and areas of pain. I was sore for a couple of days, but I left feeling more balanced and lighter on my feet. I have been going to Marshall for a long time. I had broken my knee cap three years ago and together with the past injury of the left leg, I got a chronic sciatic pain. Marshall is very knowledgeable about muscles and with his deep massage, my pain gradually eased. I am so grateful for Marshall. My health, sleep, and overall quality of life has improved drastically thanks to him. I've been putting off writing a review because I don't want to share him, but he deserves the recognition! I came into my first session with him hoping to relieve my sciatica pain. I got that and so much more. Marshall has extensive knowledge of muscles and the human body. He doesn't massage where you want him to or where it "feels good". He works on muscles that will release your targeted area, sometimes it's not where you expect and sometimes he doesn't need to touch the targeted area at all. After working on my sciatica issues, Marshall wanted to work on my neck & shoulders. I told him it wasn't necessary since I never have discomfort there, but he pointed out that I was so tight in the neck & shoulders that I probably got numbed out. I went along with it. At the end of the session, I stood up, and not only was my sciatica pain gone... My head, neck, and shoulders practically floated away. It's such a strange sensation to feel so comfortable in a way that you've never felt before. On the drive home, I turned my head to scan traffic and scared myself for a moment because I practically did a 180. I apparently didn't have full range of motion in my upper body and Marshall gave it back to me. Since then, I've been going to Marshall religiously. My sciatica pain is gone, I sleep better, feel better, work out better, and generally feel happier and less stressed. After a massage, I feel like I can work out for hours. The one time I had to postpone my massage, I could feel the difference even though there was nothing wrong with me at all, so be warned, you might get spoiled!
